Vertical Tabs

This is how it works:

  • Players are organised into groups of between 5 to 9 people of a similar standard
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • Groups are put together by standard and there can be any combination of men and women in a group (we do not guarantee a balance of men and women and you could be the only man in a group of women or vice versa!)
  • Contact details are emailed and posted to each player's account page
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is:

  • For everyone over the age of 18
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Don't worry that you won't be good enough - playing matches is the best way to improve, and we use an online questionnaire to assess people's ability so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three sets; if a set reaches 6 games all it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group. Contact details are also posted to your Account Page
  • Players are placed in groups according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Each player attempts to play each of the other player on their group once during the round
  • A point is awarded for each set won
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls)
  • The winner of the group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winner of the group wins a voucher for £20 to be spent in the Local Tennis League online shop. A winner's certificate is also posted to the winner's Account Page as a PDF file.
  • Where possible, winners of groups are promoted to the group above for the next round.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed playing in the local league. It really fits my work hours now where I can arrange the matches myself. I had given up on singles a number of years ago and was accepting that I needed to be younger and fewer ladies were interested in singles anyway. If I was going to get back into tennis since I moved jobs, I realised it would have to be singles and so far I have been surprised,"

Mary Crawford

"Very enjoyable, all played with good attitude and spirit in nice surroundings. Thanks to all concerned,"

Fred Woollard

"Thank you for organising the competition. It was very enjoyable, "

Nick Anthony

"Very much enjoying the league, thank you for your efforts. As the old stager in this group at 52 I am playing my best tennis ever, not quite sure how I beat Hilary and Avery they are much better than me! You have done a great job with the league, encouraging participation and getting the mix right with the correct standards of players in each group,"

Nick Anthony

"I really enjoyed playing in the tennis league. It ensures you play tennis regularly and meet new people" -- Ankur Singhania

Ankur Singhania

"I've had some excellent matches, learnt a few things about myself in relation to match play, met some nice people and made some new tennis buddies which I think is the whole idea of the League - so thank you for that.  I shall look forward to playing in the League again in January!",

Group Summary:

The number of three set thrillers hit doubles figures in this very competitive group with Xin and Nick's "titanic battle" and Marcus and Stuart's "sporting fun in the sun" just two of the highlights. Avery was determined not to relinquish his crown, digging deep to win six of the seven matches he played to claim his second title on the bounce. Kudos to Tyrone who takes the bragging rights for defeating the champ. Matthew beat Tyrone in a high quality match with lots of winners to steal second spot. Well played all.

Player Comments:

  • "Xin started well taking the first two games . Some good points played and was a very enjoyable game at Adastral Park. Second set was a similar story ending 6-2 in Tyrone’s favour xx"  -- Tyrone
Reveal CommentXin Chen bt Marcus Sheaff (Mar 30) 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Played in a beautiful sunny afternoon, not too hot, not too cold, not too much sun, no wind. Perhaps too much fight last night with Nick, Marcus held serve until 3:3. Xin took the next 3 games. Second set is similar, the games were closer than score suggested. "  -- Xin
Reveal CommentDaniel Peck bt Stuart Horrex (Mar 30) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "This was certainly a closer match than scores would suggest and Stuart was disappointed not to have made it more competitive despite serving very well at times. There were several very good rallies and going out with an attacking approach worked well for Daniel. "  -- Daniel
Reveal CommentNick Anthony bt Marcus Sheaff (Mar 29) 7-5, 0-6, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Marcus and Nick enjoyed a fantastic battle lasting two and a half hours. Marcus was out of the blocks quickly taking a 4-2 lead. Nick kept plugging away and managed to level the set and eventually win 7-5. Marcus was stung into a response and produced some brilliant attacking play to which a faltering Nick had no answer but to accept a bagel at teatime. The third set was like two boxers trading punchy shots. Although under pressure Nick kept holding serve to maintain a lead and at 5-4 had match point and produced a certain winner only for Marcus to send a cross court backhand from an impossible angle to save the match with the shot of the match. Nick finally got over the line at 7-5 to end a sporting contest in the fading light."  -- Nick
Reveal CommentMatthew Last bt Tyrone Bradnam (Mar 24) 2-6, 6-2, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Fantastic match of tennis played in perfect conditions at Christchurch Park. Quality from both players was sky high with very few unforced errors throughout the match, in fact pretty sure the winners count would have been higher than the number of unforced errors for both players. First two sets could have gone either way but bizarrely ended up both being 6v2. Deciding set started with four breaks of serve before I finally held. Next few games all went to deuce with both players battling physically however continuing to maintain the high quality level of tennis. With the set locked at 4v4 I managed to win the next two games with both going all the way to duece again, thoroughly enjoyable game and certainly look forwards to a rematch! "  -- Matthew
Reveal CommentDaniel Peck bt Nick Anthony (Mar 23) 4-6, 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Nick got off to a great start racing to a 3-1 lead before Daniel pegged back to 3-3 and then 4-4 before Nick took control again with some fine play to round off the last 2 games in a set that lasted well over an hour. Daniel made the better start in the 2nd set getting to 4-0 before Nick took 2 of the next 3 games to threaten a comeback that Daniel managed to avoid. The 3rd set was a real battle and followed the suit of the entire match with multiple deuces in most games and some very good shots and rallies from both players. Overall it was a great game of tennis and a good endurance test lasting an exhausting 2.5hrs. "  -- Daniel
Reveal CommentTyrone Bradnam bt Waldemar Kapkowski (Mar 17) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "First time match up with Tyrone and Waldemar . Unfortunately Waldemar was still carrying a shoulder injury from the week before . Tyrone showed no mercy and took the match 6-0 , 6-1 afyer Waldemar saved 4 match points xx "  -- Tyrone
Reveal CommentAvery Jackson bt Nick Anthony (Mar 16) 6-3, 4-6, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Nick and Avery had another tough match in windy conditions. Nick started sharper taking a 3-2 lead only for Avery to rattle off 4 games with his power serves and trademark forehands to take the set. Avery found the swirling conditions were playing havoc with his serve and Nick capitalised by racing into a 4-1 lead. Although Avery hit back Nick was able to hold on for 6-4 and levelled the match. Avery settled the quicker in the final set and Nick had no answer to his power play. A well controlled volley at break point down and 3-1 proved a decisive winner as Avery took an unassailable 4-1 lead and took the final two games to end an enjoyable match where both players fought the conditions and each other."  -- Nick
Matthew Last bt Stuart Horrex (Mar 14) 6-3, 6-2
Reveal CommentTyrone Bradnam bt Stuart Horrex (Mar 11) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Played on a bright but windy Monday morning at CCP. Tyrone started well and made lots of returns putting pressure on Stuarts serve. Stuart had points to win games but could not quite convert. Tyrone was desperate to win 6-0 6-0 but lost the 12th game after being lobbed by Stuart. Stuart battled well till the end. Tyrone"  -- Tyrone
Reveal CommentAvery Jackson bt Matthew Last (Mar 10) 7-5, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "This match was played in the picturesque Suffolk village of Saxmundham. After being beaten comprehensively by Matt and his partner in the doubles tournament on Thursday I was dreading our singles match today. In a match where we had a bit of rain, sunshine, gale force winds and finally hale stones we both gave it our best shots. A thoroughly enjoyable match played in good spirits"  -- Avery
Reveal CommentAvery Jackson bt Xin Chen (Mar 9) 6-4, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Another enjoyable game played in windy conditions in Christchurch Park. It was Xin who started well and led 3-1 in the first. The conditions made serving difficult but Avery managed to cope well to take the second with Xin struggling with serves in the windy conditions."  -- Avery
Reveal CommentMatthew Last bt Daniel Peck (Mar 9) 6-4, 4-6, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Another 3 set epic with very few easy points on offer throughout the match. First set was very much nip and tuck with virtually every game going to deuce. At 5v4 I had the chance to serve out the first set however yet again it ended up being a long deuce game which I was fortunate to win as Dan had two cracking shots in the last two points that both ended up just being out. Dan quickly put this behind him and raced to a 4v1 lead in the second set before I managed to peg him back to 4v4 however was all in vein as Dan won the next two games to level the match resulting in another 6v4 scoreline which was our 5th in a row. Many pundits would have bet on the deciding game being yet another 6v4 however I managed to get ahead early on and win 6v0"  -- Matthew
Reveal CommentNick Anthony bt Stuart Horrex (Mar 8) 6-4, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Nick registered his first win of the Group with a hard fought win over Stuart. Stuart started the sharper breaking Nick in the opening game but Nick slowly took control to lead 5-2. A resilient Stuart hit back with 2 games before Nick managed to close the set. Nick stepped up his play in the second with more whipped and forehands and backhand slices to an unassailable 5-1 lead. Stuart kept battling but Nick held one to close an enjoyable and sporting match. You "  -- Nick

Player Comments:

  • "Stuart and Xin had good game in peaceful (a bit sunny) afternoon, Xin started well in 1st set, the game was a lot tighter than score suggested, a few games Stuart was 40:0 lead. Second set was even closer , Stuart broke Xin twice at 3:3 and 5:5, luckily Xin broke back, levelled at 6:6, tie break Xin eventually won, Good game! Thanks Stuart."  -- Xin

Reveal CommentMatthew Last bt Nick Anthony (Mar 1) 6-3, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "After having many a gigantic battle in the past for our retrospective club teams in the summer doubles league, I knew heading into this game it would be a tough match. First set started off very close with me just edging ahead during the mid point. After a couple of long deuces I was finally able to get the set won. After racing away in the second, I was fortunate enough to get two net cords in a row to take a 4v1 lead at the change of ends. As it turned out, these two points would be crucial as Nick dug deep and forced the set all the way by making it 5v4, saving several match points along the way. After yet another deuce game, I was finally able to put the match to bed. "  -- Matthew
Reveal CommentTyrone Bradnam bt Avery Jackson (Feb 25) 6-3, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "A nice match with lots of long rallies ending in a 6-3 7-5 win for Tyrone . Tyrone started well continuing where he left off against Nick on Saturday . Both players struggled with the sun as anything half court was put away by both players . Tyrone was surprised by how well avery was moving and let a 5-2 second set lead slip. At 5-5 Tyrone stepped his game up and closed 7-5 in the second . Lovely job x "  -- Tyrone
Reveal CommentMatthew Last bt Xin Chen (Feb 24) 6-1, 2-6, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "With it being the warmest day of 2019 so far it turned out to be the perfect conditions for a topsy-turvy 3 setter. First set was not quite how it looks on paper with Xin making me work hard for every point however I managed to get abit of momentum early on and raced to a one set lead. Second set was in stark contrast with Xin flying to 5v0 thanks mostly in part to a much improved service game that allowed him to hold with ease. After my heavy fall with Marcus last time out, I was struggling to get much use of my left arm and had to resort to using a one handed backhand which Xin massively exploited with plenty of lopping shots aimed in that direction. The third set was a much tighter affair and could of easily gone either way."  -- Matthew
Reveal CommentTyrone Bradnam bt Nick Anthony (Feb 23) 6-2, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "On a beautiful spring morning Tyrone and Nick faced off for the first time in a while. Tyrone was a little nervous as this was his first singles match since November. Despite this Tyrone made a great start racing to a 3-0 lead. Nick then started to get his game together and won two games in a row with some solid shots. Tyrone stepped his game up hitting winners of both sides to take the first set 6-2. Tyrone continued to play well using the quick court to move Nick around and raced to a 5-0 lead in the second. Nick did not give up and mounted a mini fight back but the game ended 6-1 , 6-2"  -- Tyrone
Waldemar Kapkowski bt Stuart Horrex (Feb 23) 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4
Reveal CommentMarcus Sheaff bt Daniel Peck (Feb 23) 4-6, 6-4, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Avery's prediction was spot on, Daniel gave me big problems in the first set for the 3rd match running. He started on another level to me and the best I could do was try to make up as much ground as possible and stay within touching distance of him but his quick head-start was insurmountable. I didn't allow myself to become dispondant and stayed patient and positive, using the experiences of my 3 previous tough tests and the match fitness gained from these to get off to a much improved start in the 2nd, getting an early break and then the remainder went with serve. Daniel had to leave in 45min from the start of set 3 which gave me the impitous not to let my level drop which is what I knew was required to see the match out."  -- Marcus

Match of the Group:

Reveal CommentMarcus Sheaff bt Stuart Horrex (Feb 19) 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "This sporting fun in the sun was our 3rd meeting. The 1st in group 3, 2nd in group 2 and this in group 1. This shows we have both consistently improved and so does the scoreline because the first 2 matches were 6-1 6-2 & 7-6 6-1 in my favour so that shows stuarts game, particularly his serve has improved considerably. The match didn't really take off until 4-4 in the first set when I pounced like xin in his new jaguar to win 2 games to take it. Stuart took charge of the 2nd and had 4-2 & 5-3 leads and despite my best effort I couldn't quite turn it around and Stuart thoroughly deserved to draw level at a set each. I pounced again at the right time, which provided me with an invaluable double-break which was just enough."  -- Marcus
Reveal CommentAvery Jackson bt Stuart Horrex (Feb 17) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "An enjoyable match played in good spirit at Christchurch park. Both players struggled with serves but nevertheless had some great rallies throughout the match. "  -- Avery
Reveal CommentXin Chen bt Nick Anthony (Feb 16) 4-6, 6-4, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Nick and Xin toiled in another titanic battle for just short of three hours. Nick started sharper, helped by uncharacteristic double faults from Xin and took the first set 6_4. Xian hit back in the second racing into a 4-1 lead with good use of his trademark backhands. Nick levelled at 4-4 but Xin was strong enough to break back to win the next two games and level the match. The final set followed a similar pattern. Xian seized on some poor serving by Nick to take a 4-1 lead, Nick dug deep to level with his backhand slice coming to the fore. But Xin was not going to be denied and pounced like his new jaguar to win the next two games and the match. Another enjoyable and sporting contest. "  -- Nick
Reveal CommentAvery Jackson bt Daniel Peck (Feb 16) 1-6, 6-3, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "A welcome break from watching Netflix during the wintry weather conditions but it was Daniel who was first out of the blocks serving up Aces and showing great composure to close out the first set in around 18 mins. In the second Daniel took his foot off the pedal and I took advantage to race into a 5-0 lead and finally closing off the game. Daniel kept up the pace in the third and raised his game serving several aces taking him to a 3-1 lead. I managed to break even and then to take the lead to 5-3. But Daniel was not done and the improvements in his overall game should see him really creating problems for all the players. Another enjoyable encounter and now back to having a pint and watching the final episode of the movie on Netflix. "  -- Avery
Reveal CommentMarcus Sheaff bt Waldemar Kapkowski (Feb 16) 6-4, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "This was as close to a copy of my last match as possible. Raconteur and tennis aficionado Waldemar got off to a similarly quick start as Matthew, racing to 3-1 then 4-2 and I had to use my powers of recovery and serve to get my out of trouble. It was our turn to take a tumble each today on slippy lines on an otherwise bone dry centre court, with Waldemar landing flat-out on his back and me springing back up like a boxer suffering a flash knockdown. The second set was a re-run with Waldemar 2-0 then again 4-2 and me repeating the comeback with patience, improved serving and more attacking play. This match shows that its never over in tennis until the final point is won and this can and has worked the other way-to many times for my liking!"  -- Marcus
Reveal CommentMarcus Sheaff bt Matthew Last (Feb 12) 6-4, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Matthew started much sharper than me, building a 3-1 lead in no time. I knew I had to improve fast or it would be to late and raised my level, playing more aggressively. Matthew seemed distracted at a turning point in the set, when leading 4-3, 30-30 by a siren and then in the next game he fell heavily after pushing off from a slippery side of the court to run-down a slice I played down the line on the other side of the court. I was at 5-4 after this and I had to maintain a high level to get over the line. The 2nd set followed a similar pattern with Matthew not allowing his fall to affect him, taking a 2-0 lead, forcing me to raise my level again to catch him and stay with him up to 4-4 and I was lucky to get the break I needed then hold."  -- Marcus

Group Summary:

Patrick was the force to be reckoned with in group two, recording five fantastic wins without dropping a set to surge into top spot - well played. Zelma couldn't quite keep up with Patrick's pace at the front, but notched up four strong victories of her own to deservedly finish as the runner up. Hats off to Ashley and Jorunas for their efforts in their "war of attrition" contest that could have gone either way.

  • "EXCUSE ME came the cry from outside the court as I was hitting a forehand, as some kids who were clock-watching decided to call time on myself and Zelma's match. The audacity was incredulous, as they went on to play some tennis of decidedly less significance. We finally resumed our match a few weeks later, but the delay was not ideal. I had taken the first set 6-0 before, I had played well, though Zelma was disappointed not to play better and I understand that. The second set was competitive and closer than the score suggests, Zelma pushed me to deuce on several games and played some great shots at the net. I was just a bit more consistent overall to win. Thank you Zelma, and all other players, it's been an honour sharing the court with you"  -- Patrick
Reveal CommentJamie Cussans bt Ashley Miller (Mar 29) 6-2, 7-6 (7-5)

Player Comments:

  • "A very tough and enjoyable match as always with Ashley! After the match we agreed I generally play my best tennis in the first set of a match, and Ashley usually gets better as the match progresses. So it was no surprise that after winning the first set 6-2 the second was a battle to try and close out the match and avoid a 3rd set. It was neck and neck all the way through the set with plenty of drama: long rallies, drop shots, lobs, chasing lost causes and we both fought all the way to 6-6. Even the tiebreak was very close but I knew if Ashley won it he'd have the momentum to go on and win the 3rd. So a bit of stubbornness was needed to eventually win the tiebreak 7-5. A great match as always thanks Ashley."  -- Jamie
Reveal CommentJamie Cussans bt Jorunas Barzdzius (Mar 25) 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Good match played at CCP despite windy conditions which made things tricky at times for both players. There were some really good shots from Jorunas including 1 or 2 drop shots which I couldn't get to and some good baseline exchanges which seemed to get more powerful with each shot. I just managed to be a little more consistent but the 2nd set was close and it very nearly went to a 3rd set. Thanks for the game Jorunas."  -- Jamie

Player Comments:

  • "Jamie got off to a flying start in the first and I realised I needed to up my game when I found myself 4-1 down. The set really could have gone either way. In the second it was Jamie who pulled it back from the jaws of defeat to save match points and keep himself in it at 5-3 down. Another very close set but I just held it. I've played Jamie once before and that was also something of an epic battle. Some really great tennis in lovely conditions today. Thanks Jamie. "  -- Zelma
Reveal CommentPatrick Davey bt Ashley Miller (Mar 17) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Nice conditions for Sunday afternoon tennis at the park, less gusty than previous days. Really enjoyed meeting Ashley who is a good player. Admittedly, in the first set he was inconsistent and made some unforced errors, and I understood his frustration. I was just fortunate to be able to be a bit better in the right moments, playing some nice volleys and passing shots along the way. There were a few games however that were much closer than the scoreline suggests, and I remember the sixth game of the first set being crucial, it went to deuce and Ashley played some great tennis, I really had to work to pull through that. Once I went up 5-1 I had the confidence to go on to win. Thanks again Ashley, you played the game in a great spirit."  -- Patrick

Reveal CommentZelma Green bt Justin Morey (Mar 1) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Justin said he had seen the sign for the league when walking through the park and thought he'd give it a go after a twenty or so year gap. For such a gap parts of his game showed a lot of promise. His serve was impressively consistent, there were cross court winners and his movement was good. Justin commented his game had improved a lot from the matches he had played previously in the league and I realised at deuce in the second game he was quite capable of pulling out a response to shots and I needed to stay solid. With further deuces and game points Justin was unlucky not to get on the score sheet. With errors reducing and consistency increasing Justin will likely continue to improve in rounds going forward. • "It was awesome to finally play Jamie after we shared a group in a previous round, but didn't get round to playing each other. I am really happy that I was able to win this match, I know Jamie will be disappointed with the result, but should take heart from that I was pushed really hard. I had to chase down a lot of balls and play some shots that I didn't think I had in me! He continually put pressure on me, and I was forced to go up a gear when required, because his play demanded it. I remember the fifth game in the second set being especially tight, I was relieved to win it, and this gave me confidence to get the win. Thanks Jamie for a nice time, and glad you enjoyed it too despite the result."  -- Patrick

  • "Fantastic to meet Justin and play a match that admittedly whilst I was able to control the balance of play, Justin's game really improved from the 1st to 2nd sets, finding his range a lot more with some great angles that had me chasing! I have a lot of respect for Justin, it is difficult to be consistent following a long time without playing, but keep at it and you will see progress for sure! Thanks again Justin and good luck."  -- Patrick

  • "Despite the score I felt like Jorunas gave me a good run around and there were several games where I was behind. I've never been at Christchurch Park when security have advised it's the proverbial last orders but that was when we were playing for fun after the match so it was fine. Thank you for an enjoyable match Jorunas."  -- Zelma

Player Comments:

  • "Lovely day for tennis at the park, felt like spring had arrived! Really enjoyed meeting and playing with Jorunas, the match was closer than the score suggests, as is often the case, with some games going to deuce. I just played some good shots at the right time with Jorunas making some unforced errors, and that made the difference. Serving into the sun at midday was very awkward! Frustrating that this contributed to losing a game in the second set, but fortunately I had enough to get across the line and get the win. Thanks very much Jorunas, and good luck with your other matches! "  -- Patrick

Player Comments:

  • "At mild midday game started with quick first set where Justin's mistakes couldn't stand against Jorunas serves and calm game. Second set was with some challenges when Justin nicely played the ball and made couple excellent shots leading to deuce in few games. Jorunas took control on critical balls and winned set and match. Friendly third set has been played in more relaxed and challenged spirit. Thank you Justin for nice time. Jorunas."  -- Jorunas
Reveal CommentZelma Green bt Ashley Miller (Feb 17) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "It was an unusually warm and lovely sunny day for the time of year. Ashley felt like he struggled to get going in the first set. In the second he was 40 love up on serve in the fourth game to make it 2 all. Ashley played a ball to the back which I was busy trying to play so could not call out. He, extremely graciously, said he saw it was out and gave me the point. I then went on to take that game to lead three one. Ashley commented at the time that may be the turning point and I did then go on to take the second set. Some good tennis, played in great spirit, enjoyed it a lot Thanks Ashley. "  -- Zelma

Player Comments:

  • "A cool, overcast Saturday morning, brightened up by the Park Runners part way through the match. Justin hadn't played tennis for a few years, but was keen to get playing again, whilst Ashley had just about recovered from a lengthy match against Jorunas 5 days ago. Justin struggled to find his range and angles, which was to be expected after such a lengthy absence from the game, but there were flashes of good strategy and shot-making, especially during the break of serve in the second set. The match was over all-to-quickly, but the players stayed on to play a 3rd set anyway, as they'd warmed up by then and nobody else was waiting for the court."  -- Ashley

Match of the Group:

Reveal CommentAshley Miller bt Jorunas Barzdzius (Feb 11) 3-6, 6-3, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "A warm Monday afternoon in February; it’s not often you hear that arrangement of words! Having met twice previously, today’s match started steadily, with the first 4 games going with serve. Jorunas was attacking wherever possible though and eased into the lead at 3-2 on serve, before going on to take the 1st set. The 2nd set saw Ashley come out scrapping to try and force a final set and by the end, it was honours even on the scoreboard. The 3rd set became a war of attrition, as breaks of serve and unforced errors crept in from both players. With Ashley leading 5-3, Jorunas still wasn’t done for and came back again to 4-5, before Ashley finally managed to hold serve when required. A thoroughly enjoyable and absorbing match."  -- Ashley
