Vertical Tabs

This is how it works:

  • Players are organised into groups of between 5 to 9 people of a similar standard
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • Groups are put together by standard and there can be any combination of men and women in a group (we do not guarantee a balance of men and women and you could be the only man in a group of women or vice versa!)
  • Contact details are emailed and posted to each player's account page
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is:

  • For everyone over the age of 18
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Don't worry that you won't be good enough - playing matches is the best way to improve, and we use an online questionnaire to assess people's ability so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three sets; if a set reaches 6 games all it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group. Contact details are also posted to your Account Page
  • Players are placed in groups according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Each player attempts to play each of the other player on their group once during the round
  • A point is awarded for each set won
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls)
  • The winner of the group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winner of the group wins a voucher for £20 to be spent in the Local Tennis League online shop. A winner's certificate is also posted to the winner's Account Page as a PDF file.
  • Where possible, winners of groups are promoted to the group above for the next round.

Player Comments:

  • "Nice cool night again for a game of tennis at Dawson, score is harsh as it does not reflect all the games that were taken to deuce. Thanks again for the game James, looking forward to the next time!"  -- David
Reveal CommentKenneth Lindsay bt David Anderson (Mar 4) 3-6, 6-3, [10-8]

Player Comments:

  • "Good tennis conditions on a cold and starry night at Dawson Park. Strangely felt relaxed despite this being a decider of sorts, wasn't really bothered about the result, and found myself playing really well. It was good that we got the game finished at least by playing the tiebreak in which I got really lucky. Well played David and thanks again. And thanks to everyone else for helping to make this round run smoothly. Been a long but good one all the same."  -- Kenneth
Reveal CommentKenneth Lindsay bt James Morrison (Mar 2) 2-6, 6-4, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "This was quite a marathon match with James solid baseline play romping it in the first set. Pendulum began to swing in my favour midway through 2nd set though, as James came close to making it 5-2 but I scrambled back to win that game and instead it was 4-3. It was to prove a significant turning point in the match as I then went on a run and took the next 3 to take it to a deciding set which was also very tight. Was hard to bear for James, playing so well today and getting within 2 games of winning in both 2nd and 3rd sets. Reasons to be cheerful for James, nonetheless winning a set at least and notching up a league point. Well played James and good luck with your final match. "  -- Kenneth
Reveal CommentGavin Lang bt David Anderson (Mar 1) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "A very enjoyable match with David this afternoon at Dawson. David got off to a good start and i began to feel nervous. However i managed to relax and bit and find some rhythm mid way through the first set and began to find a better weight on my shots. A pleasure meeting you David, we shared some great rallies. Good luck with the rest of your matches."  -- Gavin
Reveal CommentDarren Pake bt Douglas Roulston (Mar 1) 6-3, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Match at David Lloyd's tonight against a tough player in Dougie. Thankfully for me I seemed to find my best form tonight, felt like I got everything back and forced errors from Dougie constantly putting him under pressure. Felt like everything worked tonight, blocked returns from serve, few volley winners and my backhand was rock solid. Definitely one of the best matches I've played but credit to Dougie who kept his head up and kept fighting and made me work for it until the end. Thanks for the match Dougie and everyone else in the group this round was a pleasure. "  -- Darren

Player Comments:

  • "A beautiful day for tennis at Victoria Park today. Kenny took a lot of the games to deuce and i was lucky to be able to win the big points. Kenny kept getting everything back and we had some great matches. It was good to meet you Kenny, good luck with the rest of your matches."  -- Gavin
Reveal CommentDouglas Roulston bt James Morrison (Feb 26) 6-0, 6-2

Player Comments:

Reveal CommentDarren Pake bt William Sturrock (Feb 24) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "I got off to a blistering start today which settled any nerves and then unfortunately for William I started to play some of my best tennis, a lot of my shots were landing just before the baseline or sometimes landing on the lines making it difficult for William. There was a couple of tough deuce games in the second set as William kept going and never gave up, also some good defence out there today. Thanks for the match."  -- Darren
Reveal CommentWilliam Sturrock bt James Morrison (Feb 23) 6-4, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Another great match with James I always look forward to our games good luck with the rest of your matches william"  -- William
Reveal CommentKenneth Lindsay bt Paul Mudie (Feb 23) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "great game. thoroughly enjoyed it. well played kenneth"  -- Paul
  • "In and around Dawson Park was awash with yellow and purple crocuses and even the odd daffodil, making this feel like a remarkably early spring day and signalling, hopefully, the end of winter and hence more outdoor tennis. Hooray-! Such a glorious day for tennis seemed to inspire some good baseline hitting and general good play from us both. Was impressed by Paul's standard of play as he tells me that he's only recently taken up tennis again after decades off the court. You can play all the shots Paul, and you will only get better. Had you started the way you played in the extra set afterwards, you would have run me closer without a doubt. Well played and look forward to the next time," -- Kenneth
Reveal CommentDavid Anderson bt William Sturrock (Feb 21) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Thanks for the match today Willie, nice to get a game in Forfar again,, already looking forward to our next match"  -- David
Reveal CommentGavin Lang bt Darren Pake (Feb 20) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "A good match today at Victoria Park between myself and Darren. The match was full of very long rallies and i struggled to hit through Darren as he has a great ability to get everything back. Definitely a much closer match than the3 scoreline suggests. Was great meeting you Darren, all the best for the rest of your matches."  -- Gavin
Reveal CommentDouglas Roulston bt William Sturrock (Feb 19) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "A wet night tonight but a good match as always against William. Thanks again for the match and for you to drive all the way from Forfar to Broughty Ferry. Good luck with the rest of your matches. Thanks"  -- Douglas
Reveal CommentGavin Lang bt William Sturrock (Feb 16) 6-0, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "A very enjoyable match between myself and William today. William played far better than the score suggests and was consistently hitting deep, moving me from side to side. It was great to meet you William, good luck in the rest of your matches"  -- Gavin
Reveal CommentDarren Pake bt Paul Mudie (Feb 15) 6-4, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Well played Darren. Got all my lobs and there were many of them. Some of them were outrageous; your legs must be made of rubber to reach some of them. Look forward to our next game."  -- Paul
  • "Was great to meet Paul for the first time today and have a great match. Despite being new to the tennis league and only recently getting back playing again I was very impressed with Paul's level today. He had me scratching my head at times with some of the shots he got back, unbelievable defence. As I got into an early lead in the second set I relaxed and composed a bit more but this was a really tough match I had to just keep plugging away and got the win in the end. Well played Paul," -- Darren
Reveal CommentGavin Lang bt Andrew Gibb (Feb 13) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • " A great match between myself and Andrew at David Lloyd's today. From the start Andrew was serving really big and i struggled to return his first serve. In the second set Andrew pegged me back and we had some great rallies. A far tougher match than the score suggests. It was great meeting you Andrew, best of luck in the rest of your matches."  -- Gavin
Reveal CommentAndrew Gibb v Douglas Roulston (Feb 10) 5-7, 7-5 TBC

Player Comments:

  • "Played our match at David Lloyds Dundee Court 6. First time I have played against Douglas so I was a little nervous of what to expect. 1st set I started strong reaching a 4-1 lead but I failed to close out the set and Douglas worked his way back to make it 4-4 then closed out the first set 7-5. 2nd set was almost a mirror of the first with Douglas starting stronger and breaking first and controlling the points. I eventually broke Douglas back and regained the control of the points and was able to see out the second set 7-5. Those 2 sets had some great points and very long rally's. So at 1 set all and 2 hours 45 minutes played we had ran out of court time and needed to postpone our deciding set to a later date. "  -- Andrew
Reveal CommentWilliam Sturrock bt Paul Mudie (Feb 9) 4-6, 7-5, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Great game it was close all the way Paul was hard to pass every shot came back his defence was a credit to he chased every ball down I just had a bit more luck on the day good luck with the rest of your games you can only get better with the effort you play with william"  -- William
Reveal CommentAndrew Gibb bt James Morrison (Feb 9) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Today’s match was played at Victoria park, it was overcast and dry with 20-25mph winds gusting through the courts. Both James and I struggled quite a bit with the wind being so strong. Even during a serving ball toss the ball would move very quickly away making for some very interesting points. Always a pleasure to play James , all the best for your remaining matches."  -- Andrew
Reveal CommentGavin Lang bt Paul Mudie (Feb 8) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Was great to get back playing again today. The match was played in damp conditions. We had a few great long rallies. It was great meeting you Paul and i wish you the best of luck in your remaining matches."  -- Gavin
  • "Well played Gavin. Too good for me. Lost count of the aces!" Paul
Reveal CommentKenneth Lindsay bt William Sturrock (Feb 7) 7-5, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Good fun match with Willie up in his own turf at Forfar Community Campus. Started off in what felt like ideal conditions but we were both sliding all over the shop due to the courts icing up as darkness fell. Some solid play from Willie made it competitive till the last ball and you can't ask for more than that really. And what's more an excellent fish and chips at the local chippy was an added bonus. Thanks again Willie and good luck etc."  -- Kenneth
Reveal CommentAndrew Gibb bt David Anderson (Feb 5) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Played our match at David Lloyd’s Dundee. This was the first time David and I had played a match together so it was a bit cagey to begin with as we tried to figure each other’s game out. Plenty of good rally’s and exchanges during the match. Really enjoyed the match and look forward to playing again. All the best in your remaining matches"  -- Andrew
Reveal CommentDarren Pake bt Kenneth Lindsay (Feb 4) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Due to freezing conditions it was an indoor match tonight at David Lloyds. I played my best match this round and for quite some time which made the scoreline look pretty harsh on Kenny. I was hitting the ball well and moving well and constantly put Kenny under pressure, everything seemed to come off for me tonight. To be fair to Kenny he hasn't played on the indoor courts often and I'm sure we'll have closer battles in the future! Thanks for the match Kenny and good luck in your remaining matches this round."  -- Darren
Reveal CommentGavin Lang bt Douglas Roulston (Feb 1) 6-3, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Another fun match tonight against a tough opponent. A lot of tight games and long rallies, the scoreline does not reflect how tight the match was. Was great to meet you Douglas and i wish you all the best for your remaining matches. "  -- Gavin
Reveal CommentDarren Pake bt Andrew Gibb (Jan 30) 6-3, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Very tough match with Andrew today at David Lloyd's indoors. I was anxious about this match as Andrew beat me last week in a friendly. Tried to play solid and not be too aggressive just get every ball back in court, this tactic resulted in some ridiculously long rallies! Got most of my joy by drawing Andrew into the net with a short ball and either hitting a lob or passing shot, or giving Andrew a tough volley to make. Found it extremely difficult to hit outright winners past Andrew today, worth noting his running/defence was incredible, this made it a competitive and tiring match. Good match Andrew well played."  -- Darren
Reveal CommentDouglas Roulston bt Kenneth Lindsay (Jan 30) 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Another indoor night tonight. Kenny got off to a flying start and hit some cracking serves, which caught me off guard. He had me running alot. I really enjoyed our match. Good luck with the rest of your games. Thanks"  -- Douglas
Reveal CommentDarren Pake bt David Anderson (Jan 29) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Very tough conditions for our match today at Dawson Park, tough to warm up in what felt like -10 temperatures! David played a good match today and really made me work for my win, a few good cross court exchanges and overall some good rallies considering the conditions! I managed to execute a few good lobs and passing shots which helped me on my way but David also played well and made it a really competitive match. Thanks for the match David and good luck for your remaining matches this round."  -- Darren
Reveal CommentAndrew Gibb bt William Sturrock (Jan 29) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Very enjoyable match played at David Lloyd’s Dundee with William. 1st set was very cagey and both of us a bit tight and not fully relaxed 2nd set we both started to Ralley a lot more and enjoy the match William played some great shots catching me off guard but I managed to keep the momentum going and see out the match. As always an enjoyable match William, all the best for your remaining matches."  -- Andrew
Reveal CommentAndrew Gibb bt Kenneth Lindsay (Jan 26) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Due to the wet winter weather we played our match at David Lloyd’s Dundee in the safety of the indoor courts. Set 1: first couple games were close and both went to multiple Deuce points. Then I started to find my range and slowly pulled away from Kenneth. Set 2: I managed to keep my momentum and keep Kenneth on the back foot. Plenty good Ralleys in the 2nd set making for a good match. Really enjoyed our match as always. All the best for your remaining matches Kenneth."  -- Andrew

Player Comments:

  • "Early on in the league, but a lot was ridibf on this match for me as Paul attends one of the tennis classes I coach, bragging rights at stake! Haha Paul got off to a fast start, breaking me twice to go 3-0 up, not much later I found myself 2-5 down, but managed to knuckle down to take 5 games on a row to seal the first set 7-5! Bit of déjà vu in the second set found me a. Break down early and needing to break Paul at 5-6 to take the second set to a tie break which ended 7-2. Great play all around from Paul today caught me out with a few great lobs and already looking forward to a rematch! Good luck with the rest of your games!"  -- David

Player Comments:

  • "A very cold night tonight but we both were ready for action in tennis shorts. Which was a bit mad but for the amount of running we did, we soon warmed the old legs up. David came out the blocks fast and played very well in the first game, breaking my serve which got me worried. I eventually relaxed but there was a fair bit of duece points. The score doesn't reflect on how well David played tonight. Thanks for the game and good luck with the rest of your matches."  -- Douglas
Reveal CommentDarren Pake bt James Morrison (Jan 12) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Me and James were glad to get back playing again after a few weeks rest, the first set included some tight games that went to deuce but James didn't manage to win the crucial points to get a game on the board. As the match went on I felt I was more relaxed and hitting the ball better but in truth we were both still a bit rusty. Great to get a game in this early and I look forward to the rest of this round, thanks for the match James."  -- Darren
Reveal CommentDouglas Roulston bt Paul Mudie (Jan 12) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "What a game! Paul has just started tennis after only playing a bit when he was 13. He has natural talent on the court and is very fast. He played really well and had me running around every where. I managed to capitalize on his second serve which helped me scramble some points but the games went on forever and it was very close at times. I reckon it would have gone to the wire if he had come back and beaten me in the second. An excellent match with a really nice guy. Cheers for the game and welcome back to tennis and the Dundee league."  -- Douglas
  • "Well played Dougie. Some outstanding shots," -- Paul
