  • "Really good competitive match in hot weather. At times we were both hitting blind due to the sun. A bit like turning corners on the narrow streets of Shawlands in a large work van... at times you just need to hope for the best. Tight first set. I saved three set points at 4-5, but then lost the tie break. Second set I started well and found my timing better. First game of the third set was the best quality we played in terms of winners and thankfully I was able to stay ahead. A good effort on both sides with some good rallies in between all the errors. • "Really tough match against a good opponent. Stu hit some outrageous winners and the entire match felt back and forth games with not much between us. It also rained the entire time but we decided to play on. Once or twice the ball aquaplaned which wasn't ideal. I'd played Stu once before at doubles and he hit some nice stuff so I knew the game was going to be good. 344 zone minutes on my fitbit confirms it was a tough day the office for both of us. Cheers for the match mate and playing on in the rain. "  -- James

Reveal CommentGamal Haddou bt Scott McGregor (Aug 30) 6-2, 4-6, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "The score does not reflect many close games and deuce points we had so it was a hard slog against Scott - almost 2 hours intense playing proved that. In the 2nd set he played much stronger to win 5 games in a row to my dismay and come back from 4-1 down. So then we were even and the chocolate came out for the 3rd set! Scott edged ahead but I got it to 2-2, then fewer errors on my part got me to 6. Perhaps knowing the courts start closing at 21:45 had an impact on Scott to rush shots. But I was pleased for the finish and no repeat of the middle set. Good luck in the remaining games Scott and you definitely deserve your point for the middle set winning 5 games in a row!"  -- Gamal

Reveal CommentGamal Haddou bt Felix Merk (Aug 21) 6-0, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "On a warm Sunday afternoon the game went my way for the first set although we had a few deuce points and Felix was unlucky not to get 1-2 games. Occasionally his serve showed good strength and position . We fixed the net height and proceeded to set two. This was closer going to 3-3 at one point before too many errors allowed me to gain a lead. We deserve brownie points perhaps for getting the first game in but I am sure Felix's other games will result in a win. Good luck in your others."  -- Gamal

Player Comments:

  • "Great match today with Stefano. Quality tennis and some great winners on both sides of the court. Two tight sets were played before I managed to take the third and the win. Happy to take the win though, thanks again for the game Stefano!"  -- Michael

Player Comments:

  • "First set score doesn't refect the contest, we both fought hard for each and every point. Some long duece games but on this occasion the important points went my way. The second set score better reflects how the match was played, breaks of serve for each of us. Some great serves, passing shots, lobs and volleys from both of us made for a close set. The score swung one way then the other. After what seemed the longest duece game ever the match went my way on this occasion. Thanks for the game Lynda"  -- Robert

Player Comments:

  • "A great if exhausting match with John at Queen's Park. Everything seemed to be going well as I served for the first set at 5-3 before John turned things around with some great returns of serve and winners and kept that level up to take the set. I got in a more consistent groove to take set two and tried to carry this into the third but John had other ideas and the set became a tight battle with multiple changes of momentum. I just managed to take it in the end with a frankly fluky volley after multiple deuce points. Thanks for the match John. All the best with your others."  -- Gordon

I scraped together some consistency but still count myself lucky for the match to have gone to a deciding set. Some long rallies and many deuce games meant we didn't finish in the alloted two hours. If the match was awarded based on quality of groundstrokes then Sarah-Jayne would have won it on points! As it stands, all to play for."  -- Rahul

Reveal CommentCallum Dell & Jack Edward bt Rachael Brooks & DAVID ALEXANDER (Sep 12) 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (7-5)

Player Comments:

  • "Great competitive match. Me and Callum were lucky to get the first set as easy as we did as David and Rachael had been hanging with us the whole time. Second set Callum dropped serve for the first time at 6-5 and we went to a third. Outstanding reflexes from David in particular to keep him and Rachael in it. Moment of the third set for me came at 4-5 0-30 when I had to feel a dead net-cord ball back into play and somehow won the point. Surviving that game and breaking in the next, Callum stepped up to serve it out - but was broken to love. We opted to play a 10-point tiebreak... Me and Callum were lucky enough to find our A-game when it mattered most and took it 10-5. Fantastic match! Well played guys 👍"  -- Jack
  • "Great match thanks guys we really enjoyed it☺️" -- Rachael
