"Thank you for the congrats. Group winning tastes like the best lager!  Thank you Sally and Nigel for being good organisers. Good job.  I plan to rejoin our leaque in September,"

Waldemar Kapkowski

"I have thoroughly enjoyed playing in the local league. It really fits my work hours now where I can arrange the matches myself. I had given up on singles a number of years ago and was accepting that I needed to be younger and fewer ladies were interested in singles anyway. If I was going to get back into tennis since I moved jobs, I realised it would have to be singles and so far I have been surprised,"

Mary Crawford

"Very enjoyable, all played with good attitude and spirit in nice surroundings. Thanks to all concerned,"

Fred Woollard

"I definitely improved over the course of the round,"

Dan Davies

"Thank you for organising the competition. It was very enjoyable, "

Nick Anthony

"Big congratulations on an excellent league set up, the reports posted on the Internet and match reports, married alongside your very good e-mail updates enhance the league no end, and adds considerably to the overall enjoyment factor of the games,"

Rob Fratel

Reveal CommentAvery Jackson bt Daniel Peck (Jul 31) 7-5, 4-6, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "This match started in bright sunshine but with a bit of rain and windy conditions made it a tricky day for us. Daniel started well and was more consistent in the first but at 6-5 Avery managed to close it out with a flurry of cross court shots. The second was much of the same and with both players feeling the heat Daniel stepped up his game to close out in a tough and gruelling set. The third set was more of the same and after 3 hours we were both operating on empty. Another tough but enjoyable encounter in a very close contest."  -- Avery
Reveal CommentCharles Fulcher bt Avery Jackson (Jul 24) 7-6 (7-4), 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Match played on the grass in windy conditions, which resulted in 2 breaks of serve in a tight first set, which went to a tiebreak which Charlie won from 3.1 down 7.4. the second set Charlie got a early break Avery tired and could not break back, great tennis as always Avery"  -- Charles
Reveal CommentAvery Jackson bt Xin Chen (Jul 17) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Another enjoyable game of tennis in the sweltering heat. We had longer breaks during the match which helped. A close match despite the scores with longer rallies and very close games which could have gone either way. The match was played in good spirits throughout and was thoroughly enjoyable despite the heatwave "  -- Avery
Reveal CommentCharles Fulcher bt Xin Chen (Jul 10) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "2 tight sets that were closer than the score suggests, opening 3 games all went to lots of duces.thanks for the good game."  -- Charles
Reveal CommentCharles Fulcher bt Daniel Peck (Jul 3) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "a close match with both sets being very close to start with at 2.2 and 3.3 , lots of long rallies and Dan played well."  -- Charles
Reveal CommentDaniel Peck bt Xin Chen (Jun 27) 6-1, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Apart from a fairly strong crosswind the conditions were perfect at Kesgrave with a mix of cloud and sunshine. Daniel started well, taking a 4-0 lead and holding onto the first set from there. There were several well played points from both but the wind did also hamper many points with the ball blowing away or towards us making some shots difficult to control. The 2nd set was started much better from Xin who took a 2-0 lead and really started controlling the points well, but Daniel managed to get onto the scoreboard before long and at 3-3 was able to see out the last couple of games before an injury to Xin made it impossible for him to finish strongly. "  -- Daniel
Reveal CommentDaniel Peck bt Nick Anthony (Jun 19) 6-3, 5-7, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "The first set was a close one with quite a few long rallies, Daniel edging away from 3-3 to take the last 3 games of the set. Nick got off to a flyer in the second, taking a 3-0 lead and then a 4-2 lead which Daniel then brought back to 5-5, only for Nick to steal it with some great forehands and drop shots 7-5. The final set was close in terms of game scores and also rallies with some good shots from both and Nick forcing Daniel to run to all areas of the court in some points. The recent match practice really helped to see this one through without getting too tired. Good match. "  -- Daniel
Avery Jackson bt Nick Anthony (Jun 12) 6-2, 4-6, 7-5

Match Results:

Reveal CommentJames Mower bt Philippa Cowie (Aug 2) 7-6 (7-4), 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "The first set was very closely contested, with James clinching an early break but Pip consistently responding on her serve to keep the advantage to a minimum. It was no surprise when the set went to a tie-break, and Pip stormed to a 4-1 lead. However, James fought back, winning six points on the bounce to claim the set. James took the confidence from this into the second set and had soon built a 4-1 lead of his own. Pip then won three of the next four games for a chance to level the set, but James found a fortuitous lob on match point to close out a very entertaining encounter."  -- James
Reveal CommentTim Bowman bt James Mower (Jul 22) 6-4, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "In a match played in near-perfect, sweltering conditions, both players produced a good level of tennis, resulting in some well contested and entertaining rallies. Tim's superior fitness levels were a key factor in the first set, as he chased down every ball, showing that he didn't know the meaning of a 'lost cause'! Although James built a small lead in the second set, Tim found more consistency on the crucial points to close out the match. A very enjoyable two sets of tennis!"  -- James
Rafa Alonso bt Josh Francis (Jul 16) 6-0, 6-1
Reveal CommentRafa Alonso bt Tim Bowman (Jul 15) 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "An exhausting game! Really enjoyed playing with Tim, we both have a very similar style which made every point a battle, with long rallies and constant deuces where the game could have gone either way. Looking forward to playing again, thank you Tim!"  -- Rafa
Reveal CommentPhilippa Cowie bt Rafa Alonso (Jul 8) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Great match on a humid evening at Christchurch Park. First set started well with both players holding their serve in the first four games, where a couple were back and forth deuces. Rafa admitted he lost his confidence and Pip kept pushing to take the next 6 games to win the set and get a lead in the second. Rafa fought back well to bring the score level, but Pip was able to kick away again to close out the match. Excellent points throughout with some long rallies and incredible ball retrievals. Rafa certainly kept making me have to play that one extra shot! Thanks for the game and looking forward to the next."  -- Philippa
Reveal CommentDavid Sendall bt Josh Francis (Jul 2) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Both of us started well with all games going with serve up to 2-2. Then I managed to go into the lead after breaking to lead 3-2, breaking again later to take the set. The second set saw a lot of deuce games, but all went my way as I took a 5-0 lead. Credit to Josh as he saved 2 match points and took 3 games in a row. I managed to hold serve to win the set 6-3. Well played Josh. A really enjoyable match."  -- David
Reveal CommentDavid Sendall bt Rafa Alonso (Jul 1) 6-4, 3-6, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Rafa and I met in the last round. It was close that time, but this one was even tighter and turned into a bit of a marathon. Both players started well with games going with serve until game 5. Then 3 service breaks on the bounce saw me edge in front. That was just enough for me to take the first set. Set 2 saw Rafa come back and deservedly take the second set. Both players knew it as going to be a long evening at this point! The third set saw Rafa take a 3-0 lead and 0-40 up on my serve. This proved to be a turning point as I fought back to win the game. I managed to then take 5 of the next 6 games, which were all close, to claim a narrow victory. Thanks for the match Rafa."  -- David
Reveal CommentPhilippa Cowie bt Josh Francis (Jun 30) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "A grey day at CCP for this one, but both keen to play despite the rain that threatened. The points were great straight from the off with Pip holding serve. The next game entertained passers by with at least 4 deuces swinging between the players' favours before Pip managed to claim it too. The whole match pretty much continued in this vein with Pip able to hold nerve to see every game through. Great to match up against Josh again where his play certainly should have earned him more than the final score. Thank you and good luck with your last couple of games!"  -- Philippa
Reveal CommentTim Bowman bt Josh Francis (Jun 23) 7-6 (7-5), 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "We both got off to a slow start and that pretty much continued throughout the whole match. Both played very slow cautious tennis and you could flip a coin there was that little between us - Tim just about shaded it. We are about the same standard so I think this dictated the style of play as we both seemed to not want to lose rather than go all out and win. Having said that I look forward to playing Josh in the future and good luck with the other games. Tim "  -- Tim
Reveal CommentPhilippa Cowie bt David Sendall (Jun 21) 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "A surprise drizzle greeted us at the Kesgrave courts, but both agreed to give it a go and it certainly didn't seem to affect either of us too much! Most of the early games went to deuce, but tipped in favour of the receiver up to 3-3. Pip managed to hold serve, which proved crucial as the next three service games were also broken to close 6-4 in Pip's favour. Set 2 started in similar fashion to the first, but it was David who held this time and led 3-1. Pip held her own and continued this momentum, winning the next 5 games and the match. Great game again with David, this being the third time we've played in LTL. Both had some excellent ball retrievals and winners, but points often boiled down to who made the first error. Bring on next time!"  -- Philippa
Reveal CommentPhilippa Cowie bt Tim Bowman (Jun 19) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "The rain held off for our match and we were both thankful of the cooler weather for the runaround we got! Match started strong with Tim's serve taken to deuce, but Pip able to get the crucial points in the end. Lots of long rallies with both players moving each other around the court and retrieving some unbelievable balls! Great match, Tim and thoroughly enjoyed."  -- Philippa
Reveal CommentJames Mower bt Josh Francis (Jun 19) 1-6, 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "In tricky conditions on a slick surface, Josh adapted more quickly, comfortably winning the first set with his higher level of consistency. James responded well at the start of the second set as he began to find his range (and react to Josh's drop shots!). The seventh game proved crucial, with James eventually holding his serve after numerous deuces and going on to win seven games in a row. Despite a late rally from Josh, James held off his challenge to close out the match."  -- James

Reveal CommentJorunas Barzdzius bt Ashley Miller (Jul 3) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Starting a match by wining first few games kept me conscious as Ashley always used to find a way to brake through and soon he proved it leveling a score. His aggressive game at the net didn't score him much points but playing from the base line we had really nice rallies usually ending with prolonged deuces. Good first serves and couple nice drop shots kept me ahead in the game and win a match. Another enjoyable match with Ashley but this time with the taste of victory. Thank you Ashley and good luck in other games."  -- Jorunas
Reveal CommentCharlie Law bt Claire Ellis (Jul 1) 6-0, 6-0

  • "A really fun game and Claire has a mean return of serve, hope I can play a mixed doubles with her on my team and CRUSH the opposition! "  -- Charlie
Reveal CommentBrian Todd bt Jorunas Barzdzius (Jul 1) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Playing in the wet is a different game! We did our best to run around the court and had some good points without falling over. We wrecked our balls but didn't lose any. A lot of fun and we ended up playing a while after too. Best wishes "  -- Charlie
Reveal CommentCharlie Law bt Brian Todd (Jun 26) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Such a fun game in the sun! We played some really long points but I think my regular playing came good in the end as Brian hadn't played for a while. A great sport though and he's got all his strokes down and I'm sure he will do great in the rest of his matches."  -- Charlie
Reveal CommentAshley Miller bt Claire Ellis (Jun 25) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "An overcast but muggy summer's evening with the threat of drizzle in the air. Claire started well to hold serve before Ashley drew level and the set progressed with several good rallies until Ashley eventually closed it out. The second set was more of the same, although several of Claire's shots clipped the net cord, before dropping unfavourably, allowing Ashley to close out the second set. The drizzle did eventually arrive, although thankfully it was just as the match finished."  -- Ashley
Reveal CommentCharlie Law bt Bill Garside (Jun 24) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Some really great points! The score came out one-sided but it was a really fun game of tennis."  -- Charlie

Player Comments:

  • "The score does not reflect some of the great points we had! "  -- Charlie
Reveal CommentJorunas Barzdzius bt Bill Garside (Jun 16) 3-6, 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "On a very hot day, a very hot start from Bill by winning 3 games. With extended deuces I finally adjusted to the game losing the first set 3 - 6. Second set started by exchanging winning games with some prolonged deuces and nice rallies and really nice , clever  Bill's shots but it was worth running for each ball to win the set 6-3. The third set went in my favour 6-2 to win a match. Thank you Bill for the nice tennis, good luck with other matches."  -- Jorunas
