Player Comments:

  • "I knew this was going to be a tight match and it certainly was. Just over two hours at langside in changing conditions, court switches due to lights and tussle tennis throughout. Scott was serving BIG and consistent throughout and made me run for every ball. Good match and good chat! "  -- Rob
Reveal CommentFelix Carpenter bt Nicholas Doran (Apr 27) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "A change from the tennis experience of the past weeks, Nick and I had both heavy wind and rain. We toughed it out and played a match I thoroughly enjoyed. While Nick made me earn my games, moving me around a lot I found some consistency in this match and managed to pull through most of the match. Although I was serving out the match Nick dug in and took the game well past 10 deuces, finishing with an exceptionally unintentional smash-drop shot into the wind. Thanks a lot for the match Nick!"  -- Felix

Player Comments:

  • "A very tight match with quite a few multiple deuce games played over a gruelling 2 1/4 hours. Conditions were a bit tricky with a few rain interruptions as well as Nicola Sturgeon passing us a few times while belting out her message on a megaphone - reckon she was just wanting to watch our match. Both of us will need a few days rest after this one!"  -- Geoff
Reveal CommentKevin Kelly bt Daryl Docherty (May 5) 6-1, 5-7, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Brilliant match with Daryl at Gorbals. I settled quicker and served well in the first set. Daryl came back strong in the second and found his range more. It was nip and tuck until 6-5 but Daryl went for his shots and deserved to win the set. There were lots of deuce games and long rallies and that continued in the decider. Daryl was more attacking and I was more defensive just hanging on at times. I got a vital break to lead 4-2 and Daryl continued to play better than me but I just dug in and scraped the win. Was nice to actually finish my match this time as they let us stay on and also no wind was a big bonus! Very lucky to get the win and good luck with the rest of your matches Daryl."  -- Kevin
Reveal CommentCraig Moyes bt Geoff Nathan (Apr 29) 6-3, 7-6 (7-2)

Player Comments:

  • "Lovely spring morning for tennis and a well balanced and tough match. I had the edge in 1st set with some consistent serving but Geoff came battling into 2nd set with some long ground and volley rallies. Set swung back and forth usually against serve before heading into tie break. Two similar tennis styles and great match. Thanks Geoff. "  -- Craig

Reveal CommentKevin Kelly v Pauline Taylor (Apr 27) 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (7-9) TBC

Player Comments:

  • "Epic match with Pauline in very windy conditions. I took a roller-coaster first set on a tiebreak but Pauline looked like she was running away with first set but from 5-1 down I won five in a row. Pauline saved five match points and took the set to another breaker. She again saved match points before forcing a decider. Look forward to our deciding set and hopefully weather will be kinder. "  -- Kevin
Reveal CommentCraig Moyes bt Gamal Haddou (Apr 24) 3-6, 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Very close match which could have gone either way. Beautiful night for tennis with only complaint being sun blinding serve on one side of court. Gamal commanded first set, with Craig racing through 2nd set, and a very close 3rd set with both players being careful and chasing down every shot. Gamal has some good finishing shots and a perfect lob to play. Found it difficult to play against with depth of returning. "  -- Craig
Reveal CommentMuhammad Nadeem bt Daryl Docherty (Apr 23) 6-2, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Absolutely an epic battle at QP on a lovely and beautiful evening. Luckily I got first set before Daryl settled. The second set would have gone either way. Daryl retained his momentum and played fantastic Federer's backhand shots and took a lead of 5-4. Though I was feeling lethargic due to Fasting (Ramadan) and struggling to return the ball running all over the court, don't know how I managed to win it. Good luck with your rest of the games. Nadeem "  -- Muhammad
Reveal CommentPauline Taylor bt Barnaby Webb (Apr 22) 6-0, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Enjoyable game played in perfect tennis weather. Pauline played a great style of tennis that I really struggled to contend with cruising through the first set. The second became a bit more competitive but I was always struggling to catch-up. Well played"  -- Barnaby
Reveal CommentCraig Moyes bt Barnaby Webb (Apr 18) 6-1, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Really tough game (for me!) - Craig served brilliantly with a high level of consistency so the pressure on my service games was really high. Some decent rallies though and a fair few deuce games but the score was a fair reflection of the match. "  -- Barnaby
Reveal CommentCraig Moyes bt Muhammad Nadeem (Apr 17) 6-2, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Very close match on a beautiful spring evening. Many games went to deuce and match was probably closer than scores suggest. Nadeem was a very fast and difficult player to get past on court, chasing down every shot that was hit. Good game overall."  -- Craig

Reveal CommentMuhammad Nadeem bt Kevin Kelly (Apr 6) 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "We both were absolutely rusty as it was first match for both of us. We struggled with the wind, bright sun and our stamina. Definitely it was my day and I managed to beat Kevin first time in the history. Lol. It was incredibly competitive , nerves cracking match and would have gone either way. I won it by the skin of my teeth. Wish you good luck with rest of your matches Kevin. Cheers Nadeem "  -- Muhammad
Reveal CommentBarnaby Webb bt Geoff Nathan (Apr 5) 7-6 (7-2), 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Really competitive and tight match. No breaks of serve in a really close the first set (or break points!). The second see-sawed a bit more with a few breaks and both of us not taking opportunities. If a few points had gone the other way the result would have been very different - very close match and very enjoyment"  -- Barnaby
Reveal CommentBarnaby Webb bt Gamal Haddou (Apr 3) 5-7, 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Tiring match played in blazing sun so great tennis conditions. Contrasting playing styles made for some fun rallies - I think in the end the difference was I had played more than Gamal recently so I was just a bit less rusty. Good match"  -- Barnaby

  • "A good match with Adeel on a lovely sunny Saturday afternoon at Queen's Park. Adeel has only been playing for a few months and his serve was beset by the dreaded league match yips at key points (something I can only too well relate to!). Despite that there was plenty of long competitive rallies throughout. We had a hit afterwards where he relaxed a bit more and fired down some powerful serves and forehands that showed more where his game will be with further match play. Player Comments:

  • "Great match with Jim at Queen's Park played in the alternating sunshine and hail of a typical Scottish spring day. The first set was marked by alternate breaks of serve with me just managing to consolidate a late break to take it. Jim stormed ahead in the second with some great aggressive play including one particularly sublime down the line passing shot. I managed to rally back slightly at 5-0 but he held fast to take the set. Due to time limits we played a champions tie break for the third which mimicked the first set with several mini breaks exchanged before I just edged it with a late break and hold of serve. Good to see you again Jim. All the best with your other matches."  -- Gordon

  • "Energetic match in the evening. Lots of deuce games and long rallies. Got the early advantage to go 4-0 up, before Eva got into her rhythm with her new racquet and fought back to 3-4 before I held my serve and broke for the set. 2nd set had a similar pattern, I got the early advantage, just shading some close games, before Eva held her service games with some low, wide serves that had me stretching to connect with them. Managed to get some consistency in my serve at the end to close out a fun, closely contested match. Thanks Eva, good luck with the rest of your games."  -- Sam

  • "Good match in sunny conditions. Despite the score, and John having only just taken up tennis, there were some good rallies and I had to save several game points. "  -- Sam

Player Comments:

  • "Really competitive match at a sunny Drumchapel. The difference in the first set was due only to Stephen's rustiness after 20 years not playing. Once he found his serve it took all my effort to secure the set. Second set it was really tight, lots of long rallies and deuce points. I had to really concentrate at 4-5 to save a few set points, before managing to break and serve out the set. Thanks again Stephen, best of luck for the rest of the round."  -- Sam

Player Comments:

  • "Tough match as usual with Dimitar, nothelped by random crosswinds. Dimitar got an early break and kept ahead to take the first; I then found a bit more rhythm and some luck to win eight games in a row before. At 2-1 we had a very long, critical game, with at least ten deuce points, which I managed to win to maintain some distance. Remaining games very close, but my early advantage got me over the line. • "Hard-fought match at a sunnier than expected Knightswood. First set saw the lead change several times, lots of deuce games, before the inevitable tiebreak. Just got my nose in front there and secured the set. Peter made the better start to the second, to lead 3-0 and 40-0 in what turned out to be the critical game. I managed to claw my way back into the game, helped by the sun making life difficult for the player facing into it at times. Again, close games, most going to deuce, but just shaded it. Thanks Peter, good luck for the rest of the round."  -- Sam
