I have now played and enjoyed three of my singles matches. Opponents were all very friendly and although easily outplayed by two so far am really enjoying the opportunity to play singles again after a break of more than four years due to being unable to find opponents. Travelling from Plymouth is a pain but thoroughly enjoying meeting new players. Thanks everyone.

Karey Mayers

"I think I speak for both of us [my opponent and myself] when I say a big thank you for such a simple but great idea to get people playing tennis,"

Dave Dalziel

Player Comments:

  • "Homage to my opponent Hui who still turned up to compete on a mild, yet damp morning. The first set was close. His powerful groundstrokes took a lot of work from my side to contend with. I edged it 6/4. Unfortunately in the second set with the scores tied at 3 all, Hui fell with a change of direction shot from me. He continued after a break but the set finished 6/3. "  -- Lee

We both squandered/saved match points (5 between us!) in the final set before the tie-break. Chris led the 2nd set 4-1, and both the final set and the final set tie-break 5-2 so I don't know how I won in the end!"  -- Rory

Player Comments:

  • "A long 2 3/4 hour match including the warm up! We'd both played the night before too. Lovely evening for it though and we managed to secure a mostly shady court by turning up at 5.30. As the score suggests the match was pretty even, loads of duces and lots of hard thought rallies. Will has definitely improved his game from the last round. We had an amusing moment when a child picked up and walked off with one of our balls, he was with his mum, and Will to leave the court and go and ask for it back (which he did very tactfully and kindly). Player Comments:

  • "We played this match over 2 British summer Mondays. It was a long one. Day one was pretty windy and it was tough to get on top of the groundstrokes. We got to one set to Andrew after a tiebreak then with kate 4:1 up in second we had to finish as 2 hours had gone by. Day 2 was extremely humid having been raining shortly before play then the sun came out to evaporate it away. We had some great rallies despite the challenging wind / heat. Thank you Kate for battling with the traffic. "  -- Andrew

  • "What a warm night and a great game as well. A lot of games went to about 3 deuces, neither of us could hold serve for 6 consecutive games AND we forgot the game score at the beginning of the second set! I blame the heat 😂 In amongst the above some cracking shots were made by both. "  -- Rob
