Another fantastic round in Glasgow typified by well contested groups and a friendly spirit on the court. Thanks to everyone who took part and we hope to see you all again next time.

Group Summary:

Group one mastered the art of scheduling with every player earning their bonus points and prize. Stephen secured a clean sweep of wins to extend his winning streak and add another title to his name - can anyone stop Stephen's charge to the top next time? Ben and Jack finished on the same number of points and with the same win/loss record to make it a very close call for second. Their head to head was "another memorable match" and it was Ben who eventually emerged victorious over three sets to clinch the silver.

Player Comments:

  • "Really good match with Ross. he hadn't played on this indoor surface before so took time to find his rhythm. We decided to play a championship tiebreak for the third set due to the long number of deuce games we were having. I managed to stay solid during the tiebreak which swung the match my way. Best of luck Ross in your final match. Hopefully we can get another game soon."  -- Paul

Player Comments:

  • "What a match with Ben over a fun 2 and a half hours. First set very tight and could have gone either way - just a couple of points in it. Second set Ben was outstanding - dominating the match with his ground strokes. Third set went with serve until I managed to break at 2-2 after one of the longest games I've ever played - I'm guessing about 14-15 deuces. After that we were both so knackered it was break after break until I managed to hold my serve at 5-4 to sneak it. Great match played in a tremendous spirit. Thanks for the game Ben. Looking forward to the next one. "  -- Ross

Fraser's big serve forced me to be on my return game and we had our fair share of lengthy points, frequently putting me on the run throughout the match. Thanks for the match Fraser, all the best with your others."  -- Jack

Jim and Drew followed only one point further back and the race for second place between the two went right to the wire. Their head to head was a marathon affair and after three closely fought sets it was Jim who got the decisive break in the decider to pip Drew to the runner up post. A shame to see Ross and Neil withdraw - hope you're both ok.

Jim's serve was firing well and saw him comfortably consolidate a late break to take the first set. Sets two and three were both tight and I had to hustle like mad to edge a break in a couple of long deuce games. Thanks for a great battle Jim. Good luck in your other matches. "  -- Gordon

Miranda's excellent tennis and good scheduling skills proved a recipe for success as she moved clear into first place. Well done to Chris too for making it onto court for five of his matches.

  • "First time playing in Drumchapel and what a great set-up they have there especially with the floodlights. In the second set Karen found her first serve and held two service games to love. Her cross court forehand was winning lots of points and had me at deuce in virtually every one of my games. By the third set we were both exhausted and the slugs were getting closer to the court. Luckily for me, my miss-hits started landing in and won me some vital points with the end of the set being very close again. Thanks for the game and all the best Karen. "  -- Chris

Player Comments:

  • "A very enjoyable and very tight match. Several games went to deuce with fabulous long rallies using all the court! The weather was perfect for tennis and both of us hit some lovely shots. Miranda came back from 2-5 down in the first set to take it to the tie-break. Ashe seemed to wilt in the second set but recovered to fight for the third set. Overall, just a very enjoyable contest completed by very refreshing drinks on the balcony watching 9 year-olds showing how strokes should really be played! - Ashe x Really fun match played in (surprisingly) deserted courts on a beautiful day. Look out for Ashe as she doesn't really seem to have any weaknesses in her game - I was just lucky this time! Good luck with the rest of your matches, Ashe! M"  -- Miranda

  • "Nice August day for a match, with sun but not too hot! Ashe hits majority fh and bh slices, including spinny serves and these worked well on this occasion. Lots of winners and close games but the relentless spin, and short balls won out in the end. Thanks for the match and coffee Ashe."  -- Karen

Player Comments:

  • "Lovely night and perfect conditions for tennis. After a quick warm up we got the game underway and both played a mixed bag of hitting winners with some horrible unforced errors. In the second set Gordon found another gear. He started to hit wicked spin shots, his serve speed went up and he became more accurate. Gordon really attacks the ball and tries to go for winners early on. The game was closer then the scoreline suggests but I didn't have the weapons or variety to put Gordon under any real pressure. I did manage a nice ace in the second set but in Gordon's last serve of his last service game he managed to put one down the T to level the score. I suspect to see Gordon't name in a higher table in a few seasons. "  -- Chris

  • "First time playing on the artificial clay courts in Hyndland. It took a little bit of time to get used to but overall they get two thumbs up. On more than a few occasions it was very helpful to check the mark on the line to see where the ball had actually bounced (I only say that because I clipped the line a few times) Ashe is a very good player who can mix it up well. Her use of topspin and slice kept me guessing and every time I came to the net I was either lobbed or she found a passing shot. Second set I was more used to the conditions and played a bit better taking a 4:1 lead before finding myself behind at 5:4 with Ashe serving for the set. Lots of close games but Overall the best player won. Thanks for the cuppa tea" &

  • "Very close match. I started well and went into a 4:0 lead with Shirley being ahead in every game so I was thinking it was a wasn't a fair reflection on the score. 3 Games later at 4:3 and having hardly won a point I was beginning to panic; however, my serve started working and got me out of trouble. Set 2: The wind and the sun started to play a part and some of my shots were definitely going out ended up hitting gusts of win that pushed them onto the lines. Overall a very fun, friendly, even match. Shirley has a very weighty first serve, a great lob and can move you around the court no problem. "  -- Chris
