Reveal CommentPaul Elders bt Lu Yin (Aug 2) 6-3, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "A close match with no one manage to establish a hold on match. A great variety of shots throughout the match with some long rallies from the baseline and the occasional drop shot thrown in for good measure. A good job it finished in 2 sets as the rain came in shortly afterwards and if we’d gone to 3 we would have needed scuba gear. A great match, looking forward to another game soon"  -- Paul
Reveal CommentLu Yin bt Nilman Ekanayake (Jul 30) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "We were lucky that avoided the rain and didn't notice the fairly strong wind. It was a very good tennis match, the score doesn't show how close the games were with so many deuces. Thank you Nilman, I see you on the next round. "  -- Lu
Reveal CommentAdam Jenks bt Nilman Ekanayake (Jul 26) 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Second time we had faced each other and a real battle with some very long rallies in warm windy conditions. I started well which is unusual going 3-0 up in the first set before we both settled and held our service games for the remainder of the set. Nilman broke early in the second to take a 2-0 lead, I was lucky to break straight back otherwise it could well have been a different story. Great to see you again Nilman must arrange a knock before you move!"  -- Adam

  • "A sweltering day for a game of tennis. Some quick points were played. Plenty of breaks in the second set. Good game Tim! Hopefully we'll get a game of doubles in at some point soon as well."  -- Nathan
Reveal CommentPaul Elders bt Nilman Ekanayake (Jul 19) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "In one of the most stupid events of the year. We took to the court with the temperature topping 33C. 2 sets with plenty of water breaks and time between games resulted in some good tennis with a surprising amount of running from both players. Some excellent points throughout the match but the heat started to result in some more unforced errors toward the end of the match. Well played Nilman some excellent tennis."  -- Paul
Reveal CommentNathan Tickell bt Nilman Ekanayake (Jul 15) 6-2, 6-2

Consistency in the second set was the deciding factor with Nathan’s forehand just going off the boil. A really enjoyable match with close games and some excellent winners. "  -- Paul

  • "A very close game with Tim, who possess a wicked drop shot which kept winning points throughout the match. A really tough work out with lots of running. Tim’s first serve just went off the boil in the second set or we could have been heading for a second tie break. Great game Tim. Looking forward to a rematch."  -- Paul
Reveal CommentPaul Elders bt Nigel Smith (Jun 21) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "An enjoyable game with Nigel (his first in the league), with the difference being the serving. Once into the points Nigel’s steady play provided a solid base for him to take plenty of points, but just not quite enough to close out the game. Welcome to the league Nigel."  -- Paul

Gianfranco started better and took 2-0, 3-2 and 4-3 leads before a thrilling finish swung the set the other way. The second set wasn't as close as our other 4 sets but it was another great match between us and I look forward to the next one. "  -- Matt

Reveal CommentMatt Clarke bt Victory Akinjomo (Jul 26) 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "A 25-degree thermometer did not stop a great afternoon of tennis between Victory and I. The first game was probably the longest game I've ever played in the league lasting a full 25 minutes on my serve and ended up with me getting broken (brilliant). Victory raced into a 3-1 lead before I came back into the set and nicked it. The second set followed a similar pattern with Victory going 2-1 up before I settled into it and played a better second half of it to take the match. Tennis scores can look so misleading as I was behind for large chunks of the game. Hope you enjoy the rest of your games Victory and we will be more successful retrieving lost balls next time! Reveal CommentJack Lake bt Victory Akinjomo (Jul 23) 6-2, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Brilliant game with Victory at Pittville park. The conditions were fairly windy however this provided a nice breeze in the heat! The game was very close and also included my favourite rally in the league (although I ended up losing the point)... Victory has a great drop shot which caught me off guard on multiple occasions and combines this with top spin finishers. This makes for a very challenging opponent and the score could easily be reversed on another day! Thanks for a great afternoon, look forward to playing again soon!"  -- Jack
Reveal CommentJack Lake bt Jacob Ellis (Jul 21) 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Great game with Jacob on Wednesday. We arrived at the courts in the scorching sun on one of the hottest days of the year. The game started off quick with both of us taking a couple of games. Jacob has a formidable forehand and doesn't hold back on shots which made for an interesting game. The rest of the sets continued to be very intense and I some how managed to take the win although this was very much against the run of play. Thanks for a great game, look forward to playing again soon. "  -- Jack
Reveal CommentVictory Akinjomo bt Jacob Ellis (Jul 14) 6-4, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Dont be fooled by the scoreline. This was a tough but enjoyable game with some really good rallies The match was off to a fast start. So fast in fact that the only thought going through my mind was its OK to lose a match. Happens to the best of us right? But and the set would play on we both got into our stride and somehow found myself wining. The second set began with me breaking a couple of Jake's serves and once again to my amazement some how winning the set. James was by far the better player. I guess I just found what worked today. Best of luck with your next matches even though you certainly don't need it."  -- Victory
Reveal CommentVictory Akinjomo bt Ben Stubbs (Jul 13) 7-5, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Ben's a really good player with fantastic overhead shots. The scoreline really doesn't do the closeness of this game justice. Also whatever record I thought Phil and I broke in terms of deuces, Ben and I certainly broke! The match started with neither of us being able to break the other's serve then neither of us could hold his own. I just managed to get a nose ahead in the first set and by the second set I'd managed to wear Ben down just enough to steal the win. Thanks for a good game mate! Best of luck in your future matches."  -- Victory
Reveal CommentJack Lake bt Mark Twigg (Jul 12) 6-0, 6-4

  • "Had a great evening match with Mark enjoying a good bit of the English weather! The game got off to a quick start with high intensity all round. The second set was very close and Mark stormed ahead with a 3-1 lead. After many deuce games and some lucky shots I managed to take the set although it could have easily been a different result on another day! Mark's a really friendly guy and brilliant sportsmanship throughout. Best of luck for the rest of the games! - Jack"  -- Jack

Ben worked his way into the match and the second set was very close indeed with the score at 3-3 in games and 3 deuces on my serve at one point. Ben is a friendly, good-natured player which makes for an awesome match. Wishing him the very best for the rest of the games and hope to catch up soon. "  -- Matt

By the morning it was clear that how good a night we had would play a part in the match which it did. We got back to the game and with last night's sleep and the blinding sun in our eyes, I some how managed a come back an took the win. Really fun match though with some incredible shots. Jack then played a fantastic second set and deservedly took it to a third. Despite edging the third set, it could have gone either way and was played in fantastic spirit throughout. Let's play another epic soon! "  -- Matt

After a rocky start I managed to get a few lucky drop shots that brought be back in the game and by the 3rd set we were both ready for the match to be over. I'm pretty sure we break some sort of record for the amount of deuces. The score doesn't fully reflect how evenly matched this game was. Best of luck in your other matches Phil! "  -- Victory
