Vertical Tabs

This is how it works:

  • We have doubles and singles rounds!
  • Players/teams are organised into groups of between 5 to 9 people of a similar standard
  • The league is mixed sex, so men and women play each other
  • Groups are put together by standard and there can be any combination of men and women in a group (we do not guarantee a balance of men and women and you could be the only man in a group of women or vice versa!)
  • In doubles teams may be any combination of gender
  • Contact details are emailed and posted to each player's account page
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is:

  • For everyone over the age of 18
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Don't worry that you won't be good enough - playing matches is the best way to improve, and we use an online questionnaire to assess people's ability so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three sets; if a set reaches 6 games all it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group. Contact details are also posted to your Account Page
  • Players are placed in groups according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Each player attempts to play each of the other player on their group once during the round
  • A point is awarded for each set won
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls)
  • The winner of the group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winner of the group wins a voucher for £20 to be spent in the Local Tennis League online shop. A winner's certificate is also available on the winner's Account Page as a PDF file.
  • Where possible, winners of groups are promoted to the group above for the next round.

"In spite of defeat in both games was great to get on court and have played against a couple of incredibly nice guys (which makes all the easier to lose) who hopefully will able to get some non-league practice in too",

David Wall

"Thanks for organising, it's been great fun,"

Jonathan Macdonald

"We have really enjoyed playing it and will definitely join again next time. Thanks very much,"

Jo Waters

"I really enjoyed it, not sure how I managed to win so many. It is the first league I have ever joined, I wish I had done it years ago,"

Samantha Good

"Thanks to you and your team for all your organising work during the past years!"

Birgen Clausen

"I've enjoyed being in the league enormously and feel my tennis has really improved and hope to join in again in the Autumn."

Reveal CommentDavid Jovic bt Daniel Bourne (Apr 19) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Was happy to come out to Dan’s home club where i was able to play on a proper clay court for the First time in years. Both of us were quite inept at adapting to the new playing conditions at first but the second set was far more competitive and i was Lucky to come out on top. Really recommend going out there to play as its a nice venue"  -- David
Simon Wood bt Tom Harvey (Apr 17) Walkover
Reveal CommentTom Harvey bt Daniel Bourne (Apr 11) 7-5, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Daniel started strong and took an early lead. His serve was particularly impressive, not missing his first serves and hitting the lines. I managed to drag myself back into the set and just about sneak it, which seemed to be the turning point in a closely fought match. "  -- Tom
Reveal CommentDavid Jovic bt Marcos Fernandez (Apr 6) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Unfortunately Marcos’ serve let him down a bit today which kept him from getting into a good rhythm. Had his forehand out though which made for the usual fun rallies and happy to have prevailed despite a loss of concentration in the 2nd set..."  -- David

Current Rankings:

  1. Omar Cader 7.1 [W2, UF1] 4
  2. Dave Loweirnely [W2] 4
  3. Thomas Phillips 7.2 [W1] 2

  5. Seb Creighton 7.1 [L2] 1
  6. Neil Tymlin 8.2 [UF1]
  7. Dejan Mitrovic 9.1 [L1]
  8. Edward Hamill

Match Results:

Reveal CommentThomas Phillips bt Dejan Mitrovic (Apr 19) 7-5, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Fun game with Dejan. The first set we both struggled with the sun on one side of the court and the result was completely dictated by being able to win a single game on that side of the court. The sun went down at the start of the second set and we were able to have some good rallies. Thank you."  -- Thomas
Reveal CommentOmar Cader bt Seb Creighton (Apr 19) 6-0, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "I managed to stifle Seb's game in the first set, but second was more even. I was just a little more consistent on serve and forehand today. Seb has a very good down the line forehand and attacks well from the back of the court, am sure he will keep improving with his dedication and commitment to the sport-always good to see!"  -- Omar
Reveal CommentOmar Cader v Neil Tymlin (Apr 17) 5-5 TBC

Player Comments:

  • "Larkhall Park has two working lights out of eight. Don't bother booking evening matches there until June time......hopefully resume this match at the weekend!"  -- Omar
Reveal CommentDave Loweirnely bt Julian Leichtmann (Apr 15) 6-3, 5-7, 7-6

Player Comments:

  • "Long exhausting match but enjoyable. Neither playing our best so a bit of cat and mouse play. "  -- Dave
Reveal CommentDave Loweirnely bt Seb Creighton (Apr 13) 4-6, 6-4, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Amazing match. Game of aggressive Vs defensive. Tiring but fun and played in good spirit."  -- Dave
Reveal CommentOmar Cader bt Julian Leichtmann (Apr 12) 1-6, 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "You know you're in a strong league when you have players of Julian's quality in Group 2. At 1-6 1-3 down things were looking very bleak, but I hung in there and Julian's level dipped just a little from the great shotmaking and serving in set 1. Great battle, and look forward to the next one!"  -- Omar
