"Really glad I joined. Great way to meet new players,"

Brian Rainey

"I really enjoyed the experience of playing in the league. It was exactly what I was looking for, regular games, a good workout and that bit of competition to spur you on. I will definitely continue to play in the league and have encouraged a couple of friends to throw their hats in the ring (or racquets on court). I feel that my game has improved because of playing in the league and hope this continues also,"

Robert Graha

"Really enjoyed playing in Group 3. I feel I've improved my game since I first joined the league a few years ago, still got a lot to learn though. Playing in Group 2 will certainly be a tough test, though I'm looking forward to it,"

Stewart Campbell

"Absolutely loved it. Great idea, and fantastic to meet new players from the area. Looking forward to the next round!  Thanks!",

Ross Burnside

"A great event - its definitely not about winning but meeting new people who share the same passion for the sport and above all who love having fun on the tennis court. Thank you Sally and Nigel.", Stephen Reynolds

Stephen Reynolds

"First time playing in an organised league since school days.  Enjoyed all my matches, looking forward to the next round.",

Gerard Boyle

Reveal CommentAlasdair Duke bt Gordon Buchan (Jul 29) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Gordon has a consistent serve and played some great passing shots. I had home advantage and was having a good day at the net. A closer game than the score suggests. Thanks for the game Gordon."  -- Alasdair
Reveal CommentDaud Sakandar bt Thomas Oldham (Jul 28) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "LTL always asks if the match was a walkover; despite having played the match, I was tempted to tick yes on this occasion... Daud is a top player, and as is often the case for the weaker opponent I thoroughly enjoyed getting thrashed. It might not look like it by the scoreline, but he bought out some of my best tennis, forcing me to serve tactically and deploy every shot I have (when I could). On top of a fun match he is also a gent. However, hopefully you won't manage to complete all your other matches thus allowing me to illegitimately claim the League One throne muhahaha! Thanks a lot Daud, and looking forward to another hit soon!"  -- Thomas
  • "Good match v Thomas. A lot of winners and big returns. Will get another hit with you soon." -- David

Player Comments:

  • "Great game with Blair today. Lots of long rallys, Blair can really get to almost every single ball and is very consistent. Again, I had home advantage on the slow KG courts. Thanks Blair for the fun game."  -- Kenneth
Reveal CommentGordon Buchan bt Kenneth Lee (Jul 19) 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), [10-7]

Reveal CommentKenneth Lee bt Scott Ferguson (Jul 15) 6-3, 4-6, [10-8]

Player Comments:

  • "Good game with Scott. I probably had home advantage as we played at KG with the slow astroturf. Might've been a different result if we played elsewhere. Fun game and some good winners on both sides."  -- Kenneth
Reveal CommentBlair Edward bt Gary De Allende (Jul 14) 6-1, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Good to meet and play with Gary for the first time. Definitely caught you at a good time before all those latent skills come back consistently. I think things will be entirely different once you get a few matches under your belt again. Cheers"  -- Blair
Reveal CommentThomas Oldham bt Scott Ferguson (Jul 13) 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, [10-6]

Player Comments:

  • "Really brutal first set for both of us - we both seemed capable of punishing each other in similar ways, and running things down too. Ooofff. Second set had a few swings in form as the light drew in but Scott saw a wee comeback from me off very tidily in the end. Onto the champ toebreak and I returned the favour seeing off a comeback from Scott. Really enjoyable and physical game as always against Scott, thanks a lot!"  -- Thomas
Reveal CommentThomas Oldham bt Kenneth Lee (Jul 9) 6-3, 4-6, [10-7]

Player Comments:

  • "Wild swings of form within games meant that no game was a given even at 40-0. Second set saw much improved consistency from both, hard fought games and long deuces. Good fun and a really lovely guy, cheers Kenneth."  -- Thomas
Reveal CommentBlair Edward bt Scott Ferguson (Jul 7) 6-4, 6-3

Reveal CommentAlasdair Duke bt Blair Edward (Jun 29) 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, [11-9]

Player Comments:

  • "Blair was desperately unlucky to lose. This was a close game that swung back and forth, with lots of long rallies, careful ball placement, lobs, drop shots and last ditch recovery shots. Blair is a tough opponent who doesn't give up and moves both himself and his opponent around the court to good effect."  -- Alasdair

Player Comments:

  • "An enjoyable match on a beautiful day played in a really friendly spirit. Although I claimed the win, the match highlight was Craig’s running backhand lob which dropped perfectly just inside the line. Shot of the day or perhaps the season!"  -- Geoff
Mick Mooney bt Barnaby Webb (Jul 25) 7-6 (10-8), 6-2
Reveal CommentGamal Haddou bt Craig Chamberlain (Jul 21) 6-3, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "In the 28°C heatwave we played our game. The first set edged forward neck and neck until I was 4-3 ahead and then luck was on my side to get the next two games. Craig plays some very strong serves which I could only block to return. One game was over before I knew what happened! However too many faults during other games allowed me to keep level. Some rallies he won with brilliant shots and the heat was reminding me of my last 2 losses. Somehow the score got to 5-4 in the 2nd set and I had 2 game points. Craig stayed focussed and levelled it. But his lack of play this year was to my advantage and I managed to win 2 points to finish the ordeal. I joked winter 🥶 3°C is more my temp. Hope for a rematch in the future."  -- Gamal
Reveal CommentGeoff Nathan bt Andy Rhattigan (Jul 20) 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "A really tight match played over a very long 2 1/2 hours on one of the hottest days of the year. Record amounts of water downed during the game. All of which probably took a toll on the quality of the match but it seemed like an achievement just to get it completed. Phew!"  -- Geoff
Reveal CommentGeoff Nathan bt Kevin Kelly (Jul 12) 7-6 (7-4), 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Match played in a good spirit on a beautiful summers day. A very tight first set with as many breaks of serve as holds. Don’t think Kevin’s injury helped in the second set. Sure once that hip is in full working order Kevin will be a seriously hard nut to crack. "  -- Geoff
Reveal CommentCraig Chamberlain bt Kevin Kelly (Jul 7) 6-4, 3-6, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Enjoyable match on a slightly sweaty indoor court at Newlands. I got off to a good start in set 1 but Kevin came back and nearly took it to a tie breaker. Set 2 was a struggle for me with consistency and Kevin played much better. The final set saw Kevin struggling with an injury initially but he battled to win a couple of games before I was able to close it out. Always a pleasure to play Kevin. Thanks for the match and good luck in the rest of the round. "  -- Craig

We started with exchanged breaks of serve then stayed level til I just managed to sneak a break after several deuce points at 3-3 and hang in on serve for the rest of the set. I cut down on some inconsistencies in the second set which helped, but there was still a lot of long rallies and deuce games that could have gone either way, with some great serves, returns and winners from Hugh. Thanks for the match Hugh, all the best in your other games."  -- Gordon

Reveal CommentSam Currie bt Greg Broadhurst (Jun 20) 7-5, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Tough, competitive match in which we also had to battle against the humidity. Lead kept changing first set, lots of running and deuce, had to come back from 4-5 down, helped by a couple of net cords. Greg led early in the second set, and I had to battle back before getting a vital game and holding serve for 5-3. Just managed to find enough to get over the line. Very tough, evenly matched game. Thanks Greg."  -- Sam

Player Comments:

  • "Usually when a 6-0 occurs, the players will sometime say the set was much closer than the scoreline suggests, but in this instance I got completely annihilated. 3rd set I lost a few key points which led to a pretty comfortable victory for Brian. My serve was horrendous but Brian kindly gave me some vital pointers which'll add some much needed consistency to it. He's a top fella, and if you read this Brian, thanks again for all the advice mate. Best of luck in your final game (if you manage to play it)."  -- Nicholas

  • "Really competitive match with very little to choose between us One game in particular was a marathon and must have lasted over 20 minutes. Larry has a wicked slice backhand that had me picking the ball up off my toes when it wasn’t skimming past me. The last two sets were nip and tuck and could have gone either way. Just came down to the odd point here and there. Thanks very much for the match Larry and best of luck with your remaining games."  -- James
