Player Comments:
- "Very tough match against a very tough opponent, I couldn't see what his weak points were, his serve, forehand and backhand were lethal. I was able to turn the result around after several match points against and several sets where the tension was high. I was able to take the tie break by improving my serve. We will definitely play again. Robert played a great tennis match." -- Alejandro
Reveal CommentGytis Leliuga bt Robert Thorburn (Dec 18) 7-6 (7-5), 6-4

- "Extremely tough match against a very good player. First set should have been Rob’s, but I managed to somehow come from behind twice. Second set was also going Rob’s way before I eventually managed to turn around. Will definitely play again in the future as very competitive. Thanks for hosting and good luck!" -- Gytis

Player Comments:
- "An absolute lung busting match with Alejandro which we'd been trying to play for a while. He gets everything back!! So many great long rallies and many deuce games too. Was a great work out with a great guy. I think the main difference was confidence on serve because everything else worked very well for both of us. Thanks Alejandro and see you soon again! " -- Rob
Reveal CommentJames Bruce bt John Currie (Dec 11) 6-4, 6-2
Player Comments:
- "Competitive hit at the newly laid Scotstoun. Tense first set. John won the toss. I broke first. At 3-2 serving I’m thinking we got this. Just keep a steady head, concentrate and relax. A few minutes later I’m losing 4-3 and ok……ok, maybe we don’t got this. Annoyingly most of the best points were played after the match finished and we both relaxed a bit more. Look forward to the rematch mate. " -- James
Reveal CommentAlejandro Olivares bt Scott Ferguson (Nov 30) 4-6, 6-4, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "Very physical match in a noisy and distracting Scotstoun. First set went to Scott 6-4 very dominant with his serve. I was able to turn it around in the second set 6-4 for me. The last set I was able to hold my serve to take the match 6-3. The toughest match so far for me. We definitely have to have a rematch in better conditions." -- Alejandro
Scott Ferguson bt James Bruce (Nov 22) 6-3, 2-6, 6-4
Reveal CommentRob Elliott bt Geoff Nathan (Nov 21) 6-3, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "Geoff and I have had some good (long) battles in the past and this one had some big rallies too. I think I was fortunate that Geoff wasn't serving at his usual level, meaning a couple of breaks. A good work out in the heat of Scotstoun. Thanks Geoff and good luck for the rest. " -- Rob
Reveal CommentJohn Currie bt Alejandro Olivares (Nov 13) 7-6 (7-0), 4-6, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "A really good match at Drumchapel tennis club there was nothing in all 3 sets. 1st set went to a tie break and I got momentum from the 1st point onwards. Second set it was going the same way but alejandro broke me at 5.4 up to take it. 3rd set was equally as close and I think that I was lucky to take it. Really enjoyable match. " -- John

- "Great match Geoff. Movement great - score line didn’t show off quality of match. Thanks for the game. Good luck for the rest of the matches " -- Robert
Reveal CommentJames Bruce bt Alejandro Olivares (Nov 5) 6-3, 6-2
Player Comments:
- "Not an easy game and the score line flatters me slightly. Alejandro wasn’t used to the surface, fireworks were going off and it was damp. Not ideal. On hard surface I think the score would be a lot closer. Alejandro can run like a leopard and I had to turn into a gymnast to win a few of the points. Good luck with your remaining games + hopefully we can rematch indoor at some point. " -- James
Reveal CommentJames Bruce bt Rob Elliott (Nov 4) 6-3, 6-2
Player Comments:
- "Decent enough first set only one break in it. Lucky on my side I won the toss and served first. Brief 20 min light delay. We were both growing sceptical they would come back on, but apparently the delay is a safety feature so the bulbs don’t pop. Rob hit some powerful serves and we had some good rallies here and there. Some tight games with not much in it. Cheers again for the lift home. Enjoyed the hit. Catch you soon. " -- James

- "Callum beat me in the previous round and looked on course to do so again as he raced into an early lead and secured the first set - his effective backhand slice causing me difficulty. Fortunately I found some better form thereafter - angles over power was a better choice on a blustery evening for overcoming Callum's defence. Thanks for coming over to Langside and see you in the new year no doubt for another hit." -- Stuart
Stuart Miller bt Dan Graves (Dec 9) Walkover
Reveal CommentBarnaby Webb bt Chris Lee (Nov 29) 6-0, 3-6, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "An odd first set with a scoreline that flattered me - a combination of luck and unforced errors. Chris came out firing in the second though, breaking at the first opportunity and then getting through a couple of really tough service games where he either produced huge first serves on the big points or hit clean winners giving me no chance to get back in it. The third set saw me take an early lead and despite trading breaks I hung on to win before exhaustion took over! A really good tussle of a match with a first set that did not reflect our abilities and then two sets of really great tennis" -- Barnaby
Reveal CommentStuart Miller bt Trevor Forsythe (Nov 28) 6-1, 7-5
Player Comments:
- "Up with the larks for an early hit with Trevor at the Gorbals. I found some early rhythm that helped me to win the first set but life was much more difficult in the second as Trevor's serve became more consistent. I had to dig out some ugly games at 0-3 down to get into the set. Trevor hit some beautiful winners off both wings in an even set thereafter which I stole with a late break. Trevor is on the road back to match sharpness and it will only be a matter of time before he's winning more games than he loses. Thanks for the hit and I look forward to hosting you at Langside for a rematch soon." -- Stuart

Reveal CommentCalum Robertson bt Barnaby Webb (Nov 22) 6-3, 6-3

Reveal CommentChris Lee bt Trevor Forsythe (Nov 17) 6-2, 6-0
Player Comments:
- "Cheers for the match, Trevor. A real struggle getting out of bed for a 7am start but a great way to start the day. Good luck for the rest of your matches and I'll book up another court for an early hit again. " -- Chris
Reveal CommentStuart Miller bt John Bailey (Nov 17) 6-3, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "Nice to play in out the rain at Scotstoun. A tough match with little in it throughout. John hit some tremendous winners off return of serve when I came into volley so I had to vary my game and give him different angles to think about. Hopefully we can get that doubles hit organised. Best of luck in your remaining matches, John." -- Stuart
Reveal CommentAji Ugwu bt Chris Lee (Nov 13) 7-5, 2-6, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "Thanks for having me over, Chris. I must say this was the hardest match I have played with you considering we have played loads of times. Yes, playing three days in a row is not ideal unless you are an 18 yr old Nadal. I am still unsure how I won the first set as I was already tired during the warmup. The second was clearly deserved to you as you ran away with it. We know each others game so much but, I see you have added a few more shots to your armamentarium and now have an aura of unpredictability. I think the difference today was a 5 min water break between set 2 & 3. As always it was a pleasure. " -- Aji
Reveal CommentStuart Miller bt Barnaby Webb (Nov 12) 6-7 (4-7), 6-0, 6-1
Player Comments:
- "Always a tough match against Barnaby who was on top on the first set and recovered from the disappointment of losing a break advantage to take the time break. Barnaby's strength is his two-handed backhand and I had to vary my game to limit his opportunities on that side. Two long games at the start of set 2 went my way and that gave me the ascendency for the rest of the match. Thanks for coming over to Langside and good luck in your remaining games, Barnaby." -- Stuart
Reveal CommentAji Ugwu bt Trevor Forsythe (Nov 12) 6-0, 6-1
Player Comments:
- "Thanks Trevor for coming over. Like I mentioned to you, you will be unplayable once you fine-tune a few things. You serve from the 5th floor and there is not enough space to step back to get good purchase on those serves. Numerous times I was returning your serve above head height despite being 6 feet behind the baseline. Groundstrokes are fire ?. It would be a pleasure to play again as your game type requires a different set of skills to contend with. All the very best for the rest of your matches!" -- Aji
Reveal CommentStuart Miller bt Aji Ugwu (Nov 12) 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (7-1)
Player Comments:
- "An excellent match played in two stages after time beat us first time out. Aji has a superb first serve that is fast and has a lot of dip on it and it took me quite a long time to get to grips with it. Allied to that he has a fierce forehand - he duly punishes short balls. I managed to overturn a break of serve to snatch the first set before Aji took control of the second. When we returned a week or so later I had to bring a better level of tennis. Both of us served well as the pressure grew towards the climax of the set. With no breaks of serve it was a tie break to settle it. I managed to get over the line after getting my nose in front. Absolutely nothing between us - already looking forward to a rematch. Thanks for hosting Aji." -- Stuart
Reveal CommentAji Ugwu bt Gamal Haddou (Nov 11) 6-1, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3
Player Comments:
- "Thanks for coming over, Gamal. A hard fought match. All the best for the rest of the league." -- Aji
Reveal CommentBarnaby Webb bt Trevor Forsythe (Nov 10) 6-4, 6-4
Player Comments:
- "Good early morning match. I'm lucky to have played Trevor now, if he'd had a couple of more matches under his belt I wouldn't be running out a straight sets winner. The first set was determined by a couple of double faults in the first game (lucky I was not serving first!) while Trevor's strings broke at a terrible point for him in the second meaning he had to use a backup racket. Look forward to the next match" -- Barnaby
Reveal CommentJohn Bailey bt Trevor Forsythe (Nov 5) 3-6, 6-4, 6-1
Player Comments:
- "Really fun game! Played in half darkness due to a floodlight malfunction!" -- John
Reveal CommentStuart Miller bt Chris Lee (Nov 4) 6-3, 7-5
Player Comments:
- "A tight match played in glorious sunshine on the artificial clay courts at Woodend. The sun made life difficult from one end in the first set in which I managed to stave off a late fightback from Chris. Chris rallied well in a topsy turvy second set where the lead and ascendency changed hands a number of times. I had to save a set point before sneaking a decisive break for the match. Thanks for hosting me and good luck in your remaining games, Chris." -- Stuart

Player Comments:
- "A match of numerous momentum swings with both of us not playing our best at the same time. However, it all came together in a very competitive third set that had to go to a tie-break at which point it was a toss-up who would win. A truly exhausting but fun match" -- Barnaby
Reveal CommentBarnaby Webb bt Gamal Haddou (Nov 1) 2-6, 7-5, 6-3

Reveal CommentCharlie Connelly bt Gary Vallely (Dec 6) 3-6, 6-3, 6-1
Player Comments:
- "Match played in sub zero temperature tonight with court a bit slippy in places. Gary deservedly took first set after taking a 4-0 lead. I did start to find my game but not enough to claw back set. 2nd set I managed to find some consistency and after a neck and neck start I managed to break away and take set. We both agreed to further brave the cold and play a 3rd set which I eventually won. The last game looked like it would never end with multiple deuce points. I wasn’t keeping count but Gary used SwingVision app to capture match so looking forward to watching back some of the highlights. Good luck in remaining matches. " -- Charlie

Reveal CommentCharles Cameron bt Michael Law (Nov 30) 6-2, 1-6, 6-4
Player Comments:
- "Brilliant match under the lights with Michael - with some really consistent tennis being played, and plenty of long rallies and winners. I managed to take the first set 6-2 which felt a little strange as it was very even, and then Michael deservedly took the second set playing at a high level. The third set was very even, and could have gone either way - with plenty of deuce games. I managed to get it over the line - a really physical and demanding match played in good spirits. " -- Charles
Reveal CommentCharles Cameron bt Amar Campbell (Nov 27) 4-6, 6-2, 6-1
Player Comments:
- "An enjoyable match with Amar which lasted just over 2 hours. Amar deservedly won the first set 6-4, and had a 2-0 lead in the second, however, I managed to raise my game to come back and win it 6-2, before securing the third set 6-1. A great match, played in a good spirit, with plenty of long rallies, strong defence and big winners. " -- Charles
Reveal CommentDavid Martyn bt Charlie Connelly (Nov 26) 6-3, 6-2
Player Comments:
- "Some brilliant long rallies against Charlie this morning. A very consistent player with a great attitude to the game, look forward to playing Charlie in future rounds. We both managed to waste lots of opportunities at the net but that didn’t take away from the overall quality of the match. Best of luck with the next games in the group." -- David
Reveal CommentDavid Martyn bt Michael Law (Nov 23) 6-3, 6-4
Player Comments:
- "The score did not reflect how close the match was. The first set was very finely balanced at 3-3 before I got lucky with a few close games. The second set was a completely different story- Michael deservedly went 4-1 up in the second through a combination of skilful drop shots and powerful drives. Anything short or slow was put away with real aggression. The momentum then turned and Michael struggled to maintain the form he showed earlier in the set. An extremely competitive game- think we both surprised ourselves at the quality of some of the points. Best of luck with the rest of your games Michael, if you play like that you will do very well." -- David
Reveal CommentCharlie Connelly bt Charles Cameron (Nov 19) 7-5, 6-2
Player Comments:
- "Really competitive match today with Charles. We both suffered in first set as the sun was low in sky and made seeing ball very difficult… actually make that impossible at times. Charles coped best at first taking an early lead and holding on to get to 5-2. I then managed to get a bit more consistency in my game and eventually won first set 7-5. 2nd set was tight too with some of the longest rallies I’ve had in a match for some time. Was delighted to get 2nd set over the line. Crucial match when I was serving at 3-2 up went on for some time with Charles pulling back from 40-0 down to take game to numerous deuce points. I eventually took game and went on to take set. I was exhausted at end, good luck for rest of your matches. " -- Charlie
Reveal CommentGary Vallely bt Amar Campbell (Nov 19) 6-2, 6-1

Player Comments:
- "Great night for an enjoyable match. Quite a few deuce games across the match but tonight my game was consistent and I managed to overcome Steven’s defence. Some great shots from steven and consistent serving but he wasnt able to produce consistent winners. Good luck in rest of your matches. " -- Charlie
Reveal CommentDavid Martyn bt Steven Brown (Nov 7) 6-0, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "The wind and rain stayed off allowing Steven and I to have a good hit on the clay at Burnside. Steven struggled a bit with the slice in the first set but then worked it out in the second and deservedly took three games. Thanks for the game Steven and good luck with the rest of the round." -- David
Reveal CommentDavid Martyn bt Charles Cameron (Nov 6) 6-2, 6-2
Player Comments:
- "A hard fought game against Charles on his return to the leagues after a break of a few years. Charles took and early lead and there were several breaks of serve but in the end I was just a bit more consistent in some of the rallies. First set ended on a twenty five shot rally with several overheads and recoveries- best of luck with the rest of the league Charles." -- David
Reveal CommentCharlie Connelly v Michael Law (Nov 5) 6-2, 3-6, 5-4 TBC
Player Comments:
- "Michael and I agreed to play indoors due to weather forecast being poor so as we should have predicted under blue skies we headed into Gorbals tennis centre … Both first and second sets were very similar. I was 2 down in first before winning the next 9 games. At 3 down in second Michael then went on to win 6 in a row to take 2nd. In third we traded games until we got thrown out at 5 pm when Gorbals closed. As per previous matches with Michael it was close throughout with lots of deuce games so all to play for when we arrange to gets this finished. " -- Charlie
Reveal CommentDavid Martyn bt Gary Vallely (Nov 5) 6-2, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "Gary and I have very similar styles which made for a very enjoyable game: great topspin backhands one minute; easy forehands going six feet out the next. We both found our rhythm in the second set and had some good rallies. The only difference between us was my first serve. Thanks for the game Gary and best of luck for the rest of the league." -- David
Reveal CommentAmar Campbell bt James Mcgill (Nov 3) 6-3, 6-1

Reveal CommentDavid Martyn bt Amar Campbell (Oct 30) 6-1, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "Always great to play Amar who had just come up a couple of groups having won his last one in some style. My serving was very consistent in the first set and Amar struggled a bit to find his usual rhythm. The second set was a lot closer as Amar’s well tuned tennis brain started to work out my weaknesses and he became a very threatening presence at the net. The scores would have got even closer if we had gone to a third. Amar embodies the fun and respectful spirit of the leagues and is a pleasure to spend a couple of hours with on a rainy Sunday morning." -- David

Breaks of serve all over the place in the first and the tiebreak could obviously have gone either way. We were running out of time for the second set, and I think that made me relax a bit more with my groundstrokes and my serve, as I was thinking there was no way we'd manage another tiebreak set.
