Revision information
Provide an explanation of the changes you are making. This will help other authors understand your motivations.

This is how it works:

  • Players are organised into groups of up to 8 people of a similar standard
  • Contact details are emailed
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is:

  • For everybody!
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Don't worry that you won't be good enough - playing matches is the best way to improve, and we use an online questionnaire to assess people's ability so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three sets; if a set reaches 6 games all it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group
  • Players are placed in groups according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Each player attempts to play each of the other player on their group once during the round
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls).
  • The winner of the group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winner of the group wins a certificate and tennis prizes
  • Where possible, winners of groups are promoted to the group above for the next round.

Getting started

New players will need to complete the player questionnaire before they can join a round. Once you’ve signed up, and for returning players you can join any of the upcoming rounds above.

For everything you need to know before you get started see the FAQs and review the Rules and Regulations, which all players agree to adhere to when playing in the leagues.

If there is anything else you need help with get in contact with Nigel, Sally and the team who will be happy to help!

"Very much enjoying the league, thank you for your efforts. As the old stager in this group at 52 I am playing my best tennis ever, not quite sure how I beat Hilary and Avery they are much better than me! You have done a great job with the league, encouraging participation and getting the mix right with the correct standards of players in each group,"

Nick Anthony

"I definitely improved over the course of the round,"

Dan Davies

"Thank you for organising the competition. It was very enjoyable, "

Nick Anthony

"I have thoroughly enjoyed playing in the local league. It really fits my work hours now where I can arrange the matches myself. I had given up on singles a number of years ago and was accepting that I needed to be younger and fewer ladies were interested in singles anyway. If I was going to get back into tennis since I moved jobs, I realised it would have to be singles and so far I have been surprised,"

Mary Crawford

"Thank you for the congrats. Group winning tastes like the best lager!  Thank you Sally and Nigel for being good organisers. Good job.  I plan to rejoin our leaque in September,"

Waldemar Kapkowski

"Very enjoyable, all played with good attitude and spirit in nice surroundings. Thanks to all concerned,"

Fred Woollard

Player Comments:

  • "A good match played in good spirit"  -- Charles
Reveal CommentNick Anthony bt Waldemar Kapkowski (Mar 18) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Nick bounced back from yesterday's defeat with a decisive straight sets win over Waldemar. At 1-1 Nick stepped up his play to win 7 successive games. Waldemar was struggling to cope with Nick's heavier serve and ground shots. Walden rallied at 2-0 down in the second set to hold his serve. However his usual consistency had deserted him and Nick did not concede another game. For Waldemar it was just a bad day at the office. Nick played nearly as well as Josh instead of playing like Josh's grandad the day before!"  -- Nick
Reveal CommentJoshua Crossley bt Dan Emery (Mar 18) 6-0, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "A fun match with lots of competitive rallies Josh was strong out the blocks defending well and neutralising any aggression from Dan transferring momentum and counter punching With controlled aggression josh managed to wrap up a strong first set In the second set josh became a bit too passive at times and Dan played some strong competitive points however josh managed to maintain his lead and finish the match strongly Well played Dan good luck in the rest of your matches :) "  -- Joshua
Reveal CommentJoshua Crossley bt Nick Anthony (Mar 17) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "A fun match against one of the leagues best Nick played a solid match with plenty of variety in his game and varying his serve effectively however on this occasion josh was just too strong combining a blend of powerful and precise winners with deft touch and Vicious slice when constructing points Thanks to nick for being such a good competitor and complementing my tennis during the match I'm sure he will be very successful this round "  -- Joshua
Reveal CommentNick Anthony bt Tracy Ward (Mar 16) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Nick and Tracy enjoyed a close match in the spring sunshine. Tracy's quick footwork and precise shots gave Niick no time to settle and he was fortunate to win some very close games. The match was very even and Nick's extra power proved decisive. A very enjoyable and sporting contest"  -- Nick

Match Results:

Reveal CommentMarcus Sheaff bt Alec Main (Mar 18) 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "The opening game set the tone for the rest of the match with both players timing and striking the ball sweetly which lead to lengthy and entertaining rallies with a good variety of shots. Marcus broke Alec after a couple of deuces and went on to claim the first set. Marcus took a two game lead in set two then had to fight hard when serving to win a marathon game with six deuces that felt decisive for the outcome of the match. Having used a lot of energy Marcus's level dipped and Alec raised his to draw level at 3-3. At 4-4 with incoming rain and the finish line in sight Marcus put his foot on the gas to break Alec then hold serve to round of this highly enjoyable and sociable encounter. "  -- Marcus
Howard Kendray bt Ryan Squirrell (Mar 18) 6-0, 6-0
Alec Main bt Ryan Squirrell (Mar 15) 6-0, 6-3
Reveal CommentSarah Quinlan bt Stuart Horrex (Mar 13) 6-3, 7-6

Player Comments:

  • "Played on a very warm day for time of year at Christchurch park, Sarah was in her stride straight away taking a 3-0 lead before Stuart getting into it a bit more, with many games going to deuces Sarah took the first set. 2nd set Stuart started the quicker taking a 2 game lead before Sarah levelling, remainder of the set was a tough tight match with many deuces and long rally's, Sarah eventually coming away with the win in a very competitive tie break. Thank you Sarah for a great game."  -- Stuart
Howard Kendray bt Alec Main (Mar 11) 6-2, 6-2
Reveal CommentSivakumar Kandath bt Marcus Sheaff (Mar 11) 6-4, 3-6, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Marcus was caught cold by siva after not playing for almost 3 weeks. Siva was 4-1 up before Marcus got anything going and despite pegging siva back to 4-4 it was a case of starting too late and siva took the set. With his confidence growing and the rust coming off Marcus raised his level and took the second set. The decider was more of a battle of attrition than tennis and with both players tiring, siva just managed to outlast Marcus with the added help of his supporters on court. Siva played the marginally better tennis on the day but Marcus would very much like a rematch sometime in the future in more fair conditions for both players and with both players following the rules and etiquette of the league. "  -- Marcus

  • "Hard fought well contested game..played in a nice sporting manner.. Cheers Jon good luck for rest of your games"  -- Simon
Reveal CommentMike Bernard bt Paul Ridley (Mar 16) 6-4, 7-6 (7-4)

Player Comments:

  • "A lovely day with perfect conditions for tennis, shaded court, a sporting opponent and a game played in good spirit. What more could one want? A little less hard work maybe. Both players held serve like real tennis players until 3-3. Then Paul broke Mike's serve to take a 4-3 lead. Mike rallied to take the first set 6-4. The second set was even closer and, with the assistance of a net cord which helped THREE times, Mike held on to 6-6. Prayers were offered to avoid a third set which seemed to have the desired effect, Mike taking an early 3-0 lead and closing out to 7-4. Lovely match thanks Paul. "  -- Mike
