"I've had some excellent matches, learnt a few things about myself in relation to match play, met some nice people and made some new tennis buddies which I think is the whole idea of the League - so thank you for that.  I shall look forward to playing in the League again in January!",

Helen Challis

"I'd like to say again how much I enjoyed playing in the league. I met interesting people, and have played some good matches,"

Peter Valasek

"Very much enjoying the league, thank you for your efforts. As the old stager in this group at 52 I am playing my best tennis ever, not quite sure how I beat Hilary and Avery they are much better than me! You have done a great job with the league, encouraging participation and getting the mix right with the correct standards of players in each group,"

Nick Anthony

"Thank you very much for the organisation of the tennis leagues. I have taken part in the Ipswich Christchurch Park league for the first time this round after a long time off from playing tennis. I think this is a great way of getting to play regularly and meet new people to play. I have had great, enjoyable matches with some very friendly people. My league matches may be finished for this round but have already arranged a couple of extra games within my group of players and will definitely be entering the next round. Once again thank you for the leagues as without dedicated people like yourself this would not be possible. Very happy player," Stuart Horrex

Stuart Horrex

"I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed this round of matches and playing each of you in the group. We should also congratulate ourselves as a group, as we managed to play ALL our matches, with everything wrapped up by 1st June with 10 days to spare! I reckon that's pretty impressive with everybody leading ever-busier lives and the amount of inclement weather along the way :)  Hopefully see some or all of you in the next round :)"

Ashley Miller

"Big congratulations on an excellent league set up, the reports posted on the Internet and match reports, married alongside your very good e-mail updates enhance the league no end, and adds considerably to the overall enjoyment factor of the games,"

Rob Fratel

Reveal CommentAvery Jackson bt Marek Czuper (Jan 21) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Another competitive match with each player moving well despite the tricky surface. Marek served and volleyed well and utilised a lot of net play. The majority of the games went to deuces and were close throughout the match despite the result."  -- Avery
Reveal CommentAvery Jackson bt Andrew Wilesmith (Jan 21) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Andrew says he was a bit rusty having not played tennis for some time. What little rust was there was made up for us by his athleticism and strong ground strokes. Enjoyable match played in good spirit throughout......,"  -- Avery
Reveal CommentJoshua Crossley bt Andrew Wilesmith (Jan 14) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "A fun match with many epic rally's and highlights for both players Andrew moved effectively and made Josh work for his points however he managed a very efficient and clinical performance Thanks Andrew :)"  -- Joshua
Reveal CommentJoshua Crossley bt Polly Webb (Jan 12) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "A really fun match Having not played for a while it took a while for the rust to where off and an epic second game eventually saw Josh holding after numerous deuces Prolly was competitive throughout using a variety of slice and spins in an unconventional yet effective manner Thanks to polly for a really fun game and bringing energy on a bitterly cold morning :) "  -- Joshua
Reveal CommentAlex Rose bt Polly Webb (Jan 7) 6-0, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "The match was played in damp but suprisingly mild conditions. The first set went quite quickly with Polly struggling a little on serve. The second set was a much closer one with both players hitting better shots with one or two very long service games. "  -- Alex
Reveal CommentAvery Jackson bt Polly Webb (Dec 28) 6-0, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Polly came out prepared after opening her Christmas gifts and finding new rackets, tennis balls and trainers and was best suited for the conditions. After manoeuvring our way through the slippery surface during the first set we settled in the second with some good rallies. An enjoyable match despite the score line."  -- Avery
Reveal CommentAvery Jackson bt Waldemar Kapkowski (Dec 27) 6-4, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "After exchanging Xmas pleasantries it was business as usual at CCP. Despite the slightly slippery surface we managed to have another enjoyable match. We decided to join in with a few other guys and played doubles for another three hours. The best way to end 2016."  -- Avery
Reveal CommentJoshua Crossley bt Waldemar Kapkowski (Dec 18) 6-4, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "A match played against one of the most friendly yet fiercest competitors I have played In the warm up Josh slipped cutting his knee luckily waldemar had brought along his first aid kit! As a result Josh started the match shakedly falling behind 3-0 and then 4-2 before regaining confidence in his movement and taking the set 6-4 With the momentum Josh went to close out the second set 6-1 raising his level Many thanks to waldemar for being so friendly providing me with plasters and cleaning materials so I could play Josh :) "  -- Joshua
Reveal CommentJoshua Crossley bt Alex Rose (Dec 17) 6-4, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "A really fun match played in a foggy morning With conditions challenging both players struggled to hold serve at the start however quality was high in a tough first set Josh managed to raise his game and take control in the second set Thanks to Alex for a fun and well spirited match "  -- Joshua
Waldemar Kapkowski bt Polly Webb (Dec 11) 6-0, 6-3
Reveal CommentAvery Jackson bt Joshua Crossley (Dec 3) 6-4, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "An enjoyable encounter with one of the league more exciting and talented youngster and definitely one to watch in the future. The first set was a tough encounter with Josh racing into a three games lead and Avery failing in all departments. Avery managed to dig in and with serves and returns improving gradually managed to claw his way back to take the set. The second game saw Avery serving for the match at 5-1, but credit to Josh's dogged determination throughout the match he fought back to 5-4 and was competitive throughout..."  -- Avery

Reveal CommentStuart Horrex bt Alec Main (Jan 14) 1-6, 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Played on a cold but bright afternoon, both players started well with 1st 4 games going to deuces, although Alec ran away with 1st set playing some great tennis. 2nd set started off with Alec again taking the initiative going into 4-2 lead before Stuart upping his game and Alec's dropping off slightly, Stuart claimed the next 8 games to win 2nd set and go into 4-0 lead in the 3rd, Alec's game started to come back but the lead was to much to overcome as Stuart took out the 3rd set, was a great game with some to's and throws either way, thanks Alec."  -- Stuart
Reveal CommentMarcus Capper bt Stuart Horrex (Jan 5) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Another cold winter's night at Kesgrave, when the players arrived the court was just playable but for how long was anyone's guess. This was Stuart's 1st match in this round and after winning the toss, bravely elected to serve first. With lots of the games going to deuce it was Marcus who was able to win the critical points and ended up taking the first set 6-1. The 2nd set started with the first 4 games going against the server, finally in the 5th game Marcus was able to hold his serve and that seemed to be the decisive moment, especially as Stuart lost the rub of the green, with two shots, running along the top of the net only to fallback on his side. Despite Stuart saving several match points, Marcus took the second set 6-2. Thanks Stuart"  -- Marcus
Reveal CommentMarcus Capper bt Zelma Green (Jan 3) 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Kesgrave, bloomin cold, but not frozen. Both players were bundled up under numerous layers as they warmed up, but eventually the blood started pumping and layers were stripped back. The scoreline for the 1st set didn't reflect the closeness of the games, nearly every game went to deuce, with Marcus lucky to come out on top. The second set started with Marcus dropping his serve and then a cagey affair, again with most games going to deuce. Eventually Marcus managed to get a 4-2 lead but Zelma wasn't giving up without a fight, bringing it back to 4-3 and then saving match point to break Marcus's serve to make it 5-4. In the final game Zelma managed to save 4 match points before Marcus found a way through. Thanks Zelma was good fun."  -- Marcus
Reveal CommentTracy Ward bt Craig Sherman (Jan 2) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Thanks for the game Craig; this was my first park game in front of a crowd! I hope you enjoy your future matches. Tracy"  -- Tracy
Reveal CommentMarcus Capper bt Tracy Ward (Dec 30) 6-3, 1-6, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "A late change of venue saw the players arrive at a damp and misty Sproughton. Tracy had had the good idea to put her tennis balls on the radiator so they had bit of bounce in the cold conditions. Well to start with anyway. Tracy was first out of the blocks and took the first two games, before Marcus started to find a bit of rhythm, taking the first set 6-3 by virtue of slightly less unforced errors. In the second set, Tracy replaced errors with winners and dominated from the net winning it 6-1. When Marcus lost his serve in the opening game of the third set the pattern looked to be continuing, but he broke back straightaway and started to hit winners of his own, taking the set 6-1. A good game despite the conditions - thanks Tracy"  -- Marcus
Reveal CommentAlec Main bt Marcus Capper (Dec 28) 6-4, 3-6, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "A very competitive match played in tricky conditions with the momentum swinging from one player to the other and back again. A lot of very close games with some great rallies. Thoroughly enjoyable, Thanks Marcus "  -- Alec
Reveal CommentTracy Ward bt Alec Main (Dec 18) 2-6, 6-3, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "An interesting match with momentum switching from Alec to Tracy and back again. At 3 -3 in the third set the game was really on. Every game went to deuce, the rallies became longer and more punishing but Tracy just had a slight edge winning the final set. A good contest...Thanks Alec!"  -- Tracy
Reveal CommentZelma Green bt Craig Sherman (Dec 9) 6-0, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Craig said he was coming back to tennis after a break which it transpired trumped mine! He played some great shots demonstrating potential which I'm sure will be reflected on the scoreboard as he progresses. Craig got off to a strong start in the second set which had me worried for a while. An enjoyable match overall, thanks Craig."  -- Zelma

Reveal CommentHilary Cook bt Ankur Singhania (Jan 8) 6-3, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Fab conditions today. No sun or wind or rain or ice. Very mild, thermals not needed. Hilary started well but Ankur took advantage of some unforced errors made by Hilary and took 3 games in this set. Several games when to Deuce. There was a break and chat between the sets then Hilary took the first game of the second set and Ankur the second game. It looked like being another close set but Hilary's squash backhands thwarted Ankur. He put up a brave fight but lost the second set 6-1. It was a great match played in good spirits. Ankur has some lovely angle shots and serves. "  -- Hilary
Reveal CommentChris Smith bt Ankur Singhania (Jan 7) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Ankur is fairly new to tennis. He said he loves playing, made a few good returns of serve, with some good shots. A great effort ankur. "  -- Chris
Reveal CommentMike Bernard bt Ankur Singhania (Jan 2) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Match played in good spirit but very difficult conditions turning some points into a lottery. The low sun shone down from the South end severely hindering visibility at the North end. A banner at the same end prevented the sun from melting the ice around the baseline so very difficult and dangerous to move at this end. The banner (Court 4 - Christchurch Park) should be removed or moved elsewhere, at least in Winter. "  -- Mike
Reveal CommentMike Bernard bt Ashley Miller (Dec 31) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "A much closer match than the score suggests, enjoyable and played in good spirit. In perfect weather, Ash played some lovely deep returns onto my backhand and some beautiful volleys to take 1-0 and 2-1 leads in set 2. Unfortunately he was hampered by some double faults and I was lucky enough to be serving well and to hit some winning lobs. Thanks Ash. "  -- Mike
Reveal CommentChris Smith bt Monah Zaghloul (Dec 30) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Very difficult conditions this morning, slippery and damp with the fog. Monah hits the ball with plenty of top spin on both forehand and backhand a good effort by him. "  -- Chris
Reveal CommentHilary Cook bt Monah Zaghloul (Dec 30) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Great match. Courts were OK and there was some fog about but we managed. The first set Monah got 1 game but this does not reflect the set as there were several deuces and some great rallies. In the second set Monah struggled with his serve and gifted me points. He has some great shots and again we had some great rallies. He didn't like my squash shot backhands. A great match played in good spirits!"  -- Hilary
Reveal CommentMike Bernard bt Hilary Cook (Dec 23) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "A very enjoyable match played in good spirit on a windy Friday. Hilary has only played for a year and is already a good net player placing some lovely winning volleys. After holding out for countless deuces to win the first game of set two, Hilary made two successive unplayable service returns, each landing on the same spot on the baseline. I look forward to our next game. "  -- Mike
Reveal CommentMike Bernard bt Monah Zaghloul (Dec 22) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Monah has only played tennis for a few months but has good strength, movement, topspin and speed, particularly at the net. He reached some deuces but was unable to convert on this occasion He will undoubtedly become a good player soon with suitable coaching and practice. "  -- Mike
Reveal CommentChris Smith bt Mike Bernard (Dec 16) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "An enjoyable morning with Mike playing some good cross court winners. Thanks for the match Mike."  -- Chris
Reveal CommentChris Smith bt Hilary Cook (Dec 15) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Hilary very kindly agreed to play at Stowmarket Tennis club. We played under the dome, so no worries about, rain, wind or slippery surfaces. Hilary put up a brave fight. After the match Hilary stayed on to join our club night. So in all an enjoyable evening. Thanks Hilary for coming to our club. "  -- Chris
Reveal CommentAshley Miller bt Hilary Cook (Dec 11) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "A bright, clear morning and a somewhat cagey start, as both players lost their opening service games whilst trying to find ways of coping with the low sun. The first 5 games all went to deuce, with Ashley edging into a 4-1 lead, despite the low sun. Hilary pulled a game back before Ashley managed to close the opening set, with another 2 games going to deuce. The second set followed a similar path, with several deuce games, apart from 2 consecutive games which seemed like they belonged in another match, as both players broke serve to love. An enjoyable match and good to catch up with Hilary again, who I hadn't seen for a few years. We played another set just for fun & then it clouded over just as we finished! Did I mention the low sun?"  -- Ashley
