Reveal CommentStuart McLeod bt Kevin Birt (Sep 26) 7-5, 7-6 (7-4)

Player Comments:

  • "A close match as usual between myself and Kevin on a warm sunny day down the Heath. First set was decided by errors mainly as neither of us found much of a rhythm, and I managed pinch the set after being 5-4 down. Second set was much better with longer rallies. Kevin raced into a 5-2 lead with good serving and excellent cross court forehands, but couldn't quite get over the line, much to the relief of my weary legs. Thanks for the game"  -- Stuart
Reveal CommentAli Alkamil bt Stuart McLeod (Sep 18) 7-5, 6-4

Reveal CommentKevin Birt bt Dominic Eddy (Sep 12) 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Good spirited game on near perfect conditions early Sunday morning at the Heath. During the warmup I thought there was no shame in losing this one against young Dom. But it started pretty even both winning our serves. Then Dom broke my serve and went 4-2 up. I somehow won the next 4 games to take the first set. The next set went the same way with an odd mix on tentative tennis, unforced errors and some epic winners that would certainly make the highlight reel! Some great lobs from Dom that had me scurrying back n forth today. We both worked hard in this game and it was a close and enjoyable game. Thanks Dom and good luck in your others."  -- Kevin
Reveal CommentOwen Morris bt Stuart McLeod (Sep 4) 7-5, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Perfect weather conditions for a good competitive game. Owen is the ultimate defender, and it feels like you have to win every point three times trying to hit through him. As always a very enjoyable game and as always, Owen wins. Well played"  -- Stuart
  • "Surprise surprise, another tough encounter against, no doubt, one of my most feared opponents in any rounds I have ever played in in my life. After some uncharacteristic ‘not so great’ practice serves, it was no surprise that Stuart elected me to serve. But Stuart served strongly in the 1st set which annoyingly denied me to break him on too many occasions! Stuart led 4-2 and I knew it was going to be another stressful match. After some brutal rallies I was a game away from taking the set at 6-5. Stuart led 40-0 in the 12th game. But, determined to avoid the stress of a tiebreak, I fought hard to break him and win the set 7-5. Many close games in the 2nd set, but a broken heart (not from me for once!) was the factor that led me to victory."

Player Comments:

  • "It would be fair to say my defense-orientated game was not a good match for Spencers natural explosive style of play. Spencers frustrations first became evident around game 4 (or was it game 5, or game 6?) . I can understand Spencer seeing the red mist. The sun was glaring and I'm fully aware my game can frustrate opponents - after all it frustrates the hell out of me most of the time.... To Spencers credit he explored many different styles of play with little reward, as the wall stood firm, but kudos for keeping on battling and never giving up right up to the final point. All the best."  -- Darren
Reveal CommentMatthew Blake bt Jon Tann (Sep 18) 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Lovely day at Heath , I had my work cut out from the start , Jon went 2-0 up in both sets , he gets everything back and excellent at the net, each game went to deuces so it was closer then the score reveals. Good luck in your future games Jon "  -- Matthew
Reveal CommentMatthew Owen bt Ryan O'Neill (Sep 15) 6-4, 6-1

Player Comments:

Player Comments:

  • "Back at the Heath park and I was playing against Matt Owen. Last time we played Matt won 2-1 , he’s a good player and he gets everything back but unfortunately in first set too many mistakes from my opponent and that led me to win the first set 6-0. 2nd set he was back!!! long as rallies as per usual I got to 5-4 up and I had a few good match points but again Matt brought it back 5-5 , luckily I held my serve strong at the end and also good returns to finish 7-5 . Good luck tho mate in your future games , enjoyable game as always. "  -- Matthew

The 2 courts have been recently relaid and are a pleasure to play on, though the nets seem to be a tad on the high side. I took a quick lead in the first set, although Mat found his pace towards the end it wasn't enough to close the gap. Mat went on to win the second set comfortably with some great serves and aggressive forehand. The lead ebbed and flowed between the two of us for the rest of the match; despite Mat breaking my serve early on I won the third set. It was a really enjoyable game, looking forward to playing Mat again."  -- Erwan

He found his rhythm and timing in the second set coming back strongly from 4-1 down with his great topspin forehand which kept me on the baseline. With the light going fast we agreed a 10 point tiebreak for the third which I just managed to hang onto. Great match Philip, kept me on my toes for the second set and the tie break"  -- Tim

I managed to get lucky with a few shots on some close deuce games and come through, but the score definitely didn’t reflect the closeness of some of our points. Catherine also ran for every ball, so I had to ensure my placement was accurate, something made all the more tricky by her brilliant and fast serve. Definitely looking forward to another game with Catherine soon! "  -- Olivia

I got lucky in the second set, and managed to get a bit more of a read on his play to come through it. By the third set tiebreak, we were both definitely feeling tired and it honestly could have gone either way. I felt very lucky to come through it in the end, and was great to have such a close match as well. Definitely looking forward to playing again soon! "  -- Olivia

  • "A really enjoyable match played against Nigel in windy but dry conditions at Heath Park this afternoon. We were pretty evenly matched with lots of great rallies and deuce games. I struggled with Nigel's volleying at the net particularly his ferocious backhand volleying. I gave up trying to compete at the net and had to lob in the end. I served well today and I think that got me through. Thanks Nigel for some great tennis."  -- Tim

In the second set we had a game that lasted about 15 mins which I managed to win and I was very fortunate to get momentum from that for the rest of the match. Player Comments:

  • "Really good game against two really nice blokes. Unfortunately for our opponents me and Josh were really on form tonight and played some good tennis. 100% this would have been a different score on a different day. Kudos to our opponents for their returns on Joshs serve, definitely the best we've seen and also credit to them as this was their first ever doubles match. Some.great points and great winners today and a good laugh to boot. Good luck in your remaining matches."  -- Kevin
Reveal CommentKevin Birt & Josh Cain bt Myles Wellington & Milan Zimanyi (Sep 19) 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Definitely the toughest match so far. M&M were both very very good players. We had long games with endless deuces and big hits. It mainly came down to unforced errors today. But considering this is the first time M&M had ever met and therefore ever played doubles together they gave us hell of a game. They both demonstrated how good they are as singles players and I suspect as they play more games they will get even better and more intuitive. Perfect conditions today but none of us were on top form but there were some great points and great winners from everyone today. Thanks for the game and good luck in the rest. "  -- Kevin

  • "Good spirited game against two really nice blokes. Some great rallies. It felt like these two were just getting going when we finished, glad we were one of their early games as I’ve got a feeling they are going to get better and better."  -- Kevin
Reveal CommentKevin Birt & Josh Cain bt Anne Hamilton & Deborah Wilson (Sep 10) 6-3, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Genuinely a closer game than the score suggests. Anne & Deborah went 2-0 up in the first and we quicky realised that tactically they were better than us and we had to make some adjustments, which thankfully worked. This was a tough game against two good all round players and we really learnt a lot from it and how they played their doubles strategy. Great net play from our opponents and some great rallies and winning shots from sides. Really nice friendly and enjoyable game. Thanks to you both and good luck in your other games."  -- Kevin
