Collapse AllEnfield Parks Singles - Round 42 | Thursday 20 June 2019 to Wednesday 14 August 2019 (Midpoint: Wednesday 17 July 2019)
We love the tales of summery tennis and a lot of the tennis in Enfield this round seems to have been played on the hottest days of the year. Maybe that's why a few more matches than ideal didn't get played this time - but a great round nevertheless!
Group Summary:
A great return to the league for Ed who stormed through all his five matches losing his only set to Nick. But that didn't stop it being tight at the top with Daniel, a group winner from last time, playing one more match overall to help earn a strong second-place. James with three nice wins of his own takes the bronze.

Group Summary:
Some scorching weather and some scorching matches in this very tight group. All the top four earned bonus points and all ended within a point of each other. Well done then to Simon who by getting a point from his midweek marathon with Sean just crept ahead of the chasing pack. In truth we had three runner's up all sharing eight points, but using the measure of sets and games conceded, Vincent who matched Simon for total wins this round, earns the silver. Well done all on your great battles!

- "Great competitive match, very enjoyable" -- Joey
Player Comments:
- "First set swung either way throughout and lasting an hour threatened to limit the match to one set due to light and or being thrown out of the park as allegedly it closes at 8:45pm. I eventually managed to take it on a tie -break and we decided to see how far we could get on the second. Again there were some long rallies and Sean came back to even the set at 4-4 after being 4-1 down. It got to the point where we had to guess where the ball was coming and could only see it clearly when it landed on your side of the net and had to improvise a return shot due to the lack of light. Managed to finish second set after 9pm without being locked in. " -- Tim
Player Comments:
- "Great game in the heat, Robin played some great stuff throughout and was a very enjoyable competitive match" -- Joey
Player Comments:
- "Good game in 30+ degrees! Rusty start from Joey but grew into it a little more, great defence and consistency from Simon led to the victory! :)" -- Joey
Player Comments:
- "Courts were slippery after a night of rain and then gradually became dry in patches so movement was tentative with advantages to be taken on drop shots or being able to make the opponent change direction or have to move quickly on to the ball. After I got off to a good 3-0 start, Robin found his way back into the set aided by producing a series of strong first serves and disguised forehand winners. The contention for this first set then became close run going to 7-5. With a surer footed court and less percentage of Robins first serves hitting the mark, I was able to overcome any threat of a further repeat comeback in the second set. " -- Tim

Group Summary:
It might look a little like groundhog day for David who won group three last time, but there were more groups this time, so David can be well pleased to have won on his promotion. It was convincing tennis too with not a set dropped and a couple of bonus points to add to his tally. Michael, our runner up, can also be pleased with his round and will take comfort from David's description of their match, a classic "much closer than the score suggests" encounter. Well done too to Alex who played one more match than everyone else, won three of them and picks up the bronze.

Reveal CommentMichael Ossei bt Maj Chowdhury (Aug 2) 1-6, 6-2, 6-4Player Comments:
- " I could not get going on the first set as Maj plays a lot of Topspin and served well. The second set I had to take my time and stay in the game with few winners to seal it off. The third set was great because I lead 3 - 1 and Maj broke my serve and lead 4 -3. I came back to 4 - 4 and managed to close it off at 6 -4 thankfully with two double fault from Maj. Thanks Maj for the game and sorry for the news. " -- Michael
Player Comments:
- "Another epic match w Chris. Long, tightly fought rallies and Chris' penchant for returning everything you throw at him! Great location too. Thank you. " -- Alex
Player Comments:
- "Beej is returning to the game of tennis and he has a solid foundation to work on. He has excellent ground strokes and despite what the score suggest there were some very good rallies. Just keep on playing Beej and your game will steadily improve. It was a pleasure to meet you and good luck in your remaining matches." -- David
Player Comments:
- "This was Beej's first competitive game in the leagues and it took him time to get into his stride hence the first set appearing one sided. The second set was the opposite with Beej finding his stride and going toe to toe almost taking the set. Thankfully after some tricky rallies i managed to see out the second set. Great to get this game done, thanks Beej." -- Christopher
Player Comments:
- "Another cracking match with Alex. Some great rallies and many deuce games. Thanks for the match Alex." -- David
Player Comments:
- "A very nice day for a perfect tennis match. Chris was invincible on the second set, a lot of rallies and he fought back from 5 - 2 down to 5 - 5 with advantage to win the set. Unfortunately for him, one passing short was went wide and I managed to hold on and finished the set. In all, we both enjoyed the game. " -- Michael
Player Comments:
- "Another match where the score gives a misleading perception of the battle which took place. Chris won the first game of both sets and many of the remaining games went to deuce. I managed to dig deep and gained victory. Thanks for the game Chris." -- David
Player Comments:
- "Very good weather for Tennis and beautifully courts. Thanks Alex for the game. " -- Michael
Player Comments:
- "An enjoyable match with Michael which was much closer than the score suggests. Particularly the second set where Michael got off to a good start winning the first game. The pivotal game turned out to be the third which was the longest involving many deuces. I just managed to hold my serve to take a 2-1 lead. The remaining games were also close with the final one having me 0-40 down but I managed to fight back to close out the match. Thanks for a great game Michael." -- David
Group Summary:
Did Simon and Ashley give up on the chase a little too soon? Certainly Ognyan was the beneficiary of his excellent scheduling skills. By playing five matches, he was able to shrug off (and no doubt learn from) the two defeats along the way to emerge the comfortable group winner. So note to selves - do try to get as many matches in as you can, you never know what might happen!
