Collapse AllCroydon Singles - Round 1 | Thursday 18 April 2019 to Wednesday 12 June 2019 (Midpoint: Wednesday 15 May 2019)

Congratulations to everyone for playing in the first round of this new league for LTL, welcome to Croydon everyone! Some fantastic and competitive tennis played by everyone, although Group 1 were a bit quicker off the mark with nearly all players getting their bonus points at the halfway point! It was great to read about so many enjoyable tennis matches, many of them even played in good weather, and to see the beginnings of some local rivalries perhaps? We look forward to welcoming you all back for round 2, and hope you tell all your tennis friends and help grow the league!

Group Summary:

Only 5 unplayed matches in a group with 8 players and 6 of them earned their onus points - way to go! Although some players have met before in different leagues it was great to see such a high standard of tennis being played and so many great comments on the matches. It looks like some new rivalries might be forming too. Mark and John had a super-close marathon match ending 7-6, 7-5 to Mark. It doesn't get much closer than that. Rajiv and Dan battled it out over 2 days to complete their 3-setter battling both the weather and each other so well done both for completing it! We look forward to seeing more competitive tennis like this in the next round. Don't forget to sign up!

Match of the Group:

Reveal CommentRajiv Patel bt Dan Lockeretz (Apr 29) 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "This was a long match played over 2 days. Conditions were terrible on the first day (Saturday) with the wind causing havoc. I went ahead in the first set before Dan made a great comeback. I managed to sneak the win in the tie break and the first set was over after an hour. Dan came storming out in the second set and I had very little chance. We got started for the 3rd set but had to stop at 2-1 to Dan because we ran out of time. We picked up again on Monday evening and the set was tight the whole way. Towards the end we were both running on empty after 3 days of tennis matches in a row but somehow I managed to take the win. It was a pleasure to play you Dan!" -- Rajiv
Reveal CommentKibbs Osafo bt Mark Reardon (Apr 29) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Kibbs is a pleasure to play against. A real gentleman. He laid down some good serves and hit the ball well on both wings with a lot of his forehand crosscourt winners just being too good for me to get a racket on. Enjoyable match. "  -- Mark
  • "Extremely good fun. Think we both enjoyed and learned a lot from the match & that's what counts. Tennis is always the winner...for the love of the game!!! - Catch up soon. Kibbs," -- Mark

Reveal CommentRajiv Patel bt Mark Reardon (Apr 28) 7-5, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Good match with a lot of very long games. The first set was tight but I managed to nick the crucial break at the end. The second set was a lot closer than the score suggests - many of the games went to deuce with the last two games having at least 5 deuces. Thanks for the game, Mark. "  -- Rajiv
