Player Comments:
- "Playing German you know you are in for a battle and today was no exception. A very hard fought match with some great long rallies and plenty of deuce games. German started the brighter and took a 4-3 lead before Jeff responded and with two breaks of serve and a nervy hold Jeff did enough to take the first set 6-4. Jeff started the brighter in the second set to take a 2-0 lead before German fought back to level at 2-2. Jeff then took control by taking the next 3. German pulled one back before Jeff held his serve to take the set and match. A very enjoyable game played in great spirit. " -- Jeff
Player Comments:
- "A closer match than the score suggests with virtually every game going to deuce, lots of break points and actual breaks of serve. The first set went with serve to 3-3, then a break, a hold and another break from Gavin took it. The second set was a case of who could hold their serve with four breaks of serve to 2-2. Then two nervy holds and to close breaks from Gavin took the match. A very tense match with lots of long rallies and some lovely winning shots from both players." -- Gavin
Player Comments:
- "A very had fought match. Over 2 hours just to play 2 sets. Lot of deuce games. Thanks for the game." -- Derek
Group Summary:

Richard F managed to play one more match than Patrick and this proved decisive as he overtook Patrick to cross the line in first. Well done also to Annie, Joseph, Mark and Richard L for making it onto court six times.

Player Comments:
- "A lovely evening match, competitive as always but played with a wonderful spirit. Lots of long rallies and deuce games but unfortunately Annie picked up a slight injury in the third set which allowed me, still with some difficulty, to scrape home. The tactic of wearing black and making myself invisible as the darkness drew in also may have helped! Very much looking forward to the next encounter." -- Mark
Player Comments:
- "Long rallies and good movement from the both of us today. Good fun (as always) - the first time we've not played a three setter or that I've not dropped my first set against him. Mark's recent holiday probably did him no favours! Look forward to playing him again. " -- Patrick

Group Summary:
A full house of wins for Tom puts him out in front on what was a dream debut, though there were a few challenges along the way. Joseph and Patrick both took a set off Tom in their head to heads and made him find that something extra to emerge victorious. Hats off to Joseph too for securing second place and to you all for getting on court for every available match.

Player Comments:
- "Head to head in the 2nd set. What a nice game on this hot August bank holiday. Pedro has a dangerous serve" -- Caroline
- "Yesterday's match was worth the hotness of the sun on Dulwich Park as Caroline indicated her intentions when she took the first set 6 - 1. The second set was a different story as we matched each other's game, from the start of the set, until the end of it. The score was 6 - 6 and a tie-break was needed to find the winner of that second set. Caroline held her nerves exceedingly well by playing an excellent tie-break which allowed her to win it comfortably 7 -3. Although - I must confess - the unpalatable word of defeat made a huge indentation in my pride I took my hat off to Caroline for her brilliant imperturbability and sporting personality! Again, very well done!" -- Pedro

It would have been nice to see a few more matches played in this group, nevertheless this was made up for in part by the fantastic spirit on show. Nicholas made his way past "trick shots", "the sun" and a "good serve" to finish three wins to the good and on top of the podium. Jeannine pips Fiona to the runners up post thanks to one fewer game conceded.

- "Hot 22C and the artificial clay was dry.. The sun was a slight problem with the serve. Nick had a backhand slice which died in the clay. He was very fit and reached most of my returns." -- Peter
Player Comments:
- "The calm after a month's rain, playing on very damp clay. A bit like granulated sugar. A soft or drop shot was the one to send over. Jeannine not having played for about 4 months is a natural stroke player and played without many errors. Peter has to move in to try to take them on the volley. Peter, although ahead in some of the games it was the consistency and movement of Jeannine that came out ahead to win that game." -- Peter

- "A fantastic game with some great rallies. Fiona has a neat little trick shot which she pulled off a couple of times. Well played Fiona." -- Nicholas
