Player Comments:

  • "Two very close and enjoyable sets played in Pavenham, which I just seem to edge."  -- John
Reveal CommentJean-Paul Dowding bt Martin Copland (Oct 16) 6-2, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "We played under the floodlights at BLTC on a damp Sunday evening. The first set went quite quickly. The second set started with two breaks of serve and Martin was attacking my serve a lot more, immediately putting me under pressure. Martin could, and possibly should, have gone 3-1 up but missed a line by a whisker; in a great show of sportsmanship Martin called it out, something I very much appreciated for the principle. The pressure game for me came at 3-4, knowing I needed to keep the score level. I changed how and where I was serving to stop giving Martin a free swing at it. A really fun match, played in great spirit and good humour. Thanks Martin, maybe we see eachother in the next round."  -- Jean-Paul

Player Comments:

  • "We played on a beautiful sunny morning at Riverside Tennis Club. John had a slow start but was getting better as the first set went on. The second set is where John started finding his game, hitting some great angles and hitting more confidently into the open space. A really fun match. Thanks John, looking forward to the next one!"  -- Jean-Paul

  • "Great tussle with JP and not much in this one as we both struck the ball well and and won our fair share of points, throughout a really enjoyable game of tennis on a perfect evening. A couple of service breaks made the difference...."  -- Ian

Player Comments:

  • "A nice evening at BLTC for the match. The 1st set started off very even with a good number of decent rallies & tight games. The 2nd set, the balance moved a little, but still with some good rallies & hard fought out points. Thanks JP. "  -- Paul

Player Comments:

  • "It was a lovely still evening at Pavenham tennis courts & our 1st match together. We had some good exchanges in the 1st set & the game became more competitive in the 2nd with some decent rallies. Thank you Martin. Enjoyed the game. "  -- Paul
Reveal CommentJean-Paul Dowding bt Peter Boyse (Oct 2) 6-4, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "A dry and sunny morning in Bedford park. The sun was low over the trees and quite troublesome for both of us. Peter took a early 2-0 lead as a result of my terrible first service game and playing lots of short angles. Throughout the first set in particular there were a good number of deuce games and some really nice rallies. Peter was playing smart throughout and keeping me on my toes. Not sure what happened in the second set, Peter seemed to fade a bit and maybe I upped my intensity a bit. Still, some nice points were played. Thanks Peter! It was a good run about on a sunny morning."  -- Jean-Paul

Reveal CommentJohn Harrison bt John Finn (Sep 25) 6-2, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Played on a pleasantly sunny Sunday afternoon in October, with near perfect conditions for tennis. We had a number of long games, but I managed to take the game with more consistency. In addition, we had to take an interlude to recover a racket from the top of the hedge after an over extra exuberant shot in the second set. Good luck John in the rest of your games!"  -- John

Player Comments:

  • "Always have a good tussle with Paul and today was no different. Blustery conditions disrupted play on occasion, as did Paul's sliced back hand shots which cut through the turf and stayed super low! Good game, look forward to more mate"  -- Ian

Player Comments:

  • "Sometimes it looks like we know what we're doing said John after a good long rally. Sometimes it did, with some really good rallies and close games. The first set was tight. My 2-0 lead soon became 3-3 and then John was 5-4 with set points. I really don't know how I clawed that game back. The tie-break was also topsy-turvy. John was 4-1 up and then the momentum swung. The second set was not as close. John's serve seemed seemed to desert him, but there were still some really nice points played. A fun match, as ever, John! Thanks."  -- Jean-Paul

Reveal CommentIan Holoweckyj bt John Harrison (Aug 31) 6-4, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Of all the beautiful days in August, we play on the most blustery! It did influence points, reduce the rallies and provide the odd comedy ball toss whilst serving. A break of serve mid way through the first set was enough to be the difference, the second set I guess I controlled the ball a bit better. Thanks John, pleasure as always - we'll do it all again soon"  -- Ian
