Vertical Tabs

This is how it works:

  • Players are organised into groups of up to 8 people of a similar standard
  • Contact details are emailed
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is:

  • For everybody!
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Don't worry that you won't be good enough - playing matches is the best way to improve, and we use an online questionnaire to assess people's ability so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three sets; if a set reaches 6 games all it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group
  • Players are placed in groups according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Each player attempts to play each of the other player on their group once during the round
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls).
  • The winner of the group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winner of the group wins a certificate and tennis prizes
  • Where possible, winners of groups are promoted to the group above for the next round.

Getting started

New players will need to complete the player questionnaire before they can join a round. Once you’ve signed up, and for returning players you can join any of the upcoming rounds above.

For everything you need to know before you get started see the FAQs and review the Rules and Regulations, which all players agree to adhere to when playing in the leagues.

If there is anything else you need help with get in contact with Nigel, Sally and the team who will be happy to help!

"From taking up tennis, at one of the Local Tennis Leagues, namely Belair & Dulwich League, I have met all the benefits of being fit and stress-free with a top-tier ace! I thank Sally, Nigel & all the participants for making that possible!"

Pedro Figueroa

"Thanks very much for all the hard work making the local leagues happen, it ran so smoothly and I really enjoyed the games and meeting all the other players - thanks so much for facilitating this. Looking forward to the next round,"

Francis Horovitch

"I have found the matches very enjoyable so far. Just wish I was taller and younger but beginning singles matches at 60 not being as daunting as I thought and is definitely having a positive impact on my doubles play! I appreciate the work behind the scenes to make it all happen,"

Reveal CommentPaul Rubinstein bt Joseph Bell (Jun 20) 6-3, 7-6 (7-2)

Player Comments:

  • "I have played Joe quite a few times in the leagues and we always have great matches, but this was a pretty scrappy affair. Having said that, I started really well (highly unusual) and raced ahead to 4-0 in the first set. After that it was pretty even throughout but the match didn't have much rhythm as we both struggled with our serving, and longer rallies were far and few between. Joe is an incredible player when he is on form and I better watch out once he gets used to his new racket. "  -- Paul
Reveal CommentGeorge Williams bt James Lindop (Jun 16) 6-2, 7-6 (7-2)

Player Comments:

  • "Set 1 George secured an early lead taking it to 3-0 then 5-1. James took it to 5-2 but George held serve again to finish the set. Set 2 was a different story. James kicked himself into gear and George let more unforced errors into his game. James shot into a 0-4 lead and at 1-5 the set was still very much in James’ favour but George settled back into rhythm, stayed mentally strong and equalled the score. At 5-5 it was back on serve and after 2 long games with lots of deuces both players held serve to take it to a tie break where fairly defensive tennis was played but George stayed more consistent for the win. Interesting match: lots of drop shots, lobs volleys and net-play. George’s passing shots were severely put to the test."

Reveal CommentMichael De Luca bt Ragnar Lorentzen (Jun 21) 6-0, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Ragnar could not find any rhythm in the first set but the second was a lot closer where I managed to serve out after breaking serve."  -- Michael
Reveal CommentMichael Gibson bt Ragnar Lorentzen (Jun 19) 7-5, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Ragnar was 1st up to serve and after about 20 minutes we finally finished the game! I had my opportunities to break but was struggling with my consistency. The 1st set continued on serve until Ragnar broke to take a 4-2 lead. Another couple of service holds and I was fighting to stay in the set. I managed to start getting more of my ground strokes in and went on a run of 4 games to take the set. My serve was working better in the 2nd set which helped get me over the line. It wasn't the prettiest of matches and feel we both could play better. Thanks for the game"  -- Michael

Player Comments:

Reveal CommentFrancis Horovitch bt Christopher Taylor (Jun 14) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Although Chris was suffering with an injury he valliantly soldiered on and we played a great match, the first game of which was an epic back and forth that fortunately didn’t set the tone for the rest of the games. We had to contend with a leaf blower going around the court edges for a while which was hugely off putting! Hope you’re on the mend Chris"  -- Francis
Linton Lahoud bt William Carnegie (Jun 12) 6-2, 6-2
Reveal CommentRichard Lodge bt Linton Lahoud (Jun 10) 7-6 (7-4), 0-6, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Tough gruelling game in the sun, which neither player was gona give up without a fight. First set was tight but I managed to edge it, second set Linton came out blazing and quickly levelled up the scores, final set Linton went 3-1 up and it looked like it was all over, but managed to turn it around at the death- Just!"  -- Richard
