Player Comments:

  • "A relatively warm evening at BLTC for another battle with JP. We both started off well holding our serves and serving well. JP dominated the mid court points with excellent ground strokes to take the 1st set. I managed to re-calibrate my groundstrokes to take the edge on some excellent rallies (another deuce game lasting as long as a set!). The last set saw some consistent, strong serving from us both with more close fought out games. As always, another great game that I really enjoyed. Thanks JP"  -- Paul

Player Comments:

  • "This was our first match together. It was a bit slippery and blustery at times on court which led to some interesting points. Overall, we had some good rallies and close games. Great to meet you Josh. Look forward to playing again."  -- Paul

Player Comments:

  • "Paul and I had a cracking thrash-out several weeks ago and we were right to expect more of the same. I'd played my best level of tennis 24hrs earlier and started out here hitting well again, driving close to lines and volleying like I couldn't miss. Paul was super gracious to acknowledge this as we finished set one. Set two followed suit with few errors and a scoreline unfairly and unjustly one-sided. Paul saved multiple match points at 5-0 before the match was closed to 2. I'm not a huge fan of self-praise but feel on something of a high.... in the last two days I've played a higher level of tennis than I thought I was able and credit the quality of opposition for it (and my wife's new nutritional diet she has me on). Thanks Paul. "  -- Ian

Player Comments:

  • "A real pleasure to meet and play Eze. It's not too often that two lefties go at it - and go at it we did with great exchanges and some absolute top-draw points. Everything had to come together to have any chance against such a cultured player, and tonight was my lucky night. Errors were minimal, first serves went in, the ball seemed attracted to the baseline, volleys found targets and when I needed something extra, the netcord was on my side. The court surface at BLTC play differently to hard courts; Eze was far too kind to reference that but I'm sure it contributed this evening, that- and lady luck and all her friends being on my side! Really look forward to meeting up and playing again Eze"  -- Ian
Reveal CommentJoshua Zwetsloot bt John Harrison (Nov 17) 6-3, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Great game against John as always! I was able to take the first set without too much trouble with some cunning angles. Thought it was going to be plain sailing at 5-1 in the 2nd. However, John fought back really well and really tightened up his game to level it at 5-5. Thought it was going to a 3rd at one point but managed to grind out the win. Great match!"  -- Joshua
Reveal CommentJean-Paul Dowding bt John Harrison (Nov 15) 6-4, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Always look forward to matches with John as they are usually closely fought with great rallies. This evening proved no exception. Under the flood-lights, clear skies and still air, the condensation of our breath hung around us, but there was no fog in our minds when playing - not many unforced errors throughout, a good number of winners, some great lobs (and some less great...), passing shots, pick-ups and net play. It had everything! Only one break in each set, in the first at 3-3 and in the second at 4-4. Great fun!! Thanks John, fun as always looking forward to the next one!"  -- Jean-Paul
Reveal CommentIan Holoweckyj bt Joshua Zwetsloot (Nov 10) 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Pleasure meeting and playing Josh for the first time. The first set took time to settle and at 5-0 Josh got a deserved game on the board, but the second set saw Josh relaxing, serving well and going for his shots and hitting some lovely balls, we had a fair few deuces and fun rallies. Wish you well in your remaining matches and look forward to another knock."  -- Ian
Reveal CommentPaul Bennett bt John Harrison (Nov 9) 6-4, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "A surprisingly warm evening for the match against John. The match started off going with serve until I managed to get a break & take the 1st set. The second set had some quicker games. There were some good ground strokes with John taking advantage of his great forehand topspin. Overall, another good match. Thanks John. "  -- Paul

Match of the Group:

Reveal CommentIan Holoweckyj bt Jean-Paul Dowding (Nov 8) 6-7 (2-7), 7-5, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "I AM KNACKERED ! Relentless, quality tennis as JP was dialed-in tonight. An early break each went unrepeated as JP served with accuracy and power (all match) rewarded with several aces. First set tie-break; I was 4-1 down, JP chased what looked a winner, somehow getting racket to ball sending it high from behind the baseline landing plum on the netcord - you don't win tie-breaks when your opponent does that! Second set was so hard-fought; great rallies and hitting with little being gifted. JP broke to lead 5-4 and served for the match only to be broken. Seizing the chance I forced a scarcely deserved third set which had a unanswered early break. The battling rallies and shot making remained; its gonna hurt like hell tmrw, what a fab match!"  -- Ian
Reveal CommentIan Holoweckyj bt John Harrison (Nov 7) 7-5, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Our tussles are getting closer, there wasn't much in this as the score suggests. A break to lead 6-5 presented the chance to serve out a competitive first set, then the wind really picked up to add an unwelcome dimension. At 5-2 in the second set, it looked all over but John doesn't give up and almost drew level before the match was closed out. Good play, good rallies and good fun on a Sunday morning!"  -- Ian
Reveal CommentJean-Paul Dowding bt Joshua Zwetsloot (Nov 7) 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "It was the first meeting between Josh and I, but it won't be the last I'm sure. Josh has a great first serve and solid ground strokes. My serve was working better than it has for a good while and I think that made a lot of the difference. The first set was tight. We exchanged breaks of serve and I got one break at 5-4 up. The second set was very different as Josh's first serve seem to desert him and before we knew it I was 5-0 up. At that point Josh's serve came back and I tightened up. In a blink it was 5-3 and we had a battle through three or four deuces before I could secure the win. A fun match on a chilly evening. Thanks Josh and all the best with your other matches!!"  -- Jean-Paul

Player Comments:

  • "Great to meet and play Peter. This game turned into a bit of an epic 2 hour, 3 set battle, on a lovely day to be outside playing tennis. The first set, set the scene with lots if tight deuce games and lots of good tennis. Both of us were hampered slightly by the low winter sun. Peter took the second set with lots of great passing and lob shots. In the third set, Peter raced into a two game lead but I managed to comeback to take the set, which again had some really long, hard fought deuce games. I’m not going to lie, I’m going to feel this in my legs tomorrow. Good luck Peter in the rest of your games and I look forward to playing you again in the future. Special thanks to Ben Friman for letting me borrow the broom to sweep the court"  -- Michael
