All 3 sets were tied at 4-4 and could have gone either way. Very glad to have come back from 2-4 down in both 2nd and 3rd sets to steal a win. Hopefully, more like these matches to come, Stephen! Player Comments:

  • "A really enjoyable and very close two hour match tonight indoors at Scotstoun. We were pretty evenly matched and the result could just as easily have gone the other way - Gytis let me off the hook somewhat in both the tie-break second set and ultimate tie-break for the deciding set. Thanks Gytis, I look forward to playing you again!"  -- Nicola

Player Comments:

  • "A tense and windblown match. Thanks, Barnaby for coming to Langside and running, er, like the wind all over the court. Tactics had to be completely different whether playing into or behind the wind. Not much separated us. Good luck in the rest of your games. "  -- Alasdair

Player Comments:

  • "A very enjoyable match played on a calm but dreich Sunday morning with some good long rallies and close games. I think it's fair to say the damp conditions suited my game more than Barbaby's. Thanks Barnaby for the game and for coming out to Strathgryffe."  -- Nicola

Reveal CommentAlasdair Duke bt Nicola Henderson (Apr 12) 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "A very good game with lots of long rallies. The low bounce at Strathgryffe and blustery conditions invited a lot of net play and slice, which brought out some great rallies and excellent shots from both of us. I benefited more from the windy conditions than Nicola did. Nicola was unlucky not to win the second set which could have gone either way."  -- Alasdair
Reveal CommentStephen Reynolds bt Barnaby Webb (Apr 10) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "A really nice hit with Barnaby at Woodend on Easter Monday. Conditions were very windy which caused us both problems. Barnaby had a foot in a lot of games and on another day the score would have been very different. Well played Barnaby and the best of luck for your remaining matches."  -- Stephen
Gytis Leliuga bt James Bruce (Apr 8) 7-5, 6-4
Reveal CommentAlasdair Duke bt James Bruce (Apr 7) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "A much closer game than the score suggests, especially in the first set where the vast majority of games went to deuce. Throughout the match there were a lot of long rallies with good movement around the court. James and I are both similar players, both mixing slice and topspin, deep shots and shorter balls. Home advantage helped me. I owe James a rematch at Drumchapel."  -- Alasdair
Reveal CommentStephen Reynolds bt Alasdair Duke (Apr 4) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "It was really nice to see you again Alasdair. Thanks for inviting me over to Langside. We had some really good and long rallies which you win your fair share of. Well played again."  -- Stephen
Reveal CommentBarnaby Webb bt James Bruce (Apr 2) 6-7 (1-7), 6-2, 7-6 (8-6)

Player Comments:

  • "Absolutely epic match that could have gone either way. A seesaw first set saw an early break from me quickly shutdown with a double break back from James who looked as if he would take it easily but a break back saw us go to a breaker where James went into lockdown mode and waltzed it. Second set momentum swing to me saw a quick lead translate into winning it and onto a third where James powered into a 5-2 lead. I somehow saved 2 match points on serve at 5-2 down and then broke back. Inevitably it ended in another breaker and luck was on my side. Really super match!"  -- Barnaby

I didn’t hold and momentum then swung to Kenny who took set. 2nd set mostly went my way before we played a deciding close 3rd set tie break which I managed to scrape over the line. Looking forward to meeting again in future round."  -- Charlie

Player Comments:

  • "A very competitive match against Scott, in which we both had spells where we dominated in the first two sets. Once into the third, it could have gone either way. I took a 5-2 lead but unsurprisingly Scott pushed me all the way until I managed to close out to win 6-4. An absolute pleasure to play Scott, who has been in amazing form in our league. Look forward to playing again."  -- Charles

Player Comments:

  • "First time we had played in 2 years. Last time Giacomo won. Tonight went my way. Drop shots were all coming off and serve was good. Both of us struggled with conditions at times as outdoor courts at Scotstoun can be a bit of a nightmare in spring evening as sun shines directly down court blinding each of us in turn … look forward to next match. Player Comments:

  • "A really competitive match with Francesco, with lots of rallies, winners, and twists and turns. Everything seemed to click for me today, and I managed to come back from 3-0 to take the first set. I then took an early lead in the second set, before Francesco broke back making it 4-3. I then won the second set after lots of deuce games. Francesco’s been in great form, and had a brilliant league group - I’ll look forward to playing again. "  -- Charles

Reveal CommentGamal Haddou bt Rami Zaatari (May 19) 6-0, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "A fun game with Rami where we played speed tennis before the courts closed at 9pm. It took him the first set to warm up and some of his better shots gave Rami an early lead in the 2nd. But a combination of us rushing and my fewer mistakes managed to regain the lead and finish at a fair 6-3. In the first set Rami was unlucky not to win a few deuce points. Good luck with the next round and whatever division you end up."  -- Gamal

Reveal CommentGamal Haddou bt Charlie Connelly (May 5) 6-3, 2-6, [10-5]

Player Comments:

  • "An unusual game with Charlie of opposite performances (and a shame the tennis app crashed as the stats would have been interesting).. First set went to 5-0 but perseverance and concentration gave Charlie 3 games in a row before ending at 6-3. The 3 games run of play continued into the 2nd set and I just could not fully get into the game with Charlie playing more attackingly and winning more of my cautious defensive rallies. We then chose a tie break as time was running out for the 3rd set. I took at early lead to 3-0 and managed to keep ahead to the end. It was a shame to lose on the tie break and another day the score for that could have been different."  -- Gamal

Player Comments:

  • "Another good spirited game with Scott and both of us wanting to move up a division. The scoreline did not reflect the closeness of many games going to deuce but too many errors helped me take a lead. Scott had some clever positioned serves at a wide angle pushing me out to the side nets getting a few aces this way. An enjoyable evening game and will be exciting to see who in the group progresses to div 3."  -- Gamal

Reveal CommentCharlie Connelly bt Bisher Dayani (Apr 25) 6-3, 4-6, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Tough match tonight. Low sun caused havoc in first set with each of us struggling to see ball when facing west. Bisher got off to a flyer in 2nd set before I fought back to take a 4-3 lead before losing 3 games in a row to lose set. I was really struggling to see the ball at this point as floodlights hadn’t yet came on… with floodlights to help us track ball 3rd set was closer than score suggests and I was delighted to get this one over the line. Once Bisher gets his serve sorted I’m sure he’ll pick up more games and matches. Good luck in rest of round. "  -- Charlie

  • "Conditions were perfect with no rain or wind where we both travelled to Paisley. Kenny immediately won the first 3 points but that initial game went to deuce. From there too many errors game me the general advantage overall. Some excellent flashes of winning shots were too good to return but with fewer errors the score would have been much closer and gone to 3 sets. e.g. in our extra practice 3rd set one deuce point took about 15 goes for that point to be finished. Hope we both manage to play the others in our quiet round."  -- Gamal

Player Comments:

  • "We had a tough and good natured game with lots of sportsmanship throughout. It was a windy Sunday and the conditions had to be factored into the shots. Glenn took an early lead and kept that for the 1st set. By the 2nd I had warmed up and was making fewer errors. The 3rd set was going to be about resilience with some nice winning shots from Glenn but they were not frequent enough to win the games. Thanks for the match and good luck with your remaining games."  -- Gamal

  • "Great spring night for tennis. Second time I’ve played Charles and as per first it was a tough competitive match. After trading a few games I took a 4-2 lead in 1st set only for Charles to pull that back and go on to win set. 2nd set started very even again before I managed to break serve and go on to take set. It was 9.15 pm and we were both tired having put so much into match but we decided to play 3rd set. It started very even going with serve until I broke to go 3-1 up. From there I had the momentum and went on to take set and match. Great match played in good friendly competitive spirit. Look for ward to playing again. Good luck in rest of your matches.
