Player Comments:

  • "Both sets followed the same format. Tim dominated the early games with some great matchplay and superior range of shots. After hanging in there I managed to relax the shoulders, hit some winners and take the last couple of games to pinch the set. A bit lucky to win both sets but I will take it!! Cheers Tim. Player Comments:

  • "An good match on a nice sunny afternoon at the Allt -Yr-Yn tennis club. I started fast racing out to a 5-0 lead eventually securing set 6-2. The 2nd set was evenly poised at 3-3 but some big serves and forehands Will powered to the 2nd set 6-4. We played a champions tiebreak to decide the match I managed to edge ahead eventually securing it 10-3. Really enjoyable match, nice to meet you Will. Hope to play again another time. Cheers David"  -- David
Reveal CommentNick Jones bt Tim Lewis (May 16) 6-3, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "An enjoyable match that was hard fought at times, with some good exchanges from the back. Going in, I half expected to be chasing down Tim's perfectly weighted lobs and caught by crafty drop shots but he switched the script and dictated the point play with some aggressive flatter forehands more often than not. In the first set, games were tight but I made fewer errors overall and took a 5-1 lead. To his credit Tim didn't give up and pressed at the tail end to win 2 more games but I eventually found a better service game to clinch it . Tim went 3-1 up in the second and could easily have run away with the set but I pulled us back to 3-3 and then it was nip and tuck all the way to 6-4. Well played Tim - 'till the next time! Player Comments:

  • "Will opted to receive which turned out to be a good decision, getting the early break. I broke back to level things and then held serve for a change of pattern. With some offensive forehands and some lucky net cords I was able to stay out in front. I made the most of the home advantage and Will was caught off guard a few times by the higher bounce. In the second set, Will upped the pace of his serves to good effect, sending down some absolute corkers. There were longer points and more deuce games. Will held serve at 5-2 and looked to be mounting a late charge which I was just able to fend off. Fortunately we managed to wrap up before the gym/dance class music got turned up to 11. Good fun and look forward to playing again. Thanks Will."  -- Nick

Player Comments:

  • "Another day, another epic! A nip and tuck first set where breaks were exchanged until David got the crucial one at 5-4 to take the first. David took a 3-0 lead in the second before I found my first serve and got back ahead and managed to serve it out. A crucial double break in the third was just about enough for me to get over the line, although David broke back twice and played some great tennis all the way to the final game! Thanks David I really enjoyed the match. "  -- Mark

Player Comments:

  • "A two and a half hour classic that everyone in attendance will remember for years to come. It’s just a shame there was no one there except Mike and myself! A 4-1 lead for me in the first set disappeared almost as quickly as it appeared before I took it 6-4. Mike dominated set 2 with an early double break and some good serving. Set 3 was a match in itself that lasted an hour, we exchanged breaks early on but I got the crucial break at 4-3 before struggling to serve it out! Thanks for the game Mike! "  -- Mark
Reveal CommentDavid Anyinsah bt Tim Lewis (May 3) 6-4, 4-6, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Great match played at the Newport tennis centre lots of long games with many going to deuce, the first set was nip and tuck with both holding serve all the way until 4-4 when i got the crucial break to take the first set 6-4. We reached 4-4 in the 2nd set but this time Tim stepped got the crucial break to take it 6-4. It was quite a tussle in the 3rd set Tim racing out to a 3-1 league, time was ticking and the tennis centre was due to shut! I managed to get the break and hold to level at 3-3 when we had to halt the match at a crucial stage. We returned several days later at 3-3 and i managed to close it out 6-3. Was a tough situation to restart the match I was relieved to get over the line. Great match Tim, enjoyed it."  -- David

Player Comments:

  • "A great match (6-1 1-6 9-7) I started the match taking the first set 6-1 in blistering heat at the Newport tennis centre where the heating was on leading to some literally breathless rallies in the first set! In the 2nd set Nick really dug in and upped his levels racing out to a 4-1 lead he closed out the 2nd set in style taking it 6-1. In an epic 3rd set, I raced out to leads of 4-1 and then 5-2 and was staring victory in the face. Nick played some great tennis to to get back to 5-5. Nick took a 7-6 lead in the 3rd set to lead for the 1st time in the match, I got it back to 8-7 finally securing the match 9-7 with a lucky net cord on match point. Shame to end that way but was a great match cheers Nick"  -- David
Reveal CommentMark Thomas bt Tim Lewis (Apr 25) 6-4, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "A very long 2 sets with 5 breaks of serve in each set and multiple deuce games. I started well to go 4-1 up but Tim played some great tennis to pull it back to 4-4 before the crucial break secured me the opening set. The second set was almost a mirror image with Tim ahead 4-0 with a double break. I managed to get back on level terms at 5-5 before breaking to win the set and match at 5-6. A really enjoyable match. Thanks Tim"  -- Mark
Reveal CommentMark Thomas bt Nick Jones (Apr 23) 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "A close match that really could have gone either way. Nick claimed the early break for a 2-0 lead, but I managed to pull the score back to 4-4 and then claim a break to take the opener 6-4. Breaks were exchanged early in the second but thankfully I managed to claim the double break when Nick was serving at 3-5 so I didn’t have to serve out the match. Nick uncharacteristically struggled at times with his second serve, and I’m sure that with a few less double faults we would certainly have been reporting a different match outcome! "  -- Mark
