There were two group winners from last time in this group, including runner up Hugh, so specially well done to Mathew for scheduling his run so well. With two good wins and a point from a set won in a match lost (to Peter) it was bonus points that helped him leapfrog Hugh and win the gold. Well played! - "A hydrous nimbus swept Woodfield grove Tennis club in Streatham this afternoon & left the tennis courts filled with water as the light began to fade & the floodlight needed to step in for the Local League match to take place. It needs to be said that Joanna & I did a sterling job of clearing the moist away from the tennis court as it was pretty damp, to say the least. The match itself was full of passion & endeavour as Joanna fought fiercely to return my heavy serve. Certainly, there was plenty of fun to be had for those who sought a corner away from the wet to watch the match & I believe they got plenty of entertainment watching it even though the final score doesn't do justice to Joanna's talent. - "Sunday forgot to bring an umbrella to shield itself from the mizzle which moistened the tennis court at Sanderstead Lawn Tennis & Social Club this afternoon. Still, the show had to go on, and it did, as Patrick and I played a local tennis league match which lasted exactly two hours. Albeit, the score was extraordinarily closed - with so much at stake - the match was played in a great atmosphere so much so that the silence had its occasional shout. The first set summoned Paul's and I determinations to contest it and win it, of course; but as often in a contest there always have to be winners and losers and in this occasion, the result went my way.
