Collapse AllDocklands Singles - Round 26 | Thursday 31 May 2018 to Wednesday 25 July 2018 (Midpoint: Wednesday 27 June 2018)
What a brilliant round! 155 matches were played this round, or two thirds of possible matches. Given the heat, that is a great effort - well done.
Group Summary:
Tom had a fantastic round as he remained undefeated on his way to winning Group 1. Congratulations on a brilliant round! Defending champ Phil was narrowly denied winning back to back titles as he finished just one point behind Tom; it was a fantastic round from him as well. Tom and Phil actually had an unfinished match in which Tom won the first set 7-6 It would have been interesting to see the conclusion of this match as Phil would have won the group had he come back from a set down! Well done to everyone in the group for an almost 100% match completion record. With almost 7 matches played apiece, that's some record!

- "It was another long, exhausting match with Alejandro. He was off with a great start winning easily the first set, but lost concertation on the second. It was a bit of roller-coaster final set, when the rallies were much longer as no one wanted to make errors, Alejandro led 3:1, then I managed to turn to 3:5. Unlucky for him in 3 occasions really long rallies end up with me winning after ball hitting the net. Better luck for the next matches!" -- Ivan

Group Summary:
It was extremely close at the top of Group 2 with four players all finishing within a point of each other. It just shows how tennis really is a game of small margins! In the end it was Nick who clinched the title, so many congratulations to him. There was almost nothing separating Ben and Sam as they both finished on exactly the same amount of points, vying for second place. But in what was the last match of the group, Ben just managed to come through their head to head in three sets to take the runner’s up position. Well done to him, and also to Rob who won four matches but just missed out on bonus points. In such a competitive group, every point counts!

Nobody could stop Mark in Group 4 as he won all six matches that he played. He found himself coming back from a break from Local Tennis Leagues and we do wonder what he was doing in his 'off season' to come back with such skill! He's clearly been taking a leaf out of Federer's book! Congratulations on a fantastic come back round. The title came down to his head to head against Volkan in which Mark managed another come back, this time from one set down! A brilliant round for Volkan finishes as runner up in his debut round. We really hope you enjoyed the experience.

Anton found himself facing seven unknown players as this was his first round in Local Tennis Leagues. This didn't deter him though as he went ahead and managed to play and beat every single player as well as earning his bonus points. A perfect score, well done! In second place was John who also had a great round, losing only to the champ. Congratulations to him and to everyone for getting so many matches played and so many bonus points and free balls secured. A great effort.

Nikolai Krasheninnikov bt Oliver Taylor (Jun 10) 6-1, 4-6, 6-2Player Comments:
- "The first game in the first set was extremely tight with deuce/advantage stage lasting close to 10 minutes. Eventually, Anton was able to get two consecutive points and won the game. After that, Anton took command in the game by aggressively coming to the net each time there was a chance. This lead to the fact that the first set ended 6-1. The second set was much more even and games were 3-2 and 4-3 at one point. Nikolai was not able to get in the lead in and the set ended 6-3. Thus, match to Anton 6-1, 6-3." -- Anton
Group Summary:
This group will go down as the one with the epic tiebreaks with a 14-12, 13-11 and 10-8 tiebreak happening in three different matches. Talk about fine margins! But Vadim ran away with this one, winning four matches without dropping a set. Ben pushed him to a first set tie break but Vadim held on to win the match and so take the top spot. Congratulations to him. Timothy is runner up and was also undefeated but played one fewer match than Vadim. We would loved to have seen the top two players face each other - maybe next round!

It was fascinating to read Nazim's comments in his great match against Michael and how he came through despite Michael playig the better tennis. Nazim says he prevailed by consistently getting the ball back, so well done to him. Well done too to the new group champ Sida whose four wins and bonus points lobbed him to the top spot. Nazim is runner up and well done to Huanjia, the only person to beat the champ. Who know what have happened had Huanjia played more matches!

Player Comments:
- "Really tough match against a technically good opponent. When it clicks, Michael's serve is really impressive and he used it to good effect in a number of service games. The conditions were really hot and sunny and we were both quite tired by the end of the two sets. Michael has excellent ground shots and when his attacking game clicked he hit me off the park. I managed to win mainly by getting the ball back consistently in hot conditions. But Michael played the better tennis overall. Well played Michael, look forward to playing you again soon." -- Nazim

Sida Chen bt Nazim Haque (Jun 7) 6-0, 7-6 (7-2)Group Summary:
No bonus points were won by anyone in this group so it all came done to the tennis! Francois played more matches than anyone (5) and won them all to secure himself the top spot, but he was made to work hard for it. Abhay, Deniz and runner up Michael all pushed him to three sets. Well played all. There were some good matches elsewhere, particularly the three setter between Vaishnav and Galin. A pity not to see even more games played and do let us know if we can help another time.

Almost every match was played in this group and almost every match came with a commentary. Many thanks and please give yourselves a pat on the back. It's always good to see old rivalries renewed, and we are impressed with Kenneth & Anke's 8am start. Inge had a "very enjoyable match with newcomer Kate" - welcome Kate! - and Kenneth in particular was in some epic matches. But there has to be an overall winner and it is Tasnim, the only player to be undefeated in the group. Very well done to him and to everyone for making this was a good spirited and enjoyable group.

This took everything one step further - in a fantastically good, fantastically close match - with many games (including nearly every game in the second set) going to deuce. With the third set tied at 3-3 and advantage switching back and forth in the seventh game, the match could so easily have gone either way. n the end, we were on court in the sunshine for 2 1/2 hours - with a brief moment of distraction as an enormous cruise ship appeared behind the nearby buildings as it sailed down the Thames! A great match, played in great, competitive spirit - thank you Inga, good luck for your other matches this summer!" -- Kenneth
