Player Comments:

  • "Nick and Matt played out a match closer than the score suggests at a sunny Copleston. Matt started well, matching Nick in rallies but was unable to convert winners and that was the story of the set as Nick raced to a 6-0 win. It was a different, more confident Matt in the second set. He improved his serve accuracy and picked out some ground shot winners to take a 3-1 lead. But Nick’s heavier forehands and backhand slices dragged him back and into a 4-3 lead. Matt had game points to level at 4-4 on his serve but Nick again frustrated him with another break and served out to 15 to win the match. Matt is improving all the time and future matches will only get tougher. Well played Matt, thanks for an enjoyable game."  -- Nicholas

Player Comments:

  • "Lovely evenings tennis under the lights at Kesgrave. Pushed back 24 hours after yesterday's downpour, an annoyingly timed quick shower typically made for pretty slippery conditions. Didn't dampen the quality though with both players playing great tennis. Flattering scoreline as plenty of deuces and plenty of quality points from Pip, with her passing shots being lethal (in fact I can't remember winning a point at the net). "  -- Matthew

Player Comments:

  • "Great evening at Kesgrave for our second match, Matt had played a few times at Kesgrave now, both in and outside of the league and had much more consistency than when we last met. Difference was in finishes with Pip managing to get the ball over and in on the big points. Matt had break points in the first set that he wasn't able to convert. He made up for this in the second set by saving multiple match points on his own and Pip's serve to a scoreline more fitting of the play. Thanks for another good battle and see you next round"  -- Philippa

Player Comments:

  • "A rare morning of sunshine was enjoyably used with Nick traveling up to Saxmundham for our first singles match in probably around four/five years (many league doubles meetings though in-between that time!). Always a tough player to compete with thanks to wicked spin, big net skimming forehands and crafty matchplay made for an intriguing start to the match with three breaks of serve in as many games to kick off the set. I'd be the first to hold before opening up abit more with the forehand to start spraying the ball around opening up the winners. Flattering scoreline with plenty of top rallies making for an enjoyable morning of tennis "  -- Matthew

Player Comments:

  • "A surprisingly warm and calm day for this match where we both opted for shorts and t-shirt before too long. Serves were broken on both sides until Pip managed to hold and break again to go 4-2 up. Nick broke back again before Pip went up again to 5-3 and served for the set. Not able to convert again with a few extra errors and Nick finding the angles and the lines to earn a tie-break. Pip got an early jump to lead 5-0 but on the change of ends, Nick recovered again to bring it back to 6-6. Nick hitting the ball long to tip it Pip's way. Pip started strong in the 2nd set, breaking Nick convincingly before being equally matched with a break back. Games progressed evenly with Pip managing to serve it out at 5-4 to win the match. Thanks, Nick"  -- Philippa

Player Comments:

  • "We played our match at Kesgrave club from 1 pm in windy conditions.Pip started better the first set, put pressure on my backhand and also she was very inspired at the net so after a good start Pip was leading with 51 .I managed to defend better my backhand and also I improved my passing shots so I came back and managed to win with 7562.A close match with good hitting from both players .See you next round"  -- MARIUS

Player Comments:

  • "Enjoyable mornings tennis at Carlton Park, thanks to Matt for traveling up to Saxmundham for this match. Flattering scoreline with Matt certainly ramping up his groundstrokes and serves towards the end of the second set which certainly started to cause me a few problems. "  -- Matthew
Matthew Last bt Elio Laranjinha (Jan 29) 6-0, 6-0
Reveal CommentMatthew Walczak bt Elio Laranjinha (Jan 26) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Good evening for tennis in Kesgrave, Elio has been improving rapidly, even from when I last played him in the last round, thank you for the match. I let a few service games go with some double faults, losing on duce both times, Elio's dropshots served him well in those games too, taking advantage of my poor touch at the net that day. See you in the next round Elio, cheers."  -- Matthew
