- "Good to meet Joseph for the first time, and the joys of playing at a club I’ve never been to before (Edgbaston Archery). Consistency was key today as Joseph really did run everything down, never seen anybody slide so freely and gracefully across tarmac… made my knees hurt watching! Had some great rallies and shot making from both sides this evening, including a couple of ridiculously good lobs from Joseph. Thanks for organising, and good luck for your remaining matches" -- Dan

- "I always know that whenever I play Rich, it will be an absolute battle, and today was no exception. I started strongly in the first set, leading 3-0, and continued the momentum to win 6-2. I thought it might have been an early finish, but how wrong I was. In the second set, Rich raised his level, and it became a lengthy battle point after point, with holds, serves, and breaks of serve - no real rhythm but close throughout. It ultimately went to a tiebreak, which I won 7-3, probably one of the longest sets I’ve ever played. Interestingly, Rich has never beaten me on clay, and I’ve never beaten him on hard. Our next match will have to be on grass or indoors. Looking forward to it." -- Thomas

- "Great to meet and play against James for the first time. First set started with comfortable holds of serve and then ended up with 4/5 back to back breaks of serve as it looked like nobody wanted to win the set. Second set I started off quickly and moved 3-0 ahead but James’ grit and ability to make you play that extra shot hauled him back into it. I then managed to play consistent solid tennis in the last couple of games to get the win! Good luck in your remaining matches and hopefully play again soon" -- Dan
Player Comments:
- "Enjoyable match with James played in perfect summer evening conditions at Lordswood. James is very consistent and moves well and can hit a hard forehand. He played a lot of good lobs against me after bringing me into the net resulting in some long and interesting points. We had a few interruptions throughout the match including an error in the court booking, having to change balls due to ours being collected and a few times players from other courts walking into ours mid-point, classic parks tennis. I think we both handled it well and enjoyed it. Looking forward to playing again. " -- Thomas
Player Comments:
- "A competitive and enjoyable match, what a thrill! The match started off unfortunately in the rain, and even though it was fine at the beginning, it poured down more in the middle of the first set. Joseph was playing some excellent tennis, with great direction and consistency that I struggled to match. We were about to actually end the match before we had managed to finish the first set, but then realising our conflicting schedules, decided to carry on and move to a less wet court as the rain had settled. In the second set I had managed to find my rhythm and was playing some hard tennis, defending some break points that would have ended it, but it went to tiebreak, and I eventually managed to comfortably win the last set. What a match!" -- Saakib
Player Comments:
- "James is a strong tennis player with the potential to be even better. The first set lasted nearly an hour as James went 4-1 ahead and I had to get back into it with some improved tennis. I fully expected to lose the set and was preparing myself for a very long match but I was quite fortunate with net cords and mishits going in my favour and won the tie break. I played better tennis in the second set whilst James was a little passive at times, allowing me to hit winners. That said, he hit a couple of superb aces and I have no doubt he'll continue to work on the aggressive side of his game and become an even better. A really good match. " -- Richard
Player Comments:
- "An enjoyable match this morning. Saakib started slowly but improved as the match went on. The last few games were very close, and in the final game, he saved multiple match points. We had some 20+ shot points. You wouldn’t have known that he was coming back to tennis after a long break, as his game is consistently strong, and he moves very well, forcing his opponents to beat him to win points. Looking forward to our next game." -- Thomas
Player Comments:
- "Great match with lots of games won either side, amazing that both sets went to tiebreak. Could have gone either way but think I edged it. Dan is a solid player with solid strokes. I think if Dan unleashed some more of his power shots which he's capable of + a few less unforced errors, I would have been in real trouble and the result wouldn't have been the same. Well rounded match overall. " -- Saakib
Player Comments:
- "Great to meet Temi and play our match, he requested I put the score up. We had a high quality match, a mega game at 4-5 in the first set where I dropped serve and the set and then wasn't able to haul myself back in the match. We had some great rallies and really enjoyed the match but Temi was the better player in the end and deserved the win." -- Sam
Player Comments:
- "Second time playing Dan and equally as enjoyable as the first. Dan has a very solid game and is able play consistently and hit winners from both sides. During the first set I was able to start slightly stronger and maintain the advantage. The second set was tight throughout and could have gone either way. Hopefully we’ll play again next summer. " -- Thomas
Player Comments:
- "Saakib is a great competitor and match could of gone either way really. He was able to adapt well in the second set to my game and played really well to lead 3-1 in the third set before some really tough games where I was able to get it over the line. For someone relatively new to tennis clearly very talented! Great match thanks Saakib." -- Sam
Player Comments:
- "Superb match. Dan deserved to win it before the time ran out but I somehow scraped it back to 5-5 in the second set. Excellent tennis. To be continued..." -- Richard
- "From part 1 of this epic and having to finish the match off after being poised at 5-5 in the second set, the couple of games and tie break to conclude the set were somewhat intense and pressurised. A couple of errors from me would’ve seen a third set being played, or a couple of errors from Rich could’ve seen the match finish quickly. So we decided to have a couple of close games on serve and a very tight tiebreak again which luckily I managed to come through! It would’ve been rude not to use the time slot up at lordswood and not play a couple of quality, friendly sets in the heat… which shockingly were also tight and won one each. Rich is one of the strongest LTL players you’ll come up against, look forward to the next epic battle!" -- Dan
Player Comments:
- "Having played nearly two hours of tennis with Dan, the last thing I then needed was a match against someone who chases every ball and makes you work exceptionally hard for every point, but that's exactly what I had against Saakib. It was his first league match but you wouldn't know it. His ability to chase everything down makes it difficult to get many easy points. We had some ridiculously long rallies and I really thought I'd lose the match when Saakib deservedly won the second set. However, with the light fading, he made a few more errors and I was very relieved to win. Great match with a super opponent. Thanks for the game!" -- Richard
Player Comments:
- "A slightly bizarre match between myself and Sam. We've played a couple of times in the league and also had a few friendlies so I knew to expect a close, competive match. As it was, a slow start from me and some strong play from Sam meant that he thrashed me 6-1 in around 20 minutes. The second set was then similar, except the roles were reversed. Sam made more mistakes whilst I improved. We then had a strange third set with some disruption from children wanting to borrow our equipment and making the set a little stop/start. It could've gone either way at 3-3 but I managed to find a way to win. Pretty fortunate to win in honesty but a good, entertaining game in the sunshine. Thanks Sam." -- Richard
- "Great to play Rich again and started well to get my first set off him! Unfortunately wasn't able to maintain my level to get the win. Well played Rich." -- Sam

- "Fantastic match against Dan, great strokes off both sides and some amazing rallies and shots from us both. Was a real epic and look forward to our next match. " -- Sam

- "Great to meet Dan for the first time today. Very competitive match and I think our level is very close. I was 5-2 up in the first and dan made a great come back to push it to a tie break. Again in the second I was 5 -2 up and again tried a comeback. A very tough opponent that will push you to your limits. Look forward to another game in the future." -- Jonathan

- "What a long grueling match. All credit to Ruth, although I didn't play my best tennis at times, Ruth took full advantage, making me play an extra shot, forcing mistakes and pushing me all the way. I think Ruth has definitely improved since our last match. Thanks for pushing me hard and helping me find some form. Look forward to our next encounter." -- Jonathan

Player Comments:
- "It was a pleasure to meet and play Thiago on another sizzling hot afternoon . There was little shade on court and I soon realised there was going to be little respite in the long and brutal rallies! I managed to build up a slight lead and take the first set. In the second set, we were locked at 2-2 before Thiago held his serve in a game where there were possibly 8-9 deuce points. Fortunately I was able to take the next 4 games and get over the line but it was never straightforward and I am not sure I could have carried on much longer! Thank you for the game Thiago and I look forward to playing you again." -- Dougald

- "It was a pleasure to meet and play Peter on a very hot afternoon. Peter came out of the blocks quickly winning the first 4 games whilst I struggled to read his clever sliced shots and adapt to the artificial grass surface. There were long rallies in the gruelling heat and slowly I managed to work my way back into the set. At 6-6 we went into a tie break which I just edged. The second set was equally close with fatigue playing a part in the severe heat. Frankly I was glad to get over the line after being on court for what seemed like a very long time. Thank you for the game Peter and especially the cold beer after! How good did it taste? Cheers. " -- Dougald
Player Comments:
- "Thanks James for the match I which we had plenty of decent rallies. Towards the end of the match we had built up a number of spectators, now whether that was to do with the quality of our play or whether they were hoping for us to finish so they could be on court is a moot point.Anyway very enjoyable to meet and play James." -- Peter
Player Comments:
- "Very nice weather to play at Cannon Hill Park. James was really nice, and we had lots of fun playing. Although the scores were quite straightfoward, we had really good rallies and lots of deuces. Unfortunately, I was a bit more consistent and managed to finish the sets. Nice to have met you, James and I hope we play more in the future." -- Thiago
Player Comments:
- "Good to meet and play Leanne fot the first time on August Bank Holiday Monday morning. Although the first set was comfortable for me, Leanne started to find her shots and play with greater power and consistency in the 2nd set. Fortunately I was able to stay in the points and get over the line. Many thanks for the game Leanne and I look forward to playing you again in the future. " -- Dougald
Player Comments:
- "The weather was really good to play, and Peter was really welcoming and cheerful. Peter had some very good slices, which I would have to adpat constantly. First set was pretty much straightfoward. However, the second set was more disputed, because Peter started reading my strokes. Ultimately I won, by it involved a lot of sweat. Thanks Peter, it was a really fun match to play." -- Thiago
Player Comments:
- "It was good to meet Michael and play him for the first time on a warm summers evening at Cannon Hill Park. The scoreline was very flattering to me - there were good competitive rallys between us and some entertainment was provided by a very young lad who kept kicking his football over the fence into my side of the court! Thank you for the game Michael and I look forward to playing you again in the future. " -- Dougald
Player Comments:
- "It was good to meet and play James for the first time on a warm sunny evening in Cannon Hill Park. Although the first set went comfortably in my favour, the second set was a different affair. James started to find his range with some good and varied groundstrokes and was a little unfortunate not to win some more games. In the end my consistency was enough to get me over the line. Thank you for the game James and I look forward to playing you again in the future. " -- Dougald
