Reveal CommentSam Webb bt Rob Elliott (Oct 6) 4-6, 6-2, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "An epic opening league encounter saw Webb finally come out victorious against Elliott in 3 sets, played over 2 days due to bad light. Elliott raced to a 4 love lead and eventually took the 1st set 6-4. But like a pendulum, the momentum switched in favour of Webb, who tamed his ball toss demons to take the 2nd 6-2. Too much gabbing before and during the match left proceedings delicately poised at 1 set a piece. Finally it was Webb who returned to hold his nerve, hold his serve and take the deciding set 6-1, bringing an end to a match filled with super slicing, spinny forehands, countless double faults and great gabbing. Thanks for the game Rob and good luck with the rest of the league!" -- Sam

Player Comments:

  • "First set I seemed loose and hitting freely. Thankfully my service game held well and I wasn't double faulting like I can do. Tom took time to get into the game but it was quite different in the second set with a lot more longer rallies and some good tennis played. I was thankful to take the bigger points, we played a third which Tom deservedly won, as he was hitting more consistent. Thanks for a good match Tom and good luck with your other matches."  -- John

  • "Warming up I was fairly sure I was going to be scrounging for points. However my backhand was working for once and I landed an unlikely run in the first set. Duly, it was a different story in the second set - lots of deuces, some fun rallies and Scott snuck into the lead right at the end of the set but I steadied it and won a close tie break. Fun match - thanks Scott!"  -- Thomas

Second set was equally close with a lot of great rallies I was delighted to take it. Third set was more of the same great rallies lot's of good tennis and I felt a bit lucky to win this as Santiago is technically a better tennis player."  -- John

  • "The typical Scottish weather couldn't stop us playing at KG this evening. Despite of having some injuries Steve won first set easily and put me under pressure leading 6-4 (A closer set but Steve was in fire). Luckily I always play well under pressure and managed to equalise the score by getting 2nd set 6-1. Third set had been a real fight with lots of duec games and longer rallies. I relied on my stronger service and crossed the milestone by cashing Steven's mistakes luckily. Steve has got a persistent game and unbelievable returns. If he hadn't had any sore arm, the result would have been opposite. Thanks Steve for giving me the lift back to my home. Wish you all the best for rest of your games. Looking forward to have a hit when you"  -- Muhammad

Player Comments:

  • "A competitive match played at KG in a lovely sunny morning. Mick had a great start of first set by winning first game 40-0 and I could hardly win the second game. The score line doesn't reflect the actual effort I had to put to cross the lines in addition to struggling with my longer hair (As I forgot my hair band at home 😊) . Definitely a lucky day for me. Wee sips of hot coffee made me awake and warm enough to make 2nd set a roller coaster. We also played a friendly third set where Mick played his actual game and I managed to equalise the score 5-5 by the skin of my teeth. We ran out of time and couldn't complete it. I always enjoy playing with Mick who makes me run all over the court. Good luck with your rest of the games Mick. Nadeem"  -- Muhammad

Player Comments:

  • "A nice evening in Busby and Mick's 2nd game of the day. I was expecting a tired pair of legs but it wasn't to be and I had to work for most of my points. On the longer rallies Mick generally came off best so I needed a different approach. The second set was tense with Mick coming from behind to win around 5 games in a row and take the lead. OMG I thought.... We both had some good shots and ones to forget! I think the Covid masks 😷 and one-way arrows everywhere earlier in the day messed up my/our vision. Some shots were just plain funny such as the mis hit serve (v slow) that landed correctly but the sound 🔊 was so off putting it made it a winner. Christmas is not just in the shops.... Good luck Mick with your remaining games."  -- Gamal
Reveal CommentAleksandar Odaybat bt Muhammad Nadeem (Oct 15) 2-6, 6-4, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Had a great time with Nadeem who started the game solidly and got 4:0 up. Then eventually started to play better managing to stay equal in the games and with a lot of effort I took the second set 6:4. We didn't have time to finish the third as people in Kelvingrove didn't allow us to take a free court so we decided to take a long walk to Queens Park just to see that the courts were locked! Anyways had a great time with you Nadeem and looking forward seeing you again to decide the winner. "  -- Aleksandar
  • "Continued our game with Nadeem from 2-0 down at the third this time at Queens Park. Nadeem got 4-0 up and by that time, I was not playing bad but missing key points. Gradually I started to change the game style and that paid off. Eventually, by finding the right tactics and staying solid during the rallies I turned the whole game around and won 6-4 winning 6 games in a row! What a match! Couldn't be more delighted. At 4-1 down we had the longest game that had around 10 deuces(saved quite a few breakpoints). Thanks, Nadeem, keep your head high, it wasn't your day and you were not in perfect condition as well, you gave me the toughest game! Good luck with the rest of your games!" -- Aleksander

  • "On the day Scotland's new lockdown started and after a heavy 1 hour spell of rain (and delayed start) we finally began. It was a close first set with many deuces and Kevin taking advantage of a strong 1st serve. However his leg injury was a big factor and slowed Kevin down. A change of court was made at 6pm and the second set fortunately went quicker. No drink to unwind because the Scottish Govt closed all venues for 2 weeks. 😷"  -- Gamal

  • "Incredibly a competitive and nerve cracking tennis was played at KG with Edward who's got a versatile strong service and fab lobs mixed with drop shorts. Luckily I managed to have a lead 5-0 in first set when he got on track but it was too late. In second set he took the revenge 5-0 up by playing marvelous tennis. 3rd set would have gone either way. Ed had made me so tired that I couldn't report score last night. Well played Ed. Wish you good luck with your upcoming fixtures. Cheers.xx Nadeem"  -- Muhammad

  • "Great match with Mick at a windy Busby. First set was unusual in that we both held all 6 serves to force a breaker and that was also incredibly close with just one break point enough for me to take it. Mick served really well second set and won it easily but I got my serve back in the decider and an early break let me serve out but the match could have gone either way. • "Really enjoyable match at Kelvingrove this afternoon. The fast, unpredictable surface gave the server a big advantage, so it was no surprise the first set went to a tie break. Moritz raced to a 5-1 lead and managed to hold me at bay to win what had been a very evenly-matched set. My serve started to malfunction a bit in the second and Moritz was able to profit. I was left to rue a break point with the score at 3-2: after a long baseline rally, I gambled and rushed the net but my volley ended up just falling short. Player Comments:

  • "What a strange match, with lots of ups and down from both sides. The first set was relatively straightforward, 1 break of serve in my fablur and not a whole lot of break points. The 2nd and 3rd sets however were a completely different story. I went an early break up and thought I was on course for a straightforward straight sets when, but Jim had other ideas and broke my back and won 4 games in a row to take the set! And that quickly became 5 games in a row as I though Jim was going to run away with it in the 3rd, but I managed to regain some composure to hold serve. A bit of confusion with the scoreline in the 3rd set disrupted us both a little as breaks of serves were traded again. I managed to sneak the important break and get the W. GLJ"  -- Matthew

I just managed to sneak the vital break at 4-4, and managed to serve out the set. In the 2nd set Peter managed to get some rhythm in his game and he ran away with the set 6-1. And that's when the heavens opened, which made for a very difficult 3ed set, which was again very up and down, I managed to sneak a break to lead 3-2, but I got broken straight back and was soon 4-3 behind, but I managed to just win the vital points at then end, in some near impossible conditions to sneak the win. Scoreline ridiculously flattering with the majority of games going to deuce. Not sure if I was holding my nerve or riding my luck on the bigger points. A 3rd set tie break played for fun saw us both relax and up our game a bit. Score was 10-10 at which point we decided to tap racquets and call it. Reveal CommentSam Currie bt Francesco Vanni (Oct 11) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Early start on a Sunday, which might explain the odd unforced error, though there were good rallies and good shots too. First set saw a lot of service breaks before I held and managed to get over the line. Second set the opposite, we both held serve, until I managed to break to go 5-3 up and hold fir the match. Very enjoyable and closely fought match once again. "  -- Sam

  • "Thanks to my good friend for the invite to play on they cracking courts, tighter game than score suggests, few deuce games in there.
