Player Comments:

  • "Really good hit with Jack under the lights at Highbury. I was very fortunate to nick the tie break. Conditions were tricky. We played in 2 degree fog and Highbury Fields seemed like Sleepy Hollow as the mist swept across the court. It will be interesting to see how the Highbury courts weather the winter. The fog left them damp and pretty slippery, but there were also signs of moss over much of the court. Hopefully the excellent ground staff can keep that under control. "  -- Andre

Group Summary:

This was a busy group with lots of matches played and five close 3 set scorelines, and it was tight at the top too with Carl and Brett both tied on 8 points from 3 wins apiece. Sadly the two hadn't played their head to head yet so instead the title went to Carl as one of Brett's wins was a walkover. Congrats also to Carl and James for battling through "atrocious English weather" and the added hazard of "kids running onto our court" to complete an exciting 3 set tussle!

Player Comments:

  • "It was a wet & potentially storm day – and was almost cancelled due to the atrocious English weather Within the first 5 mins, we decided to play Sadly for Carl, this meant being 5-1 down! There was a bit of an Aussie battling back action, though James was just too good The 2nd set issues: kids running onto our court, changing courts & our balls were now becoming very wet & heavy All of this was much for James & he lost Now the 3rd and final set! The new challenges were our balls where now muddy & with the cold creeping into our muscles & bones, it was a set of endurance! It ended in a tie-break that resulted in 10-8! A game and match that had more twist and turns than a Shakespearean drama Amazing play by James - thank you!!"  -- Carl

Player Comments:

  • "Lovely to be back playing league tennis - albeit a bit slippy underfoot. A slightly tetchy first set as we literally found our feet! This is reflected in the score. Next sets were more expansive in style and bizarrely we both dominated a set each. Jamie is strong at the net, has a good return of serve, and is a willing runner! Good luck for the next matches."  -- Brett
