Player Comments:

  • "Been more than 2 years since last played with Hugh, got off to a good start, Hugh was struggling on the return so maybe that made me play confidently with the rest of my game. Serving for the match at 5-4 and 6-5 Hugh got his first breaks and then got 2-0 up in the tiebreak so felt momentum was changing but then somehow all went against him. Good match played in good spirit."  -- Carsten
Reveal CommentDan Barnes bt Paul Rubinstein (Oct 3) 2-6, 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Really great to play Paul for the first time. Tough match with some good shots from both of us. Pivotal game in 2nd set where Paul was serving to go 3-1 up. I managed to break and then build momentum to win the next 6 games. 3rd set was a bit more tentative from both of us but glad to get over the line in the end. "  -- Dan

Reveal CommentCarsten Hovestadt bt Paul Rubinstein (Sep 28) 6-1, 7-6 (7-3)

Player Comments:

  • "Always a good game with Paul, he definitely got into his game a lot better in the second set and managed to get me quite frustrated with my baseline shots. Maybe unlucky not to get a break of serve, 1 game must have been at least 10 deuces. Thanks for the game, good luck for the other matches."  -- Carsten

Player Comments:

  • "Great to get out in the morning. Some awesome rallies in there. Really enjoyed it."  -- Alastair
Reveal CommentPeter Martinak bt Raf O'Reilly (Sep 24) 6-0, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "I have played Peter once before and struggled to find a weakness. Today was no different. I was maybe less consistent than usual, but whatever, Peter-was excellent, incredibly solid and stepped up the gears when needed. The first set went way too quickly. The second set was a little more competitive and featured some decent rallies and retrievals from us both, though Peter still edged pretty much everything. We played a friendly third set that I won 5-5 (7-5 in the TB I think it was), that was great fun and and featured some great tennis from us both. However, Peter had said he would play more aggressively, so it was never going to be the same as the main match. An education to play Peter. A great guy and brilliant player."  -- Raf
Reveal CommentRaf O'Reilly bt Paul Rubinstein (Sep 22) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Matches against Paul are always really tough. In fact, Paul has won at least the last two matches we have played, and the scoreline here really doesn't tell the full story. I got off to a strong start in both sets, but Paul came back and both sets probably turned on one or two very long and attritional games featuring multiple deuces and some very physical tennis. I probably won this one by being quite consistent throughout, and Paul really went for his shots (inc 2 incredible cc b/h's), perhaps racking up a few errors with shots that on another day, when hitting the sweet spot more, would go in. A game played in lovely weather in a great spirit. I look forward to my next game with Paul, which I am sure will end up being quite different."  -- Raf
