Collapse AllGreenwich Singles - Round 40 | Thursday 3 September 2020 to Wednesday 28 October 2020 (Midpoint: Wednesday 30 September 2020)

Great to have 7 groups again and lots of tennis played across the board although some groups were busier than others! Overall just under half of all possible matches were played and some of our debutants were in the thick of the action finishing top of their groups or runner up! Well done for coping with the usual range of weather conditions and we hope you'll join us again next time!

Group Summary:

There was a new face at the top of Group 1 as Carlos took the title on his Leagues debut, winning all 6 matches to finish 2 points clear of newly promoted Tian. Carlos' closest match was against Alex but he maintained his clean sheet in terms of not dropping a set, while third placed Adrian had a real battle on his hands against Alex but recovered from losing a close opening set tiebreak to win in 3 sets. Alex's hard work was rewarded with a hard fought win against Martin.

Group Summary:

This was a fairly quiet group with several matches unplayed but the top 2 spots were closely contested nonetheless... and congratulations to Carsten for finishing as champ a single point clear of runner up Lateef. Both were quickly out of the starting blocks to earn midway bonus points too and their head to head was a good 3 set tussle with Lateef coming out on top. Our 'Match of the Group' has to be George's thrilling 3 set win over Lateef though, a "tough tough game of tennis that lasted 2.5hours"... phew!

We had different scores in the third set, whereas I thought to have lost the match 4-6 Chris believed the score was 5-5, which good fairplay by him he wanted to keep playing and was unlucky to lose in the end. Seems to be always close 3 sets against Chris, enjoyed the match, thanks."  -- Carsten

Both set could have gone either way. We saw lots of swings in the match as well. Richard was 3-0 up in the second set before I started building momentum. There was a bit of sunshine at the beginning for the Match and then the wind started and at 4-3 in the second set the rain started. But we managed to still complete the match. Thoroughly enjoyed the game. Thanks Richard. "  -- Lateef

Elsewhere Benedict recorded a solid win against Paul... and we hope Kevin's recovered from accidentally hitting himself in the head in his match against Paul!
