This was a really competitive round with a high standard of tennis being played. It was a good turnout considering it was the inaugural round, I'm looking forward to getting the next round underway!

Chris Jeppesen

First competitive tennis I'd ever played, really enjoyed it. Had to dig deep in some games and was surprised to come out on top. All the other players were super friendly and I'll probably be meeting some of them for an informal game in the near future. Thanks.

Jamie Barrs

"This league is a fantastic initiative and I'm delighted I've found it and can continue to be part of it. Having lived in other parts of the UK, getting access to tennis like this is not something I've experienced anywhere else across the country, given typically you need to join a club, play doubles and it's all very regimented - and often too it can be expensive which inhibits access for many. I'll continue to play for hopefully many years to come!",

Jordan Cordner

"Has been 15 years and a total hip replacement since I have taken to the tennis courts so really enjoyed it! Surprised, but happy to come out on top!"

Reveal CommentRaf O'Reilly bt James Robjant (Sep 29) 4-2, 5-3

Player Comments:

  • "Thanks so much James for agreeing to play so early in the morning at short notice, and for giving me a shot at my bonus points. When we started it was pitch black, and only the Court 1 floodlights were on. The court was a tad damp from the night before, but fine. The match was tight and could easily have gone either way. James played aggressively and attacked the net regularly. The second set in particular was very tight and went to a tie-break. I started well, but James came back strongly and had set points at 6-4, and again at 7-6. I hung on for dear life and somehow came through 9-7. A very enjoyable game, with some fantastic points, and in a way the match probably deserved to go to a third set. James, I look forward to our next match."  -- Raf
Reveal CommentRaf O'Reilly bt Rob Honeysett (Sep 22) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Great sunny conditions. The last time Rob and I played, Rob won convincingly, so I was fearing the worst. I think we have both been suffering from a lack of game time recently, but today was very much about Rob's unforced errors and serving inconsistency. Am sure he will be back with his usual devastating kick serve and powerful groundstrokes. "  -- Raf
Reveal CommentJames Robjant bt Rob Honeysett (Sep 19) 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 (8-6)

Player Comments:

  • "A great match with each of us having moments in the game where we played some very good attacking tennis, lots of winners between the both of us, our serves putting both of us under pressure. Some tense defensive rallies towards the end of the tight sets, this match could easily gone either way and a third set tie break had to settle it! Thank you Rob for a really enjoyable game! "  -- James
Reveal CommentPaul Rubinstein bt Raf O'Reilly (Sep 17) 6-4, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Always a tactical battle against Raf and this one was no different. The key against someone who defends as well as Raf is patience, staying focused throughout and attacking the net whenever possible - and after losing many of our previous matches I managed to pull it off this time! But at 4-4 in the first set, and down 0-30 on my serve, I would not have predicted the next 30 or so minutes. But somehow I managed to knock off volley after volley after volley and played some surprisingly solid tennis. Looking forward to playing again Raf, always a huge challenge!"  -- Paul
Reveal CommentPaul Rubinstein bt Rob Honeysett (Sep 15) 6-3, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Another super fun and tough match. Rob is a player with great skills, a very tricky spin serve and good placement so I had to focus throughout. In the first set I somehow managed to play my best tennis in ages and had pretty much no unforced errors and hit winners from both wings. In set 2 it was very tight and both of us held serve all the way until 6-5 (a rarity!) when I somehow managed to finally break Rob's serve. Perfect conditions too: no wind, no glaring sun and a comfortable 19c. Great match, thanks Rob."  -- Paul
Reveal CommentPaul Rubinstein bt James Robjant (Sep 10) 6-4, 7-6 (7-4)

Player Comments:

  • "A really enjoyable match. James plays with great variety - he served&volleyed, played lovely weighted drop shots and chip-and-charged throughout the match. I couldn't get good rhythm on my groundstrokes but played well at key moments. In the second set James was 5-2 up and had half a dozen set point but couldn't convert. The set was decided by a few inches here and there and I was quite lucky to come through. Thanks for a great first match in the group!"  -- Paul
Reveal CommentOliver Cox bt James Robjant (Sep 9) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "The score line doesn't reflect what was a tense match - with James often pushing my serve to deuce and his first serve firing well - but on the day it seemed the big points went my way. Enjoyed our set afterwards, where we both played more freely and tried out some different styles. Great to see you again, James."  -- Oliver
Reveal CommentJames Robjant bt Nick Jarvie (Sep 6) 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4
