Revision information
Provide an explanation of the changes you are making. This will help other authors understand your motivations.

This is how it works:

  • Players are organised into groups of up to 8 people of a similar standard
  • Contact details are emailed
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is:

  • For everybody!
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Don't worry that you won't be good enough - playing matches is the best way to improve, and we use an online questionnaire to assess people's ability so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three sets; if a set reaches 6 games all it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group
  • Players are placed in groups according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Each player attempts to play each of the other player on their group once during the round
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls).
  • The winner of the group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winner of the group wins a certificate and tennis prizes
  • Where possible, winners of groups are promoted to the group above for the next round.

Getting started

New players will need to complete the player questionnaire before they can join a round. Once you’ve signed up, and for returning players you can join any of the upcoming rounds above.

For everything you need to know before you get started see the FAQs and review the Rules and Regulations, which all players agree to adhere to when playing in the leagues.

Collapse AllBelair & Dulwich Parks Singles - Round 8 | Thursday 16 February 2017 to Wednesday 12 April 2017 (Midpoint: Wednesday 15 March 2017)

Thanks to everyone for all their efforts in getting over 80% of matches played in this round, we hope you enjoyed yourselves. There was some fantastic competition throughout the groups with places won and lost by the smallest of margins. We look forward to seeing you back next time for more tennis in the summer months!

Group Summary:

Fantastic dedication from group one as all but one match was played and nearly everyone earned their bonus points. The table shows some close competition for places and none more so than at the top where frontrunners Joe and Gavin tied on twelve points apiece. Gavin couldn't have done much more in his quest for the title but just misses out as Joe gets the better of him in their head to head to add another group one crown to his name.

Reveal CommentGavin Kerr bt Carlo Ninchi (Mar 25) 7-5, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "A very tight first set with many of the games close and some good competitive tennis. Gavin got an early break but Carlo broke back mid-way through the set and at 5-5 it could of gone either way but Gavin finally edged it with a break and a hold. Gavin took that momentum into the second set, racing into a 5-0 lead and making very few mistakes. Carlo broke back with Gavin serving for the match and then held to get it back to 5-2 but Gavin managed to hold at the second attempt to win the match."  -- Gavin

Player Comments:

  • "Very good game and really enjoyable rallies."  -- Carlo
Reveal CommentGavin Kerr bt Ian Hirst (Mar 15) 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "The first three games went against serve with Gavin then holding in game 4 and going on to win the set, although, most games went to deuce so the set was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests. In set two Ian got off to a great start by breaking in game one and then went on to have a 2-4 lead. The key game in this set was game seven with Gavin saving a couple of break points to stop Ian going into a 2-5 lead and serving to level the match. Gavin managed to hold and went on to win the next three games to win the match. Again a lot of the games in this set were very close."  -- Gavin
Paul Spence bt Rob Lye (Mar 12) 6-2, 6-4
Reveal CommentGavin Kerr bt Christopher Taylor (Mar 12) 6-3, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "A close first set with both players struggling to hold serve in the early games, then Gavin broke at 4-3 to make it 5-3 and managed to hold serve to see out the set. Gavin then raced into a 5-0 lead before being broken when serving for the match. Then Chris nearly held serve to keep the comeback on but double faulted at 30-30 and then hit a forehand wide to give Gavin the match."  -- Gavin

Reveal CommentGavin Kerr bt Rob Lye (Feb 19) 6-4, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "A good start took Rob into a 1-3 lead but Gavin managed to claw it back to 3-3. The key games in this set were games 6 & 7, in game 6 Rob had three break points at 0-40 but Gavin managed to save the break points and go on to win the game after five deuces and then in game 7 Rob was up 40-0 but a couple of errors brought Gavin back into the game and he managed to break to make it 4-3. Rob then broke back to make it 4-4 but then another brake and a hold for Gavin took the set. Rob won the first game of the second set before Gavin then raced into a 5-1 lead. Rob then really started going for his shots and held to make it 5-2 and threatened Gavin's serve to make a comeback but a couple of errors gave the game, set and match to Gavin."  -- Gavin
Joe Reeve bt Paul Spence (Feb 19) 7-5, 6-3

Group Summary:

Competition was high in this group with three setters and close games across the board. Only one point separated position one to three, and on any other occasion German must have thought his five wins were enough to take home the prize. However Jeff had other ideas, and despite being pipped to the post in the two's head to head his determined performances alongside excellent scheduling skills gave him the additional points he needed to take pole position. German secures second ahead of Ragnar thanks to a very tight victory in their head to head.

Player Comments:

  • "Tuesday night clay court tennis part 2. Chris won part 1 in the last round in icy conditions. This time it was wet and windy and started off in the same vein with neither managing to win our service games. This changed as the rallies got longer and games got closer but I edged the first set. I rushed into a lead in the second set but Chris started to pull me back covering the court like an Olympic sprinter. I managed to just get over the line but another great match and I look forward to the next one hopefully in warmer conditions."  -- Mark

Player Comments:

  • "As always, an extremely close, competitive but good-natured match. The match ebbed and flowed all the way through, like the weather, with lots of long tiring rallies and deuce games. This is a long old rivalry and the final set could have gone either way, until Ragnar broke a string and had to change racquets. Taking advantage of his misfortune, I brought it home. Looking forward the next match already."  -- Mark

Player Comments:

  • "On a bright suny day, probably hottest so far this year, this was a great match. 4-0 being a common theme throughout. I raced to 4-0 lead in first set then Charlie clawed it back, to be honest either of us could have one first set, but we ended up with a tie breaker that I got to 4-0 before Charlie won a few points before I closed out the tiebreak. Then Charlie found inspiration and raced to a 4-0 lead in second set. I then started a comeback, there were some really long rallies, I could feel the lactic acid building up in my legs. I got back to 4-4 then got to a 5-4 lead was serving for the match, however the tension creeped in and Charlie broke my serve, I immediately broke back and then held by nerve to win the match."  -- Ben
