  • "Once again it was a pleasure to play Ian! His form is impressive and there was little between us throughout the match. We had an enjoyable evening outdoors despite the wind picking up over the second hour of the match. See you soon Ian!"  -- Miguel

Player Comments:

  • "Really enjoyable match with Miguel. Having realised in the warm up that it would have been futile to try & compete with Miguel’s very impressive top-spin ground strokes I was fortunate that my approach of slow balls & drop shots did the trick. Miguel also threw in a fair few double faults which helped me win against a far better player. "  -- John

Player Comments:

  • "The match was played on the centre court at Craiglockhart in humid conditions. There were many great rallies from the back of the court throughout. The first set was close, with breaks of serve on both sides and could have been won by either of us. The second set I managed to get a bit of form on serve (and, for probably for the first time ever) managed to land in a brace of about 7 or 8 first serves in close succession. This was the only difference in the second set which otherwise consisted of close rallies. There was a constant prospect of rain, which held off for the hour of the match, and then as we were leaving the court, bucketed down! Thanks for an enjoyable game Alastair!"  -- Alex

Player Comments:

  • "Great to play Sean last night at Craiglockhart, even if the weather was a bit blustery and wet. First set Sean got off to a great start and not sure I won a point in the first couple of games. From then on the match was close throughout - long games on basically all my service games and certainly the first set could have easily gone either way. A really enjoyable match played in a really friendly manner. I look forward to playing Sean again soon."  -- Tom
Reveal CommentSean Anderson bt Arfan Hanif (Jul 27) 6-0, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "The players were delayed in starting as the locals had overrun the courts. This was a closer match than the score suggests. After a 6-0 first set, Arfan tried every trick in the book to get an advantage: 10 minute bathroom breaks, underarm serves, taking his top off and smashing his racket in anger. Some of these tactics worked at the start of set 2 but then the drubbing continued. Thanks Sean for a good game and well done for winning the league! "  -- Arfan

Player Comments:

  • "A really fun game with Alastair on the Craiglockhart centre court. From the warm ups and first couple of games I thought I was in for a hiding, but I managed to hit a bit of form for the middle stretch of the match and managed to make a decent number of winners. Lots of long games and some pretty good quality tennis dotted across the two sets, it was a pleasure to meet Alastair and I look forward to playing again soon. "  -- Tom
Reveal CommentSean Anderson bt Tiffany Pietrek (Jul 23) 6-0, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "It was a warm and stuffy day played indoors at Bathgate sports centre The first set was closer than it seems with a few very long rallies some going over 30 to 40 shots and a few games going to deuce The second set started the same with a few good games and some very good drop shot by Tiffany to win some good points and games This was a very good and enjoyable match and thanks Tiffany for a great game "  -- Sean

  • "Fun match where I managed to get win despite Tiffany’s consistent serving and well placed shots. Such a nice way to spend a sunny evening."  -- Alastair
Reveal CommentArfan Hanif bt Tiffany Pietrek (Jul 13) 6-4, 0-6, [10-8]

Player Comments:

  • "This was a season opener for both players and the venue was the Theatre of Dreams: St Margaret’s Tennis Courts. There were no spectators due to COVID and a lack of marketing and TV coverage from the ATP and WTA Tours. The first set was a cagey affair with Hanif narrowly squeaking a 6-4 win. Pietrek went into beast mode in the second set racing to a 6–0 win. The decisive tie-break became a real battle with both players having to make close calls because Hawk-Eye wasn’t up and running. At six-all in the tie break the sun came out to blind Pietrek and winds turned in Hanif’s favour, allowing him to sneak 2 points for the 8-6 tie break win. Neither player made themselves available for selfies or autographs after the match. "  -- Arfan

Player Comments:

  • "A pleasant evening (with a couple of unwelcome showers) at Craiglockhart was the setting for a nice march with Arfan. First set was relatively close with a lot of my service games in particular going to deuce, and a couple of great cat and mouse drop-shot/lob rallies. Second set as the rain came a bit more steadily I managed to stay a bit more consistent and get the win. Was fun playing, and really nice to meet Arfan, thanks!"  -- Tom

  • "A really nice evening at Craiglockhart (albeit a bit windy again) for a match with Alex. In both sets holding serve seemed harder than breaking thanks to some good returning and hit and miss serving! Lots of games going to deuce and some good rallies in there, it was a really enjoyable hours tennis. Thanks Alex"  -- Tom

  • "What a marathon of a match with Tom this evening. The scene was set, a balmy 22c at 8pm on Centre Court at Craiglockart..we though this would make for an idyllic match but after a couple of games we realised that whoever won, would be the person who dealt with the wind better pretty much! Tom hasn't played for a few years and apart from a few bad first serves, you'd never know. He has an Alcatraz like drop shot that won many points and left me floundering. The contest was really evenly matched and highly enjoyable but the wind was wreaking total havoc at the back of the court and with our respective ball tosses. Wouldn't have it any other way though, the joys of outdoor playing. Thanks for a great match Tom "  -- Alex

  • "On a very hot 26 degree centre court at Craiglockhart it was a very close first set with all if not most games going to deuce both of us winning our service games taking it to a tie breaker which was edged by myself Going into the second set again most games going to deuce again I was lucky enough to get a couple of breaks to take the match Thanks to Alistair for the great match you had some great shots today "  -- Sean

  • "Another warm and humid night indoors Bathgate sports centre First set was very close with most games going to deuce the stand out game was at 5-5 which lasted about 10mins if not longer with multiple deuces and advantages which Alex eventually came through to win he then went on to win the set Second set went on to be just as close as the first with most games going to deuce again I eventually won this set to take it to a tie breaker This was a very competitive and enjoyable game played in good spirits and with some great shots Thanks for the match Alex "  -- Sean

  • "Always fun to play Alex in the Leagues. Settling bit more quickly on the gravelly surface, I managed to edge a couple of close sets. A highlight for me was when at one point an inviting overhead was offered up at the net and Alex showed amazing discipline not to attempt to steamroller it back. Not only avoiding the classic ‘smash into the net shot’ (at which I tend to excel), Alex brought it under complete control, carefully directing the ball into the space for a winner. An object lesson indeed! Thanks for agreeing to play at St Margaret’s Park Alex and for a really enjoyable game!"  -- Alex

  • "Fantastic match on a humid Weds evening at the indoor courts of the Bathgate Sports Centre. Both of us live in Edinburgh but Sean spoke highly of the courts at Bathgate and given it's only 25 minutes away, it was rude not to try! Sean edged out a tight first set with I think just one or two breaks of serve. Second set score line may look impressive but don't be fooled. Most games went to deuce which was great after playing so much Fast 4 tennis. In the Tie Breaker Sean blew me out of the water! A great match with a really friendly opponent in Sean. Thanks for the game and the banter"  -- Alex

  • "Great match with Alastair on a Windy centre court at Craiglockhart. He's recently getting back to tennis but you wouldn't have known. Lots of fun points and occasional aces along with the dreaded Unforced Errors made for an entertaining match! Very tight second set too. Thanks for the match "  -- Alex
