This is how it works

  • Players are organised into groups of up to 8 people of a similar standard
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is

  • For everybody!
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Players are grouped by ability, so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA
  • For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three tie break sets; if a set reaches 6 games all, it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group
  • Players are grouped according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Everyone in the group plays each other once during the round
  • You get one point for each set you win
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls).
  • The winner of each group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winners get a certificate and tennis prizes
  • Where possible, winners of the groups (and sometimes the top two) are promoted for the next round; those who come bottom (and sometimes the bottom two) are demoted

Reveal CommentXabier del Arco bt Simon Gravatt (Jun 23) 2-6, 7-5, 7-5

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "We soon found out why court 6 at King Georges Park was available at late notice. I coped slightly better than Xabier with the potholes in the first set, but then he found his rhythm before bad light stopped play." -- Simon
  • "As the result shows it was a very close match... I had to run a lot for finally wining him. We had great fun" -- Xabier
Reveal CommentStuart Lawrence bt Giuseppe Osso (Jun 18) 4-6, 6-2, 6-0

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "Giuseppe and I were having a very competitive match at 2-2 in the second set when I managed to get a bit of momentum going. Nice match on a warm summer's evening." -- Stuart
Reveal CommentOmar Cader bt Giuseppe Osso (Jun 15) 6-0, 6-0

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "Don't be fooled by the score, Giuseppe had a major off day and i hardly made an error. Pleased with my shot selection in this match, didn't do anything too rash but tried to stay on the front foot. Look forward to playing again soon, " -- Omar
Reveal CommentNathalie Larsen bt Simon Gravatt (Jun 11) 7-6 (7-4), 7-5

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "The best way to spend a warm summer evening - a good fight!" -- Nathalie
Reveal CommentXabier del Arco bt Stuart Lawrence (Jun 10) 7-5, 7-5

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "Difficult but nice match with Stuart. The court was not the best, a lot of distractions during the match but we could manage to finish playing with a high level tennis" -- Xabier
Reveal CommentOmar Cader bt Simon Gravatt (Jun 8) 6-4, 6-1

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "As ever, a really tough first set against Simon who varies the speed of his shots very well and uses the full length of the court. A few first serves made the difference in the first set, and my momentum carried me through in the second. Cheers Simon" -- Omar
Simon Gravatt bt John Butcher (Jun 7) 6-1, 6-1
Omar Cader bt Nathalie Larsen (Jun 6) provisional walkover
Reveal CommentStuart Lawrence bt Simon Gravatt (May 31) 3-6, 6-4, 6-4

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "It was a real battle in some pretty torrid conditions and a slippery court throughout. I had to find my way back from the brink in the final set having been 4-1 down so was very lucky to win a match that could have gone either way. Thanks Simon." -- Stuart
Reveal CommentOmar Cader bt John Butcher (May 31) 6-1, 6-1

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "Rain and wind affected match that started very well matched, but seemed to drift in my favour as conditions got worse. Movement very tricky on wet courts so rallies were quite short today. Thanks for the game John and for making the trip to my club" -- Omar
Reveal CommentStuart Lawrence bt John Butcher (May 30) 6-3, 6-1

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "Really nice match on a beautiful Saturday morning. It was a real ebb and flow kind of a match in the early part of the first set as we were getting to know each others' game. At 3-3 I then managed to get a bit of momentum going, although the final score line doesn't reflect how good the match was with lots of deuce games. Thanks John" -- Stuart
Reveal CommentOmar Cader bt Xabier del Arco (May 25) 6-3, 6-2

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "Much tougher match than it looks, had to rely on first serve to get me out of trouble on more than a few occasions. Coming to the net didnt work against Xabiers passing shots but managed to grind it out in the fading light. Good win against a quality player. Cheers Xabier" -- Omar
Reveal CommentOmar Cader bt Stuart Lawrence (May 24) 6-1, 6-1

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "Some great rallies on another mild day, perfect for tennis. I edged the shorter points and Stuart won most of the longer ones. Many games went to deuce, and the scoreline flatters me somewhat. Cheers Stuart, look forward to the next one!" -- Omar
Reveal CommentStuart Lawrence bt Nathalie Larsen (May 23) 7-6 (7-3), 6-3

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "It was quite a humid day so the first set really took it out of both of us and the better tennis was definitely played in that first set" -- Stuart

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "Three set tussle with a rare opportunity to play on grass on a very windy evening at my club. The wind played havoc with many of our shots but it ended up being a good, challenging game. Ben just edged me out in the third and the result was well deserved. Look forward to a rematch in future!" -- Viv
