Collapse AllHighbury Fields Singles - Round 65 | Thursday 3 October 2019 to Wednesday 27 November 2019 (Midpoint: Wednesday 30 October 2019)

Another great round ends. Thank you for braving our wettest ever November and getting so many matches set up and played. That's it for 2019 but the new round starts bright and early in the New Year. For now, thank you for all your support this round and over the past 65 rounds. Hope you have a lovely, peaceful holiday!

Group Summary:

Rory and Christopher tied on points at the top of the table and if the prize were to go to the player who had battled through the most three-set marathons, perhaps Christopher would be our champ this time. But one of those epics was against Rory and Rory edged it - that head-to-head gives him his first-ever Highbury Fields Singles Group One win! A brilliant performance in a group jam-packed with great tennis (and not least from Vivek who was also in the running for top spot but has to make do with the bronze).

Player Comments:

  • "Potentially the craziest match of tennis I have ever played in. Conditions were tricky with a slippy court but there were some ridiculous rallies and retrievals especially in the later stages of the match. Jack was in control for most of the first two sets but I managed to fight back and scrape through the second set. Jack went 3-0 up in the third set but I managed to clinch the final set 7-5 in a match that swung back and forth throughout and could have gone either way. There were some incredible 20+ point rallies in a very hard fought contest. Jack played some really nice backhand ground strokes and has possibly the best drop shot I've ever played against. Thanks for the great game. "  -- Christopher

  • "A great and very competitive marathon match against Byron. It had a bit of everything - some long rallies, good winners and also some pretty nervy unforced errors. It could’ve easily gone either way with both of us missing a lot of break points deep into the third set, but eventually somebody had to win :D Thanks for the game!"  -- Velislav

A nod too to Christopher who earned points in matches lost to make sure he was in the running too and earns the bronze. Well played all.

With Matthew and Eddie jousting for top spot you would expect their head-to-head to have been crucial, but it turned out to be the player who played the most tennis who would have edge this time. Player Comments:

  • "Fantastic game with Jordan on Sunday afternoon at Clissold park. We played a competitive match with many games going to deuce. Jordan was superior at the net and overall, we also had good court coverage despite the windy weather. Thank you so much for an enjoyable game Jordan."  -- Rad
