Matt was once again on formidable form, finishing on fourteen points with six wins and bonus points for the second round in a row to add yet another title to his name - can anyone stop Matt's winning streak next time? Runner up Albert kept Matt in his sights with five victories of his own and put up a good challenge in their head to head to be only narrowly beaten 7-5 7-5. Kudos to Olivier for showing great commitment, alongside Albert, in getting all seven of his matches played.

Group Summary:

Nearly every match played in a competitive group two - round of applause to you all for your efforts on the court. Richie rises to the top of the standings with six impressive wins and bonus points to boot. Jernej and Pawel kept the pressure on Richie throughout the round, notching up five victories each to put themselves in the mix. In the end they are left to fight it out for the silver, and the set Jernej won in their head to head in part thanks to a "passing shot between the legs" saw Jernej overtake Pawel into second.

This was a closely contested group with too many three set thrillers to mention - well played everyone. David and Ellis move clear of the chasing pack with six wins and bonus points to their names and tie at the top on an impressive fourteen points. However only one player can top the podium, and this honour goes to David thanks to his hard fought victory over Ellis in their head to head. Special mention to Kai and Tom who alongside Ellis got on the court to play all their matches.

  • "Just as both our Round 25 campaigns seemed to over, Katy and I managed to squeeze in a final after-work match and what an encounter it turned out to be. Katy has a good repertoire of strokes which had me scurrying around the court during this exhausting encounter. Conditions were tricky at the Bec Rec with gusts seeing many an innocuously struck ball float over the baseline. At 5-1 up, I seemed to be home and dry only to get reeled in. However, I closed out the set and was determined to keep up the pressure but Katy was having none of it and motored to a 5-2 lead. William played all his matches and earned his bonus points to leave nothing to chance, and this positive attitude paid off as he climbed to the top of the table with five wins under his belt to take a second title on the bounce. Runner up Marc prevailed from his match with William and finished the round unbeaten, so what might have happened if he had played a couple more matches? Maybe we will find out next time.

I then broke and held serve to take the first set. She raced to a 5-2 lead in the second set which I hauled back to 5-4 but could not hold my serve so she took that set. With our 2 hour booking running out, we played a tie-break which saw Lucy go 5-2 up. We got to 9-8 to me on my serve which was the perfect time for Lucy to step in and hammer a service return past me: 9-9, change ends again and then I ground out the next two points. Time now for a good sit down. Thanks Lucy for a really enjoyable game."  -- Stephen

Player Comments:

  • "The windy conditions made for tough playing conditions and we both struggled to win two points in a row at any point resulting in ridiculous deuce games which seemed to go on for an eternity! I guess if you play with windy conditions all the time you'd eventually get used to it. I haven't got the foggiest how to play tennis when it's like this. In the end I think I only won because Christine needed to get to Waitrose!! :-)"  -- Andrew

Group Summary:

Val stormed through her three matches, losing only a few games along the way, to put us in no doubt as to who the group winner is - well played Val. Ros clinched an important set in her unfinished match with David, and this added to her victory over Shingi gave her the runner up spot. A shame to see Adam withdraw - hope you're ok.
