Player Comments:

  • "Thanks to Sam for travelling down for a much enjoyable game of tennis! A very competitive first set with Sam getting an early lead and took the set to 5-2 before a mini comeback, finally finishing 6-4 to Sam. The 2nd set Sam continued to be very consistent, hitting powerful strokes using the whole court making it difficult. Again, a small comeback prior to Sam taking the set 6-3. A game where although I lost, was very enjoyable to play. Good luck with your remaining games Sam! "  -- Adam

Player Comments:

  • "We joined a junior county tournament on the courts in a slight wind for our next encounter. Pip led off with a strong service game and managed to build on this throughout the set. There were some hit and hope retrievals receiving some much needed wind assistance to make it very tricky for the opponent. Set two started in Pip's favour too with some uncharacteristic misses from Avery. He made up for this on his next two service games with only two returned serves and no points conceded. Avery declared the shot of the match as a lob from Pip after a backspin drop return (amazing to get anything over this tall gent's reach). Pip's good service game continued to see the match out in her favour this time. Great game, as always. Thank you, Avery"  -- Philippa

Player Comments:

  • "A windy morning in Lexden which was unfortunate. Matt took a lead in the first set 5-2 but with some good hitting Sam came back and it got to 6-6 which meant a tiebreak. Matt went 5-2 up in that and like the set, Sam came back and took the tiebreak 7-5. Both players were struggling with the wind but Matt took the second set 6-4. Sam then cruised the match tiebreak 10-3 playing well. Some nice hitting. Thanks for the game Sam! All the best with the remaining games you have! "  -- Matt
Reveal CommentMARIUS MALINESCU bt Matt Chappell (Sep 12) 6-0, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Dominant display from Marius, wasn’t Matt’s day at all. Matt struggled from early on, managed to get 2 games in the second set but Marius was just too strong tonight. Enjoyable tennis though with some good hitting!"  -- Matt
Reveal CommentSam Holman bt Avery Jackson (Sep 10) 6-3, 4-6, [10-4]

Player Comments:

  • "A tough battle in unsettled weather at Christchurch park. Sam was fast out of the block in the first and served and moved well to close out the first. In the second and after a break for the rain Avery managed to break early. Sam showed great resilience to even it up at 3-3 however Avery managed to lift his game to take the set. The tie break decider was one way traffic with Sam hitting some great returns and playing more consistently throughout to take the match."  -- Avery
Reveal CommentNick Anthony bt Adam Chappell (Sep 8) 7-5, 7-6 (9-7)

Player Comments:

  • "Adam and Nick fought a close battle over two long sets. Adam started the better and raced into a 4-1 lead with some big serves and punishing forehands. Nick started a comeback and slowly but surely started to accumulate a run of games to draw level at 5-5. He broke Adam and held serve to complete his comeback and take a set lead. The sun had now disappeared to be fittingly replaced by sombre clouds on such a momentous day. Adam reset himself and held serve and a game lead throughout the set. Both players continued to hold and the inevitable tie break beckoned. At 6-5 Nick blasted a smash high and wide, allowing Adam to hit back and then have set point at 7-6. Nick saved it and at 8-7 Adam finally succumbed to end a tremendous fight."  -- Nick
Reveal CommentNick Anthony bt Philippa Ward (Sep 6) 3-6, 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Nick and Pip enjoyed or maybe endured a titanic struggle at a sunny Grundisburgh. Pip started the sharper, running down Nick’s shots and dominating the match to take the first set 6-3. In the next set Nick gradually gained a foothold and managed to increase his narrow lead to take the next set again 6-3. He started brighter in the third and wasted the opportunity for a 2-0 lead as Pip broke his serve and with a dazzling array of shots took a 3-1 lead. The game seemed to be up for Nick but he somehow dragged his way back to level at 3-3 and took the lead with a mixture of whipped and sliced forehands. With Pip serving 40-15 and 3-5, Nick cut her lead and took break point and the match with sliced winners. Thank you, Pip. Great match!"  -- Nick
Reveal CommentAdam Chappell bt Matt Chappell (Sep 6) 6-3, 3-6, [13-11]

Player Comments:

  • "A first singles game between both of us in years! I got a good start with an early break and continued to keep ahead in the first set, eventually winning 6-3. The 2nd set Matt started to see his rallies get into full swing and was playing better this set. Matt took the lead to 4-3 before winning the remaining games to conclude the set 3-6. A match tie break was played out and I managed to secure a big lead, 8-2! However, the pressure hit and it soon was level at 9-9 with rain just about setting in. After a few more nervous points (and a few frustrated shouts) I took the win 13-11. A good, competitive game that could of gone either way. Well played Matt. "  -- Adam
Reveal CommentSam Holman bt Nick Anthony (Sep 4) 7-5, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "A close match between Sam and I played on a hot morning at Copleston. Each set was nip and tuck with the score going to and fro but it was Sam who made the decisive breaks with his pacy ground shots and strong serve. Clever use of his out to in whipped forehand gave Sam the edge in a very enjoyable and sporting encounter."  -- Nick

Player Comments:

  • "It was my first competitive singles game for a number of years and Pip made me remember how difficult it is to playing doubles. I got a good start in the first set and took the lead to 5-3. Pip battled back and managed to take the set into a tie break. Not much between this tie break and it was finally concluded at 7-5 to myself. The next set was very similar to the first, however, Pip managed to fight out the final stage of the set and took this set 5-7. A match tiebreak was agreed and after a close start to the tiebreak (5-5), i managed to serve well on my points for the remainder of the tie break and took the mach tie break 10-5. Thank you Pip for travelling down to Bramford and for a great game. Good luck with your remaining games."  -- Adam

  • "A brilliant evenings tennis, some really good hitting and throughly enjoyable match against Pip. Matt went 2-0 down in the first set but managed to come back and win the following 6 games to complete the set 6-2. Matt went 3-0 down in the second set and was struggling against Pip who was playing well, eventually the score ended up at 6-6 and went to a tie break, which Matt managed to get. Good luck for the remaining games Pip. — Matt"  -- Matt

Player Comments:

  • "An enjoyable first time encounter in the singles league with Matt. We have played several doubles game in the Suffolk league. A tough first set with both players serving and hitting well in a tight first set. The second was played in warmer conditions in the midday sunshine and both players struggled with consistency. A great first time out against an opponent who should do well in this league…"  -- Avery

Player Comments:

  • "Matt and Nick enjoyed a tough tussle on a warm evening at Bramford. The first set went with serve until Nick broke Matt and then held on despite some stiff resistance from Matt to edge it 6-4. Nick took the first two games in the next set only for Matt to storm back with winners from both wings to take a 5-3 lead. Matt then closed the set decisively to level the match. Matt started well in the tie-break decider but gradually Nick fought back and eventually took a lead at 8-7. Matt refused to give up and with rasping forehand drives took the next two points and then hit another winner to take the match. A enjoyable and close contest played in a sporting manner. "  -- Nick

Player Comments:

  • "Another close match between the two old adversaries with big serving Avery having the edge. Nick started brightly, breaking Avery and the first set settled into a rhythm until at 5-4 Avery broke Nick to take the set. This galvanised Avery into his power play and Nick did not win a point until holding serve in the fourth game. Avery’s serve was unplayable, he replied to any question of break points with decisive answers of aces, serving up seven in all. Nick clawed his way back and finally broke Avery to love at 3-5. Nick then held serve to level the set before Avery regained the ascendancy and won the last two sets to finally tip the scales in Avery’s favour. Another enjoyable and sporting match against the gentle giant. "  -- Nick

Player Comments:

  • "This was our first meeting and we got off to a lengthy start with Paul serving. Several deuces endured before he finally took the first game. I put the pressure straight back on by winning my opening service game to love. Another long game with uncountable deuces followed but this time I was able to break, hold and break again to lead 5-1. Paul held serve under pressure to make sure I served for the set, which I managed to achieve. The second set seemed to have shorter rallies with both players going for big shots. I was a bit more consistent than Paul and was able to take the set 6-1. Thanks for the match Paul and good luck in your remaining matches. "  -- David

Player Comments:

  • "Good to play Paul after quite a while since our last encounter, 1st set was very close with no one wanting to hold serve and many close deuce games so much so that we both completely lost track of the score at one point having to think back in our minds to resolve. 2nd set started of similar until at 2-1 to me the rain intervened heavily and we took a 15min break while it passed, on restart I come out of the blocks quickly going into 5-1 lead before Paul took the next before I closed out the match. Very enjoyable match thanks Paul and good luck with the rest of your games. "  -- Stuart

Player Comments:

  • "Paul was playing his first match since April whereas I was playing my fourth in seven days. Paul was a little rusty in the first set which I won comfortably. The second set was more competitive than the score suggests with Paul finding his range on the backhand and a number of games going to deuce. I maintained a high standard to take the win in what was an enjoyable and friendly match. Thanks Paul and good luck for the rest of your matches."  -- Jack

The first set was very tight with some good tennis played by both players but I managed to sneak it breaking Stuart to take it 7-5. I relaxed into the second set playing more consistently and managed to take it 6-1 with a number of close games going in my favour. Well played Stuart."  -- Jack

  • "Humid morning for our match, at ccp. I started well, by reeling off the first few games, and was quickly into a lead, which I held to take the 1st set. The 2nd was much closer, with some great rallies. David hit more winners to get back to challenge for the set. I was glad to serve at 5-4, and was lucky to get 2 net cords in the last game, to take the match , and avoid a 3rd set. "  -- Mark

Player Comments:

  • "A competitive and enjoyable match in perfect conditions down at Bramford Tennis Club this evening. The first set went with serve until Jack broke in the 4th game. David broke back immediately before Jack managed to win the next 4 games to take the first set. David was playing consistently in the second and was unlucky in some very tight games where good rallies were exchanged throughout. Jack was serving for the set at 5-1 and blew several match points before David deservedly took the game after well over 15 mins. Jack ended up taking the win in the next game in what was a really enjoyable match. Thanks David, well played."  -- Jack
