Revision information
Provide an explanation of the changes you are making. This will help other authors understand your motivations.

This is how it works:

  • Players are organised into groups of up to 8 people of a similar standard
  • Contact details are emailed
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is:

  • For everybody!
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Don't worry that you won't be good enough - playing matches is the best way to improve, and we use an online questionnaire to assess people's ability so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three sets; if a set reaches 6 games all it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group
  • Players are placed in groups according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Each player attempts to play each of the other player on their group once during the round
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls).
  • The winner of the group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winner of the group wins a certificate and tennis prizes
  • Where possible, winners of groups are promoted to the group above for the next round.

Getting started

New players will need to complete the player questionnaire before they can join a round. Once you’ve signed up, and for returning players you can join any of the upcoming rounds above.

For everything you need to know before you get started see the FAQs and review the Rules and Regulations, which all players agree to adhere to when playing in the leagues.

If there is anything else you need help with get in contact with Nigel, Sally and the team who will be happy to help!

"Thank you very much for the organisation of the tennis leagues. I have taken part in the Ipswich Christchurch Park league for the first time this round after a long time off from playing tennis. I think this is a great way of getting to play regularly and meet new people to play. I have had great, enjoyable matches with some very friendly people. My league matches may be finished for this round but have already arranged a couple of extra games within my group of players and will definitely be entering the next round. Once again thank you for the leagues as without dedicated people like yourself this would not be possible. Very happy player," Stuart Horrex

Stuart Horrex

"I definitely improved over the course of the round,"

Dan Davies

"Thank you for the congrats. Group winning tastes like the best lager!  Thank you Sally and Nigel for being good organisers. Good job.  I plan to rejoin our leaque in September,"

Waldemar Kapkowski

"Thank you for organising the competition. It was very enjoyable, "

Nick Anthony

"I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed this round of matches and playing each of you in the group. We should also congratulate ourselves as a group, as we managed to play ALL our matches, with everything wrapped up by 1st June with 10 days to spare! I reckon that's pretty impressive with everybody leading ever-busier lives and the amount of inclement weather along the way :)  Hopefully see some or all of you in the next round :)"

Ashley Miller

"I'd like to say again how much I enjoyed playing in the league. I met interesting people, and have played some good matches,"

Peter Valasek

Reveal CommentJoshua Crossley bt Daniel Peck (Jun 27) 6-3, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "A tough first set started very close with both players playing some really strong tennis and timing the ball with precision and accuracy daniel lead 3-2 with a break and was looking to take control when josh produced a moment of brilliance after chiselling out a break point when executing a half-volley backhand pickup with his back to the net which resulted in an angled drop shot winner to break straight back From there josh used the momentum to his advantage and winning three straight games to clinch the set with a backhand lob ... Winning the tough first set seemed crucial -Josh raised his game to another level playing with variety and power taking the set 6-0 A great match with very few errors from both players despite the quality "  -- Joshua
Reveal CommentTyrone Bradnam bt Daniel Peck (Jun 23) 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "A match played in cooler conditions at Christchurch Park started with both players breaking serve. Some great rally's with Daniel making use of the drop shot but it was Tyrone who pulled away taking the first set 6-1. A much tighter seconds set with both players returning and breaking serve on 3 occasions but Tyrone took advantage of the short ball and competed the second set 6-4 after Daniel had saved 4 match points."  -- Tyrone
Reveal CommentTrevor Wright bt Daniel Peck (Jun 19) 6-4, 7-6 (7-1)

Player Comments:

  • "A close match in the welcome share of the upper court at Christchurch Park. Daniel had very good serves and lots of spin that was difficult to handle. The first set was dominated by strong serving. Daniel won the toss and chose to return. However as all the games went with serve, Daniel was always serving to catch up and at 4.5 Trevor finally broke to take the set. The second set had more breaks of serve, Daniel twice forcing breaks of serve, but Trevor broke back immediately both times. Trevor finally got to 6.5, but Daniel served his way into the tie-break, twice saving set point. By then Trevor must have figured out Daniel's tricky spins, as he won the tie-break 7.1. "  -- Trevor
Reveal CommentTyrone Bradnam bt Trevor Wright (Jun 17) 3-6, 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "A very close match despite the score line suggesting otherwise . Played in the early morning heat at Christchurch Park it was Trevor who made the best start by drawing Tyrone into making errors . Tyrone took the second set and found his game by taking advantage of the short balls . Trevor never gave up and saved 7 match points but Tyrone finally closed out the set 6-0 to keep up a 100% record "  -- Tyrone
Reveal CommentNick Anthony bt Daniel Peck (Jun 17) 7-5, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • " Nick and Daniel enjoyed a close match on a sweltering morning. Daniel started sharply breaking Nick's opening serve and consistently holding to take a 4-2. lead. However Nick hit back to break at 3-4 down and again at 6-5 to. pinch the first set. Nick was broken again in the second by a determined Daniel but hit back immediately and used more power to combat Daniel's deceptive spin. At 5-3 Nick served out to love to complete a close and sporting contest. We 've R "  -- Nick
Reveal CommentAvery Jackson bt Xin Chen (Jun 17) 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Another enjoyable encounter with Xin at BT tennis club. The match was played in sweltering heat best suited for a day at Southwold with ice cream on the beach. Credit to the professionals at Nottingham we spent more time sitting in the shades between points we probably should have had our barbecue out ....,it was just that kind of match. In the second set both players improved there all round performance with Avery closing out a very close game. Thoroughly enjoyable match now looking forward to a cold shower and a pint in the shade......"  -- Avery
Reveal CommentAvery Jackson bt Daniel Peck (Jun 11) 6-1, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "The match was played in good spirit throughout with both players serving and returning well. Very closely contested encounter despite the scores."  -- Avery
Reveal CommentXin Chen bt Trevor Wright (Jun 11) 1-6, 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Trevor and Xin Played 2:30 hours. First set, Trevor made stead play, Xin made too many unforced error. Set 2, Trevor was leading at 30:0, Xin hit a ball outside the fence, Trevor decided to got it back, after that, Xin won next 8 points. Since that Trevor made more unforced/forced errors, lost 1:6. Set 3 Xin was leading at 5:0, Trevor broke back after 3 volley out by Xin. Xin broke back, 6:1. After the game Trevor reckon that he made big mistake by going out side the court to fetch the ball! ;-))"  -- Xin
Reveal CommentTyrone Bradnam bt Sivakumar Kandath (Jun 11) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "An early start at Christchurch Park with Bradnam getting off to a fine start by hitting a few winners. Siva picked his game up and started playing with more power but it was not enough to save the first set ending 6-1 to Bradnam. The second set was more competitive. Siva failed to take advantage of 5 break points at 2-1 up in the second which opened the door for Bradnam to take the next 5 games and secure the match 6-1 , 6-2"  -- Tyrone
Reveal CommentAvery Jackson bt Trevor Wright (Jun 10) 6-4, 7-6 (7-4)

Player Comments:

  • "Another enjoyable match with Trevor played on the grass courts at Felixstowe. The first set was a mixture of serves and volley with both players coping well in the windy conditions. A very close set with little to differentiate between both players. The second set was more of the same with short rallies and good serves throughout and was decided by a tiebreaker with both players exhausted at the end. "  -- Avery
Reveal CommentXin Chen bt Sivakumar Kandath (Jun 8) 6-2, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Siva and Xin played in a windy condition. First set Xin won 6:2, but all the games were pretty close. Second set, at 2:2 Xin had a few more unforced errors, Siva raised his game took 5:3 lead, Xin kept cool and played patiently, and lucky won the next 4 games . It was a good game! Siva barely sweat, and Xin was exhausted!"  -- Xin
Reveal CommentAvery Jackson bt Sivakumar Kandath (Jun 4) 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "It was another enjoyable match with Siwak played in good spirit throughout. The first set saw both players serving and volleying well. The second was a close match and could have gone any way. "  -- Avery
Reveal CommentJoshua Crossley bt Sivakumar Kandath (Jun 3) 6-4, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "A really high quality match with niether player making errors and the majority of points being decided by which player could outwit and outplay his opponent Josh came out the blocks all guns blazing to go 4-0 up early but Sivakumar played a really strong couple of games in reply Josh took the first set by raising his level once more and managed to carry the momentum into the second set going through the gears and finding some great passing shots to counter sivas aggressive game Well played Sivakumar you are a quality player and I expect will make major in roads into the division Thanks looking forward to playing again soon "  -- Joshua
Reveal CommentTyrone Bradnam bt Nick Anthony (Jun 3) 7-5, 1-6, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Another very competitive match played at Copleston Sports Centre for just over 2 hours. The first set was very competitive with Bradnam giving away a 5-3 lead. Anthony's clever slice's brought him back to 5-5 but Bradnam closed out the set at 7-5. Anthony raced to a 5-0 lead in the second set and moments later closed out With Anthony 1-0 up in the final set he missed the opportunity to take a 2-0 lead at 40-30. This allowed Bradnam with his relentless running to get back in the game and real off 6 games to take the decided 6-1. Very enjoyable."  -- Tyrone
Reveal CommentXin Chen bt Daniel Peck (May 28) 6-2, 7-6 (7-3)

Player Comments:

  • "Daniel and Xin played in a hot afternoon. Both struggled under the hot condition. Xin kept the unforced error low, and won first set 6:2. Second set was more evenly matched, Xin was leading at 5:3, but Daniel fought back levelled at 5:5 and 6:6. Tie break, Xin got a good start and eventually won 7:3. Very good game!" -- Xin
Reveal CommentNick Anthony bt Avery Jackson (May 27) 6-4, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Nick bounced back from defeat with a convincing victory over a recuperating Avery. After waiting for the storm to subside both players traded blows to reach 3-3 before Nick broke Avery. Avery then held serve at 3-5 but Nick held on after saving break points to close the first set 6-4. Nick broke Avery twice early in the second and raced into a 5-0 lead. Avery struck back with a couple of games before Nick held his serve to love to complete his first win in the Group. Another sporting encounter but Avery is still working his way back to fitness back after surgery. All credit to Avery for still wanting to compete in a tough group. There is little doubt the big man with the big character will be firing those big shots again soon. "  -- Nick
Reveal CommentTrevor Wright bt Nick Anthony (May 21) 7-5, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Great weather for our match on the number 2 grass court at Felixstowe. There were some early breaks of serve, but Nick's heavy shots and effective use of slice, plus some good wrong footing shots, left him serving for the first set at 5.3 up. Trevor raised his game, taking 6 games in a row to come back and win the first set and get a good start to the second. Nick broke serve to stop the run, but then lost his own serve and from there Trevor was able to get to a 5.1 lead and win shortly after."  -- Trevor
Reveal CommentTyrone Bradnam bt Xin Chen (May 20) 5-7, 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Tyrone Bradnam and Xin Chen battled it out at Christchurch park with the length of the match playing an important part on both players legs. Bradnam served for the first set at 5-4 but some great play by Chen saw him reel of 3 games in a row to take the first set 7-5. The second set was a close affair. With both players locked at 3-3 this time it was Bradnam who produced some great tennis taking the next 3 games and putting it to a final set. Both players struggles with the long rallies but it was Bradnam who continued to make progress taking an early lead in the final set. At 4-2 40-30 Bradnam cramped while running the ball prompting a medical time out. Chen thought back but it was Bradnam who came through 5-7 6-3 6-3"  -- Tyrone

Player Comments:

  • "Extremely difficult conditions with a strong wind and the sun making serving tough. James adapted better in the first set and won it after taking the first 5 games but I finally improved and won the first 5 games of the second set, helped by a few vital net cords (including two in a row to win a game) and a lack of height making it easier for me than James to reach the balls that just stopped in the wind. Final set was much closer but i managed to sneak it after winning the last 3 games."  -- Richard

Great game thanks Paul."  -- Stuart

I eventually woke up and managed to win the match with relative ease, There was some good tennis played by both players and Jorunas said he did not enjoy early mornings so I am sure this had an effect on the result. "  -- Spencer

Player Comments:

  • "There were a few threatening clouds as play started, but they soon dispersed to leave a decent summer's evening. The first set was largely uneventful except perhaps for the East Anglian Air Ambulance taking off from behind the trees adjoining the courts. The second set included plenty of good rallies, some of which were frantic and badminton-like at the net, as well as solid ground strokes from both players and several delightful lobs from Jorunas. It had turned into such a lovely evening that both players stayed on to play a 3rd set, which Jorunas took 6-4, to prove that the official score did not fully reflect the closeness of a good match."  -- Ashley

Reveal CommentJamie Cussans bt Bill Garside (Jun 5) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Good match played in windy but dry conditions at CCP. There was a lot of nice tennis played with a good variety of shots from both players. Bill lead 2-1 in the 2nd set and was playing well, and with the memory of him beating me over 3 sets a couple of years ago I knew I had to put everything into winning the 2nd set. Luckily after some very long games a third set was avoided! Very enjoyable, fun match, thanks Bill."  -- Jamie
Reveal CommentJamie Cussans bt Ashley Miller (May 26) 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (5-7), 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "No, that's not a phone number entered in error! These 2 players have form for slugging it out over 3 sets; today was no exception. Ashley led 2-1 for the only time in the 1st set, although there was only ever a game in it. The 2nd set was equally close fought, as Jamie led 4-2 and 5-4 before Ashley managed to prevail in another tie-break set. After 2 hours on one of the warmest days of the year so far, they still had a 3rd set to go! Jamie looked on the ropes as Ashley led 2-0, before crumbling quite spectacularly & losing 6 games on the bounce. The electronic wizardry claims the players covered approximately 5 miles each and although the final set didn’t quite live up to the opening 2, it was still a fabulous game on a beautiful day."  -- Ashley
Reveal CommentSpencer Dunn bt Bill Garside (May 26) 6-3, 7-6 (7-2)

Player Comments:

  • "A very competitive match. Spencer started strongly and this was enough to take the 1st set comfortably. The 2nd set was a different story and Bill had worked out better how to play Spencer. Bill has numerous opportunities to take control of the set but Spencer managed to hold on and take the set on tie break. Bill did say he was not sure he had the legs for another set so maybe it was just as well it ended there. "  -- Spencer

Player Comments:

  • "Me and Nic know each other very well as we are both members at Roundwood. The first set started with both players being consistent on serve until 3-3, when Lee managed to break away and take the set. The second set started with Lee racing out to a 4-1 lead, but with the sun blazing we decided a small break was necessary to cool down! On resumption Lee broke Nic's serve to go 5-1 ahead, but Nic wasn't finished and saved two match points to stay in the match. Nic then took the next two games to take it to 5-3, but one last push from Lee and a forehand winner closed out the match. A terrific effort from both players in very hot difficult conditions. Thanks for a great game. "  -- Lee

  • "We met at Roundwood Club for our match on what was a beautiful day for tennis! The first set was quite tense with both players initially holding serve to 3 all, but Lee managed to break Paul's serve and close out the set. Lee started strongly in set 2 to go 2 luv up, but Paul roared back with the next 3 games to take the lead, really going for his shots, However Lee managed to hold on to the next few games and close out the match. A really close and fun match, thank you!"  -- Lee
