Great Offers

We offer unbelievable prices on tennis balls. And league members get extra savings!

This is how it works

  • Players are organised into groups of up to 8 people of a similar standard
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is

  • For everybody!
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Players are grouped by ability, so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA
  • For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three tie break sets; if a set reaches 6 games all, it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group
  • Players are grouped according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Everyone in the group plays each other once during the round
  • You get one point for each set you win
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls).
  • The winner of each group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winners get a certificate and tennis prizes
  • Where possible, winners of the groups (and sometimes the top two) are promoted for the next round; those who come bottom (and sometimes the bottom two) are demoted

Reveal CommentTimothy Jones bt Andy Shanks (Feb 5) 6-4, 6-2

  • "Given that as well as Andy v. Tim it was often Andy & Tim v. The Elements, there were some really decent rallies throughout the match - and thus no surprise that it lasted almost 2 hours. It's always a pleasure to play Andy, not least because he's incredibly sporting. This was illustrated perfectly when, after a competitive first set, the second set seemed to hinge on a close line call that would have given Andy a break of serve. My instinct was that I'd hit a shot wide, but Andy graciously and generously overruled me, and I went on to hold my serve. Add in an outrageously fortunate net-cord in the last game and I feel very lucky to have come out on top this time." -- Timothy

Reveal CommentOllie Tomlins & Hugh Sultoon bt Ellie Williams & Angus Hortop (Sep 12) 6-0, 6-0

  • "Serena's shock defeat in the US Open only the day before provided a timely reminder to the Shopkeepers that anything can happen in this sport as they opened up the new league against the unknown Williams/Hortop pairing.
The newcomers were warmly welcomed into the league and were very well received by the Kennington faithful.
The Shopkeepers, however, kicked off the new season in style with a double-bagel victory, blowing away any cobwebs that had built up in the late-summer hiatus.
The game was played in good spirit with some intense net exchanges not enough to spoil the mood. Ellie's serve will prove a weapon in this league and Angus showed very good touch in and around the net - particularly for a big man.
Once their communication game is nailed down (and they agree on which loose balls should be moved from the court prior to serving) they will prove a handful for future opponents.
The Shopkeepers meanwhile march on, refusing to let their spirits be dampened by narrowly missing out on the league title last Group." -- Ollie

Match of the Group:

Reveal CommentTim Porte & Bill Greeno bt Fraser Littlejohn & James O'sullivan (Oct 21) 6-3, 6-4

  • "A competitive match against great opponents with some very closely fought games and good rallies. After a tight start we pulled away and took the first set 6-3 and started the second set strongly reaching 3-0 but then James and Fraser fought back to 3 all before we eventually served out for 6-4 and a straight sets win." -- Tim

  • "Great match against charming opponents, the score doesn't do justice to the closeness of the games and quality of the rallies." -- Tim
