Rob Starling bt Charlotte Grew (Oct 5) 6-0, 6-3
Reveal CommentShereen Akhtar bt Gabriel Sutton (Oct 5) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Serves remain my Achilles heel really. I struggled with the overarm early on and, partly noticing Shereen positioning herself pretty deep, I went with the underarm which at least meant a few more of my serves remained in play than against Rob S and Charlotte, but long-term I want to nail down the overarm. On the flip side, I wasn't quite able to return Shereen's serves to her backhand in the way I was able to on occasions against Charlotte and that was partly down to some convincing serves on her part. Again, some decent rallies that I feel I can build on. Well done to Shereen."  -- Gabriel
Reveal CommentCharlotte Grew bt Gabriel Sutton (Oct 4) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Congratulations to Charlotte on her victory. I think this game was decided primarily on serves - it's still something I'm getting to grips with as a novice, especially in terms of taking them. I caught Charlotte out a few times by returning her serves to her backhand which I was pleased with, but credit to her because the accuracy of her game never really waned. I'm hopeful that once I get better at serving, I'll start to be more competitive because I still felt like there were some good rallies in there today and a couple of games that went to deuce that could have gone my way on another day. Good luck to Charlotte for the rest of her campaign and I look forward to facing Louisa and Rob H shortly."  -- Gabriel
Rob Starling bt Louisa Henry (Sep 29) 6-1, 6-4
Reveal CommentRob Starling bt Gabriel Sutton (Sep 25) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "My first ever tennis match - only had an hour's group coaching under my belt, so happy not to have lost 6-0 in either set! Though if I'm honest, both games I'd won were helped significantly by Robert being slightly experimental with his serves! I felt I could hold my own (relatively speaking) in general play, had some decent rallies at the start of the second set and there were one or two returns I was quite pleased with, but no question I had issues with returning serves and getting them on target myself. That said, I was able to cause Robert more problems with the overarm serves than the underarm when I was able hit the spot so hopefully more to come from me. Really enjoyed the game - all the best to Robert with his campaign!"  -- Gabriel
