"This league is a fantastic initiative and I'm delighted I've found it and can continue to be part of it. Having lived in other parts of the UK, getting access to tennis like this is not something I've experienced anywhere else across the country, given typically you need to join a club, play doubles and it's all very regimented - and often too it can be expensive which inhibits access for many. I'll continue to play for hopefully many years to come!",

Jordan Cordner

"Has been 15 years and a total hip replacement since I have taken to the tennis courts so really enjoyed it! Surprised, but happy to come out on top!"

This was a really competitive round with a high standard of tennis being played. It was a good turnout considering it was the inaugural round, I'm looking forward to getting the next round underway!

Chris Jeppesen

First competitive tennis I'd ever played, really enjoyed it. Had to dig deep in some games and was surprised to come out on top. All the other players were super friendly and I'll probably be meeting some of them for an informal game in the near future. Thanks.

Fortunately, my serve came back in the second which helped and a couple of key points went my way. In the third, we were both tiring, but a couple of big serves at key times helped get me over the line."  -- David

Carsten saved 2 match points at 5-2 down serving to stay in the match and then had 15-40 with me serving at 5-3. I managed to somehow hold it together and get over the line. This was an action replay of the last time we played."  -- Julian

Player Comments:

  • "Played on grass in the expectation that rain would come at anytime. A few specs here and there but the heavens didn't open until 6pm so we had nothing to worry about. David got off to a slow start and the first set went to me fairly quickly. Second set David rallied and blasted through his first two service games without losing a point. Key moment came at 1-2 with me serving, I saved two break points then managed to break to be 3-2 and then stayed consistent and close the match out. We then had time to play a practice set which David won 6-4 playing some really good grass court tennis. "  -- Julian

Player Comments:

  • "This was a tough match played in ridiculously hot conditions. At 2-2 in the first set I had to try and adapt my game given the heat and somehow took the next four games. The second set looked to be going in a very different direction and Rus ran off to a 3-0 lead and was looking good for 4-0. I was really worried, since the sun seemed to have taken all my strength, but somehow I hung in there and took that game to take it to 3-1. I won the next three games too, to take a 4-3 lead. I had a decent chance for 5-3 but blew it and Rus took it to 4-4. From there a few unforced errors from Rus enabled me to get over the line. An enjoyable match played in a good spirit and featuring some great rallies. Thanks Rus."  -- Raf

And after 2 hours of tennis with loads of long, intriguing and varied points I managed to finally get the win. Thanks Raf for a good afternoon in blistering sunshine! "  -- Paul

Reveal CommentMacalister Bexon bt Aihan Muradasil (Jul 4) 7-5, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "What a tough game! Both of us were a bit tired going into it.. but meant a match of contrasting approaches! Aihan was a model of consistency just getting everything back, leaving me to try and kill points - with very mixed results! Managed to break and hold right at the end of both sets for the win. But only just. Great game, cheers! "  -- Macalister

Reveal CommentMacalister Bexon bt Martin Collins (Jul 1) 6-3, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Really enjoyable game. Martin kept me guessing with his tricky slice serve, though he joked he was keeping himself guessing too! Martin was coming back to tennis after a long break, and although the serve was rusty he still crunched a number of cross-court forehands after sending me the wrong way. Good fun, and some great rallies. Cheers. "  -- Macalister
Reveal CommentMacalister Bexon bt Sean Morley (Jun 30) 6-4, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Good game - some great tactical points, moving each other around the court nicely. Tale of two serves in the end though, as is often the case. Different story on another day I reckon! Cheers. "  -- Macalister
Reveal CommentAihan Muradasil bt Sean Morley (Jun 26) 6-4, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Great game. I feel like it wasn't Sean's day particularly in the second set, which has left me wondering how a second match between us would play out if I catch him at his best."  -- Aihan
Reveal CommentMacalister Bexon bt Jasmin Bukic (Jun 25) 6-4, 0-6, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Tough opening match! First set was a real battle with both of us serving well, until a quick flurry of breaks and a tight finish. It clearly took it out of me as Jasmin steamrollered me in the second! Third was wide open, swapping breaks throughout, I don't think I held serve until the final game! Some great net play too; Jasmin's drop shot - lob combo worked alsmost every time! Great game. Cheers."  -- Macalister
