Collapse AllCheltenham Parks Singles - Round 31 | Thursday 16 January 2020 to Wednesday 11 March 2020 (Midpoint: Wednesday 12 February 2020)
Not the busiest round there has ever been in Cheltenham but given the weather, getting 50% of all possible matches played was not too bad. A shame to see a couple of players not get underway at all - do let us know if we can help another time.
Group Summary:
A slightly quiet group and no bonus points here but three good wins for Matt out of three lobs him to the top of the group, despite some horrendous weather. Good matches elsewhere - we like the sound of Alice's winners and serving consistency - and good to see runner up Josh come successfully through some close matches, and losing only to the champ.

- "A great match with Pierre! We both hadn't played a huge amount as of late, and had to work with the blinding sunshine on a frosty Sunday afternoon. It was tightly-contested in the first set, and many games were back and forth at deuce. " -- Alice
Group Summary:
The weather may have got the better of this group which was slightly on the quiet side with no bonus points gained. Tom, intriguingly, had one good match, then stopped! Who knows what might have happened had he carried on. Newcomer Stephen, alas, didn't get going at all (hope you are ok). But Steffan played and won 3 matches, which lobbed him to the top of the group, just one point ahead of runner up Conor who lost only to the champ in a close match. Congrats to both!

Group Summary:
A cheerful group, equipped with the 'psychological umbrellas' required for the tennis-weather-wrecking that can happen at this time of year! Despite that, David played and won four matches to sail to the top of the group, so he can look forward to promotion next time. Newcomer Michael was runner up. Well played both!

Reveal CommentToby Moate bt Cindy Davies (Feb 25) 6-3, 6-2Player Comments:
- "It was a battle - the weather (blustery rain) v Cindy and me... and the weather lost...just. We almost handed in the towel halfway through, but roused our psychological umbrellas to fight back and the cowardly rain retreated. Hurray! The scores don't really do justice to a match filled with breaks of serve and mammoth rallies. I nominate Cindy with the best 'Federer-style' backwards trick shot whose upwards trajectory was only halted when it hit a satellite before hurtling back into court. I look forward to playing you again Cindy when you have more luck with the 'just-out-but would-have-been' winner shots. :)" -- Toby
Player Comments:
- "A competitive and good-natured match which was played in cold, windy conditions. One minute the ball would not reach the net and the next minute it was blown through the back of the court - the joys of winter tennis! A small delay was necessary to allow a rain shower to pass through. Once the sun came back out and the courts had dried, the match continued. A number of games went to deuce with the rub of the green favouring myself on most occasions, which made the match much closer than the scores suggest. A very enjoyable match with good spirit throughout from both players ." -- Michael
Player Comments:
- "Great weather for a game and lovely to meet and play in the sun. Enjoyed the cup of tea afterwards too. Thanks " -- Cindy
