A mixture of weather conditions was no obstacle for our players this round, who completed some great matches with plenty of really close sets! Thank you to everyone for submitting a lovely range of commentaries, which are a credit to Erdington’s exemplary atmosphere of sportsmanship. Exciting matches played in a friendly spirit are what the leagues are all about!

Group Summary:

It’s no coincidence that the two players who came top this group were the only ones to score bonus points – keen match organisation really can make all the difference! Congratulations to Ian, who got an impressive clean sweep of five matches, and to runner-up Ricky. Ian and Dawud had a marathon battle spanning across three sets, James and Joel had plenty of deuce points, and James and Jahual had lots of lengthy rallies. Well played everyone!

Player Comments:

  • "Another enjoyable evening at Pype Hayes park! The new courts really do play very well. I was fortunate to be fairly fresh for this game and went for a lot of big shots that on other days might land out and change the result. Joel was a dogged opponent, taking me to deuce in a few games and he tried a few different tactics, but I just had one of those days when everything seemed to land on the line. "  -- James

Player Comments:

  • "Brand new courts at Pype Hayes were a delight to play on , and I'm glad Jahual had booked in advance because they proved popular, with people playing on the grass whilst waiting for their slot. The match itself was a pleasure - with both players keen to keep the ball in play for lengthy rallies. In the end I was able to keep Jahaul far enough back to be able to take advantage of some shorter balls which over all made the difference. Thanks for the good workout and a very enjoyable match!"  -- James
