“Enjoyed the round this time in particular,” says Greg Brown of group 3. “We were mostly around the same level and organising a game was not too difficult.”  One or two groups were hampered by holidays, illness or injury, but 38 matches were played (63% of the total possible) and 41% of you got your bonus balls, which is great.  Many thanks for playing and as always for all your hard work arranging matches. There has been some great tennis and there are some new stars emerging!

But without further ado, our winners are . . .

Alex made his league debut this round, and very impressive it was too. His toughest match was his first, against Birger, back in August, which he won  7-5, 6-1.  Two more wins and his bonus points were enough to win him the group. Well played, Alex!

Chris, who also played in our sister league in Gladstone Park, in north London, is definitely one of the rising starts we mentioned. He has not been playing tennis long, but has clearly taken to it like a pro. In a great run in a keenly fought, he didn’t drop a set in four matches. Commiserations to runner up, Tim, who was only two points behind and gave Chris a good match, especially in the second set. Mention should also be made of Matt, who might have finished higher with a few more matches and bonus points. But this time is it Chris’s group. Well done!

On the last day of this round, Greg played two matches. He lost to Elinor, in three sets but won against Susan.  6-3, 6-2. “A lot closer than it appears, Susan knows how to hammer the ball!” says Greg.  It was a good match to win, as it means he ties for second place, with Mark. But it was Matt Moody who was the man to beat this round. He stormed through five matches without dropping a set. Memo to self: we must make it harder for Matt in future. But that shouldn’t take away from a great performance. A very worthy winner 

Lito, who is also doing well in another of our sister leagues in Clapham Common, stamped his mark on this group, winning four matches easily, and grabbing his bonus points. His only loss was to runner up Patrick, who would surely have got more points if he had played more matches. But this time it is Lito we salute for a great round.
