Player Comments:

  • "Great to get the chance to meet and play Andy tonight as he kindly offered to play at DL Southend, despite not having played on carpet in a long time he came out fast breaking me in the first game with some aggressive shots that took me by surprise…I obviously had to focus quickly and managed to break straight back and after holding for 2-1 I dug in to break Andy again, gradually pulling my way clear to eventually take the set 6-2….I got off to a better start second set and although Andy often hit some cracking winners his overall consistency let him down on the night and I was able to see out the set and the match comfortably in the end. Thanks for the game Andy and I’ll definitely make the trip your way next time."  -- Ian

Player Comments:

  • "Lovely to play my match with Shihab today at DL Gidea Park. Shihab is always a tricky opponent but I got off to an absolute flyer in the first set. The second set Shihab dug in and managed to break me for a well deserved game. I’ve been working hard on my tennis, so it was nice to get the job done and hit plenty of shots I’ve been working on in training. Well played Shihab, hope to see you soon. "  -- Lee

Player Comments:

  • "Great match with Tom in some glorious sunshine earlier today. I managed to get a really strong start with a 5-0 lead probably down to some home advantage and some strong serving, at which point Tom started playing some good tactics that was forcing me to make some errors, and he also started to find his first service more regularly which is really effective. This pulled the first set back to 5-4 but I hung on and was able to close it out. Second set was really tight, with us both having games when we were finding good serves and closing points out easily, put lots of back and forwards in the games. There were multiple match points before I managed to just get it over the line. Great to meet Tom and thanks for a really enjoyable match. "  -- Andy

Player Comments:

  • "We originally started the match at Great Baddow last Saturday but apart from break points that I couldn’t convert in the first game things went with serve until 4-4 when I finally got the break but Fungai managed to save a set point when I served at 5-4 before breaking back, he then had his own set point when I was serving at 5-6 but I also managed to escape before running away with the tiebreak 7-1. Todays set at DL was equally tight mainly because our returning games made holding serve so much more difficult which meant there were breaks aplenty, I just managed to hold and break at the crucial time to nick the set and the match. Fungai is a top guy tho and the quality of his tennis is consistently high. Thanks for the game mate."  -- Ian
Reveal CommentLee Healey bt Vishal Davda (Oct 5) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Lovely to meet Vishal for the first time and to play our match at David Lloyd Gidea Park. It was a good match, with both players giving it their best. Carpet is always a tricky surface if you haven’t played on it too much so I definitely gained a bit of home advantage. Vishal hit some amazing serves all night to put the pressure on, but I was really solid all night too. I was pretty accurate and landing the ball deep and that definitely helped me keep winning games. Plenty of dueces and good points, Vishal was trying super hard to get a game and I was trying to stop that happening! Thanks for the game Vishal, hope to play again."  -- Lee

  • "Hell of a battle with Lee today at David Lloyd in Basildon. I’m not used to playing on the carpet so was worried about this match and Lee came flying out the blocks to take a 4-1 lead. I somehow then strung a few games together to steal the first set though. The second set started exactly the same with Lee playing some great tennis and me making a horrible amount of errors so Lee deservedly took the set. Third set I went 5-2 up but just couldn’t put Lee away and he came back to five all. At this point every game was brutal with countless deuces and long rallies with both of us defending well. It could’ve gone either way but I eventually fell over the line. Great battle though mate and I look forward to the next one! "  -- Robin

  • "Great match with Andy at Billericay LTC this evening on the clay in the bubble. I scrapped my way to a win somehow, with some decent serving and lots of hustled defensive points. Andy definitely hit the majority of the better shots in the match but somehow I just managed to edge ahead at crucial moments. All played in the best of spirits. Great to meet you Andy, hopefully see you again soon. "  -- Lee

  • "Great to meet and play Andy tonight at Brentwood. After a delayed start we were both a bit cold but luckily I managed to get a quick start in both sets. Andy had me on the ropes at the end of the second but I managed to find some big serves to claw myself out of trouble and avoid an unwanted third set! Some great rallies and lots of deuce games but pleased with the way I adapted to the artificial surface this time. Thanks for the game, Andy "  -- Robin

Player Comments:

  • "Just another of those matches that the scoreline is not a true reflection of match intensity. It’s remarkable knowing that Lee has only being playing tennis for 15 months. He has definitely great strokes, notably is a huge top-spin forehand and a great flat first serve. Luckily, I got him a little frustrated with slice returns and I was a bit stronger on my service games. Conversion of important points made the difference but we had a couple of great rallies to reminisce. Altogether, a great guy to play with and socialise too. "  -- Fungai

Player Comments:

  • "Great to meet Vishal for the first time today. I was fortunately able to find my rhythm quite quickly and take control of the first set and then to keep it going into the second. Vishal has some good strokes and a strong first serve when it lands but as he has recently recovered from an injury, I think my increased time on court enabled me to just be a bit more consistent this time around."  -- Andy

Player Comments:

  • "Where to start with this match! Firstly it’s always a pleasure to play Tom. He’s a super honest sportsman and it’s always a game played in the best of spirits. I somehow ground out a win tonight but Tom played brilliantly. He was super aggressive from the get-go. The first set was close but I just managed to put together a decent couple of games to nick it. Tom totally dominated the second set, dishing me out a most unwelcome bagel to send it to a decider. Thankfully I got my act together to take the deciding set and the match but it was still close right the way to the end. Well played Tom, see you soon for the next battle ?"  -- Lee

Player Comments:

  • "Good to meet Lee but after making the trip to DL Gidea Park Monday night courts were so busy it meant we were unable to finish! Lee came out like a steam train and i was definitely taken aback, i had plenty of break points but Lee's style was frustrating me initially and any lead i had seemed to slip away so it wasn't a surprise when he took it 6-2...i knuckled down second set tho, turning the tables on Lee to go 5-0 up with much more patient play from me and even tho he broke to make it 5-1 i was able to break straight back to take the set, final set was played at Basildon and even after going 3-0 up Lee fought back to 3-3 with some great serving but i managed to stop the rot just in time to take it 6-3. Very enjoyable battle Lee."  -- Ian

Player Comments:

  • "Pleasure to meet Robin this morning and good of him to travel to Baddow, he got off to a bit of a slow start tho as i broke him in the second game but to be fair he was still trying to come to terms with a very different surface as the Baddow astro courts are quick and skiddy, he did break me back to get to 3-4 but i was able to break him again straight away and serve out the set...I felt like Robin was gradually starting to get to grips with the surface tho and several times in the 2nd set he had me at 15-40 on my serve but i was able to find decent serves at the right time to frustrate him and a couple of late breaks got me over the line. Thanks for the game mate and a visit to Colchester beckons for the return on a hard court :)"  -- Ian

  • "Great to meet and play Tom and finally get my first Chelmsford league match played at last...As both Baddow and Hamptons were too busy we had to settle for one of the hard public courts at Admirals Park which neither of us were particularly keen on but luckily the weather conditions weren't too bad with only a very slight bit of wind...My first time on a hard court in quite a while because of a foot injury but fortunately for me Tom wasn't at his best on this surface either and i was able to dig my way out of any deuce games and the odd break point and then take my opportunities on Tom's service games in the first set, second set Tom deservedly managed to break me once but still struggled to hold himself. Many thanks for the game mate."  -- Ian
Reveal CommentTom Guzik bt Mohammed Shihab (Sep 16) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Great to play Shihab again, as we’ve had lots of battles in the past. I knew if I didn’t want to get dragged into another slugfest, then I needed to be aggressive from the start. Was able to keep that intensity throughout and managed to get the win. Good luck for rest of your matches and hopefully again soon!"  -- Tom

  • "Great match against Tom today at the Hamptons. Thankfully the conditions were a lot better than the last time we played so we were both able to go for our shots a bit more and we had some great rallies with Tom defending really well. Enjoyable match and I look forward to the next one "  -- Robin

Player Comments:

  • "Great to see Vishal back in the league after some time away. I was able to be aggressive today and not allow him any time to get his rhythm, which prevented us having one of those long drawn out battles from the past. I’m sure with more matches under his belt then he will be back to it. Good luck for the rest of the round"  -- Tom
