Collapse AllBexley Parks Singles - Round 28 | Thursday 27 June 2019 to Wednesday 21 August 2019 (Midpoint: Wednesday 24 July 2019)
Over 70% of matches were played this round so thank you for braving what were sometimes hot and sticky conditions to get so many matches set up and played. Nice to have several players returning to the league after a break and to welcome a couple of new faces. We do hope you will all want to play again next time.
Group Summary:
Well done to Lateef for his first Bexley Parks group win, and it's a group one win to boot! This was a confident display of tennis and all of the matches were won in straight sets. The battle for the runner's up position was a lot tighter with at least four players in contention, but Richard was able to gain the advantage. All but five matches were played in the round and everyone earned their bonus points except Sam - not that it stopped him clinching the bronze!

- "Enjoyed our game played under a searingly hot sun in temperatures over 30 degrees, we must have been mad! In a very even first set I was trying to keep the points short but Sam wouldn't let me. Eventually, I got over the line through being more consistent. Got away to an early lead in the second set and managed to see it out. " -- Patrick
Player Comments:
- "A game played over two days, the first set was very tight. From the second set onwards games were won in bursts, I went 5-1 down in the second set before pegging it back to 5-5. In the third set, from 3-0 I managed to win 6 successive games to win. Many thanks Sam," -- Richard
Player Comments:
- "A match not to be remembered for first serve accuracy however a good game played over an hour and a half. Some good rallies were had and several deuce games also. The 8th game of the first set at 4-3 was the turning point, having won the game I managed to close to match out." -- Richard
Player Comments:
- "Good game of tennis on a very sunny and humid day. When the rain came down in the morning I though our game in the evening might be postponed but the the sun was out by afternoon. We started our game at 17:30 and by then the temperature had got to around 24degrees. It was really hot we both felt it during the game. I thought Patrick brought the best out of me and I did for him too. We had many deuce games and I was lucky to come out with more wins. Game lasted for about a couple of hours even with the score line. I really enjoyed the game as there was lots of rally’s and running. Thanks Patrick" -- Lateef

Player Comments:
- "A great match which got better the longer it went on. Our second set had some excellent rallies towards the end and our shots and consistency improved. A lovely summers evening topped off with a great chat at the end." -- Sam
Player Comments:
- "Good game with Nasco. The scores does not say all about the game though as there were about 5 deuce games where the result could have gone either way but I was lucky they all went my way. " -- Lateef
Player Comments:
- "Enjoyed my match with Atanas and it was a closer game than the score suggests." -- Patrick
Player Comments:
- "An epic tussle with some shocking tennis mainly pattacake from Sam and the odd error from Paul. Paul stormed ahead in first set and Sam pegged back with some hack tennis. Second set followed a similar theme with Paul taking the initiative and Sam dragging himself back into the match. Should be mentioned that Paul very kindly lent Sam a tennis racket for the majority of the match after Sam’s strings snapped early on in the first set. Doubt anyone will read this, but on a hot and blustery day it was a good battle." -- Sam
Group Summary:
A great tussle between Jordan and Henry for the top spot with their own match pivotal. We don't have a commentary for that encounter, but Jordan was able to take it to a third set. That effort ensured that Jordan earned the silver, but by regrouping and winning the third set, Henry sealed the deal on the group win. Well done to both and to Jason who match Jordan for wins and takes third place.
