Vertical Tabs

This is how it works:

  • Players are organised into groups of up to 8 people of a similar standard
  • Contact details are emailed
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is:

  • For everybody!
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Don't worry that you won't be good enough - playing matches is the best way to improve, and we use an online questionnaire to assess people's ability so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three sets; if a set reaches 6 games all it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group
  • Players are placed in groups according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Each player attempts to play each of the other player on their group once during the round
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls).
  • The winner of the group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winner of the group wins a certificate and tennis prizes
  • Where possible, winners of groups are promoted to the group above for the next round.

Getting started

New players will need to complete the player questionnaire before they can join a round. Once you’ve signed up, and for returning players you can join any of the upcoming rounds above.

For everything you need to know before you get started see the FAQs and review the Rules and Regulations, which all players agree to adhere to when playing in the leagues.

''I thank you for all your efforts & organization :).  I am looking forward to the next league & hoping for sunshine :) ''

Phil Coulter

I'm enjoying the format and I have met some really lovely people.  The extra 2 points for playing half your matches by the half-way point is a great idea.  Thanks for all the hard work in organising the league. It is very much appreciated.

Nick Lauder

"I have really enjoyed playing in the league this round and have just paid to play in the 2nd round!"

As always the round was very enjoyable. I played some old competitors and met some new. Local Tennis Leagues is a wonderful way of meeting new people to play tennis with. I feel my game is improving in every department as I get to play so many players with different styles and strengths

Amer Jahangir

Thank you for organising this league. As someone who has just moved into the area, it gave me an opportunity to get out, play some tennis and meet new people

I am glad I found this league and would like to join again. Thank you again and I appreciate your efforts in putting together and maintaining the local tennis leagues,

  • "At a good 3 1/2 hours, probably the longest match I've ever played. The time taken reflected not only that neither Chris J nor I have the greatest attacking shots to triumph over stubborn and defensively skilled opponents, but also the snail's pace with which two tired players made their way around the court between points by the end!"  -- Chris

Reveal CommentAndreas Jones-Fernandez bt Hugo Joyce (Aug 15) 6-2, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "A long and draining match played on a beautiful evening. The court was very slow which made for a competitive and close match with lots of long games. I managed to master Hugo's heavy top spin and won the last five games of the first set. The second set was a lot closer with Hugo using the lob effectively and keeping the set competitive. After I held serve throughout the first set and a half Hugo secured a hard earned break of serve to level the set at 4-4. With the sun setting and the match at a crucial juncture I managed to break back and serve out the match for a hard fought 6-2, 6-4 win. "  -- Andreas

Reveal CommentPrakash Patel bt Hugo Joyce (Jul 20) 6-2, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "On a cooler evening than most we have had in recent weeks, this was a match we both looked forward to playing. We both found returning first serves a challenge. The first set seemed to slip away from Hugo's grasp whilst he got to grips with his service. Hugo got more onto his stride with his services in the second set but somehow found himself 4:0 down. Hugo seemed to play with more freedom and abandonment at this point. The rallies became longer and soon had fought his way back to 4:4. Hugo played with more confidence and I realised I needed to raise my game too. After breaking Hugo's heavily sliced serves in the 9th game of the set, I managed to fire in a consistently challenging service game to finish the set 6:4. A very enjoyable match"  -- Prakash
Hugo Joyce bt Laura Scaramella (Jul 18) 6-4, 6-2
Reveal CommentMaj Chowdhury bt Elena Feldberg (Jul 17) 6-1, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "There were discrepancies in couple of points, Apart from that first set was pretty uneven second set was more competitive , Elena put up a steely fight before the match wast taken in straight set."  -- Maj
Reveal CommentAndrew Rose bt Laura Scaramella (Jul 14) 6-4, 7-6

Player Comments:

  • "This is our second match, enjoyed it the weather was nice too, won first set quit quite easily at 6.4 .but second set was very different laura played three great games i couldn't upset her run for three games good serving wide angled shots plus tierdness was against me and her can of red bull. Buylt soon after i started to gain back my serve was warmed up by this time and benefited from a few aces to gain ahead but only just as we were even resulting in a tie break which i managed only just at 8:6 thanjs for the game laura pleasure to play you again. Andrew. "  -- Andrew
Reveal CommentMaj Chowdhury bt Laura Scaramella (Jul 12) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Both Laura and I are from the same club but never played singles with her before. This was a rather good opportunity to be able to play some singles with her. It was rather a good fun."  -- Maj
Reveal CommentPrakash Patel bt Elena Feldberg (Jul 12) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "This was an interesting match filled with nearly every kind of shot under the sun albeit at rather unexpected times. There were aces, cross court winners, base line rallies, volleys, drop shots and a peppering of double faults. Elena played the shot of the 1st set with a rasping cross court return of serve. The best shot of the 2nd set went to Prakash with an unreachable heavily sliced service return. Thanks Elena."  -- Prakash
Reveal CommentPrakash Patel bt Sophie Stack (Jul 9) 2-6, 6-2, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "This was a good match in dry conditions. The first set was even at 2-2 then Sophie ran away with the set by taking the remaining games in quick succession. A second set fight back saw a reversal of fortunes. The 3rd set could have gone either way but I soon established a good lead of 4 - 1 with may shots going deep into the court near the baseline. Sophie kept refusing to give up but the midday sun may have played a part in the final set outcome being 6 - 1. I expect we will have a few aching muscles after this match."  -- Prakash
Reveal CommentSophie Stack bt Laura Scaramella (Jul 6) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Lovely location and some good rallies"  -- Sophie
Reveal CommentPrakash Patel bt Laura Scaramella (Jul 5) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Conditions were dry with a strong evening sun that affected clear vision of the lines from one side of the court. However, both players suffered in equal measure from the glare. The first set appeared to be one way traffic as Laura found it challenging to return serve and hold her own. There was steely determination to put up a fight early in the second set when the score reached 2 games to 1. However, in this match tennis experience overcame energy and enthusiasm with a score of 6 games to 1. Laura summed the match up well as saying I had more tools in the box than she did. So, its not the size of the tool that matters, its how many you have that counts. This was a match full of fun, technique, enthusiasm and determination to do well."  -- Prakash
Reveal CommentPrakash Patel bt Maj Chowdhury (Jul 2) 6-2, 2-6, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "It was ideal Sunday morning for tennis - dry, sunny and hot. Maj delivered some pacey first serves when they went in. Maj also had to deal with some tricky shots too which resulted in the outcome of the first set going my way. The 2nd set was a complete turn around where Maj showed more consistency of shots and took the 2nd set via a net cord. The scene was set for a 3rd set that could have gone either way. By now, the heat seemed to take its toll as the consistency of Maj's shots began to desert him as I upped my game that resulted in a 6-0 final set outcome. This was an enjoyable yet challenging match."  -- Prakash
