  • "I always look forward to playing David in the league and although this match didn't confirm to our usual 3 set format it was still a cracker. David took an early 3-0 lead, serving well and adapting to new balls and humid conditions well. I did just enough to say in but still found myself 4-2 down. Somehow by chasing down shorter balls, deeper returns and the occasional half-decent volley I managed to win the next 4 games to take the set. I never felt on top in the rallies and David's solid groundstrokes kept me pinned back. The second set followed the same patten of games (David went 3-0 up and then 4-2) but had higher quality exchanges and points for the highlight reel. Great fun and winner determined by small margins. Well played sir!"  -- Nick

  • "Most of the 3 hour match is a blur that I can't really remember. Breaks were exchanged early in the first, but I got the decisive break before serving it out. A similar story in the second set but I failed to serve out at the match at 6-5 before Nick deservedly took the tiebreak. The third set was all Nick early on, he took the early break and held a few service games relatively easily, but I managed to find a bit of energy and some better tennis to break twice including the crucial break at 4-5 to save me from having to serve it out. I think that's how it went! Thanks for a great match Nick"  -- Mark

  • "Yes, we were those idiots who played tennis on the hottest day in the history of the world( since records began etc) so thankfullly it was only 2 sets, but they managed to feel like 5. I broke in the first game, David broke back for 4-4 but I managed to break again and serve out the first set. The second set was even more up and down for both of us, probably as the conditions started to take their toll. I broke at 4-3 but David broke back when I served for the match, 2 holds of serve and it was tiebreak time. I got a few early mini breaks and David made a few too many errors which made the score line look more comfortable than it felt. Thanks for another great match David! "  -- Mark

  • "Finally I get to write one of these!!! Will, first of all, thanks for hosting. Perfect tennis weather and nice to play on a different surface. It was also a nice surprise to realise we used to play football with each other. Recently, I have a tendency to lose winning leads at the business ends of sets and this was looking all too familiar. After dropping another 5-3 lead on my serve it went to a dreaded tie break. Again I went shooting ahead but Will came back and played the better tennis. Luckily I managed to edge it. In the second set Will's serve and ground shots kicked into overdrive and he served aces (at Will) racing to a 2-0 lead. He inspired me to find my own serve and as tennis sometimes goes, I won 6 games in a row. Thanks Mike"  -- Michael

  • "Another enjoyable hard hitting battle with Mike. Everything went with serve until Mike took the first break and then held to lead 4-2. I was able to hold serve and then steal the break back to tie us up at 4-4. Some tight games with multiple deuces at the business end but it was Mike's serve that began to falter a little and after a few doubles I was able to break to take the first 7-5. The second had plenty of fast paced baseline exchanges. I always forget what a great backhand down the line Mike can hit under pressure and he reminded me too often hitting some superb passing shots. Really enjoyed this battle. Look forward to the next hit Mike. "  -- Nick

  • "Multiple deuce games in the first set tell more of the story than the actual score line of 6-0. Will played well, his first serve percentage just wasn’t as high as he would have liked though so I was able to stay in touch on his service games and managed to break serve 3 times. The second set was completely different, Will served really well throughout and started winning his serve much more easily, until the 4-5 game where a few double faults helped me over the line. Nice to meet you Will, good luck with the rest of your matches "  -- Mark

  • "Great to play Will again and return to my old club (20+ years on !) on a very muggy but pleasant summer afternoon. I really enjoyed the artificial grass courts which give a nice skip to the ball when you catch the lines with serve. This match was a tale of two sets both completely different. In the first, Will's suffered a pretty low percentage of 1st serve's and made a number of double faults. I was able to return aggressively and hold serve. To his credit Will completely reset his serve upping the percentage and speed which seemed to give confidence to his groundstrokes. Some longer enjoyable rallies and everything went with serve until I managed to break at 5-4 to take the set and match. Good luck for the rest of the matches Will! "  -- Nick

  • "A very enjoyable start to this round! A highly competitive first set where there were a few breaks and momentum swings. Callum started off serving big and I just managed to get on the returns enough to stay in touch. The tie breaker was a short affair but a fair result with Callum coming forward and volleying well to close out the big points when it mattered. We're both not too sure what happened in the second set, I found a little extra on the returns that were deep enough to give Callum some trouble and served well. We resumed the match on Sunday just before our doubles match together. Callum played well but his serve was misfiring and without his biggest weapon I was able to break serve consistently. Look forward to the next match Cal."  -- Nick

  • "A really exciting match today against Callum with some breathtaking points with back and forth exchanges on the baseline and at net. Callum got an early break and led 2-1 but i managed to get some momentum broke back and went on a good run to take the set 6-2. Callum was serving really big in the 2nd set and playing well on return he broke early to lead 2-0 and secured a double break to lead 4-1. The second set saw us fully warmed up and mid set there were some really exciting rallies. I managed to get a break back at 4-2 and hold for 4-3. We then played a long deuce game that i won to level at 4-4. I held for 5-4 and then got the decisive break to close it out 6-2 6-4. Thanks Callum really enjoyable match hope to play again soon."  -- David

  • "over 2 hours of play with the match deadlocked at 1 set a piece. A really gruelling 2 sets, i managed to win a high quality first set 7-6 but Mike stuck in and played really well in the 2nd set we went back and forth getting to 4-4 in the 2nd set Mike got the decisive break and then held to take it 6-4. We started the 3rd set i was 1-0 up and Mike was 40-0 up on his service game before we needed to vacate the court. We completed the final set Mike took the first 2 games to lead 2-1. He led 3-2 I got a slice of luck in game 5 to level at 3-3. I won the last 3 games to win it 6-3. Good game Mike hope to plat again soon"  -- David

  • "Another game played in good spirit. It was nice to meet Matt. The game was played in extreme heat. The first set was good and Matt showed some spirit in the beginning but after pressing a bit harder I was able to break his serve twice for a 6-2 finish. In the second he seemed to lose energy a bit and I was able to break straight away and then his serve broke down and I was able to break twice more for a 6-0 finish. Well done Matt I wish you good luck with the rest of your games. "  -- Rafael

  • "A well fought match which I started quickly by breaking serve and then holding serve Then we exchanged games before I broke serve again to make it 4-1 Then I held serve to make it 5- 2 before some good play by Matt to break my serve to love. I then broke straight back to take the 1st set It was a good 1st set with some good ground strokes being played, managed to pick up a few points by using approach and volley/overhead The 2nd set started with a long 1st game before Matt broke my serve, then I broke back straight away then hold serve and break again to make it 4-1 before some good wide serve/ plus 1 combinations by Matt saw him take the 6th game to make it 4-2 We then exchanged service games before I served out the match "  -- Tim

  • "It was nice to play against Ed. It was a game played with good atmosphere and He is a nice guys. He has a good game. As he has not played for a while he was a bit rusty. He would benefit from getting someone to have a knock with and he will be playing really well in no time. The first set was quick and my serve was giving him a lot of trouble. He doubled faulted a few times to give me a advantage. We had a few closer games in the second as he started to few more confident but the lack of match play played at my advantage and I was able to break his serve one last time to close the match 6-0/6-0. Well done Ed and good luck with the rest of your matches. "  -- Rafael

  • "A very tough match played in good spirit, a close 1st set having a couple of service breaks each way be fre Raf asserted himsealf with some fast and heavy serves to take 1st set. A closer and hard fought 2nd set, with both players holding serve with few deuces being played and some fine ground strokes being hit. We decided to play a 10 point tie break for 3rd set as it was almost time for the centre to close, Raf took an early break and then held his serve throughout the tie break , taking some more mini breaks until finally serving out with his signature serve of a fast slice to the body. Well done Raf and Good luck with your remaining matches"  -- Tim
