Collapse AllKennington & Brockwell Parks Doubles - Round 27 | Thursday 30 January 2020 to Wednesday 8 April 2020 (Midpoint: Wednesday 4 March 2020)

Well done on getting so many matches played this round, despite some less than tennis-friendly weather. There would of course been even more matches played, had the Coronavirus not stopped played and well done to Andrew & Rachel and Callum & Sally in group 2 for squeezing in a final match before we were all kept indoors! Looking forward to seeing you all back in action when restrictions are lifted!

Group Summary:

A convincing win for group champs Alberto and Gherardo who won three matches without dropping a set and got their bonus points to boot! That made it hard for David and James to catch them, but they had a good run to finish runners up. It was a shame Jesus and Paolo played one match only and that Russell and Nick didn't get going (hope you are ok), but we know doubles is hard to arrange and of course this round was cut short a couple of weeks early.

Final Rankings:

  1. Alberto Silvestri & Gherardo Zarattini [W3] 8 includes 2 bonus points WINNER
  2. David Morley & James Smith [W2, L1] 4 RUNNER UP
  3. Jesus Garcia Gomez & Paolo Giua [W1] 2
  4. Olivia Bowden & James Fulton [L3] 2 includes 2 bonus points

Alberto Silvestri & Gherardo Zarattini bt Olivia Bowden & James Fulton (Feb 17) 6-3, 6-0

Group Summary:

There was a nail biting finale between the eventual champs (Ynda and Adrian) and runners up (Oliver and Simeon) at 4-6, 6-3 and 7-7 in the tie break. It does not get much close than that. It took 8 more points but Ynda and Adrian won 12-10! It was their third three setter in this closely fought group and they needed their one extra win (against Callum and Sally) to clinch the group. Many congratulations to them. Oliver and Simeon were just one point behind.

Final Rankings:

  1. Ynda Jas & Adrian Yip [W4] 8 WINNER
  2. Oliver Husbands & Simeon Johnson [W2, L1] 7 includes 2 bonus points RUNNER UP

Reveal CommentYnda Jas & Adrian Yip bt Callum Hudson & Sally O’Brien (Mar 15) 4-6, 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Another long three setter. The match was pretty tight for the most part with breaks and holds traded and slim margins deciding the first and second sets. Throughout, we had some great rallies and all-court play with varied shots and good shotmaking!"  -- Ynda
Reveal CommentYnda Jas & Adrian Yip bt Charles Holroyd & Sital Gandesha (Mar 12) 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Fun match - we had some nice rallies and both Charles and Sital's serves proved challenging to return/attack."  -- Ynda
Reveal CommentYnda Jas & Adrian Yip bt Oliver Husbands & Simeon Johnson (Feb 29) 4-6, 6-3, [12-10]

Player Comments:

  • "Conditions were a little wet and windy, but luckily relatively calm for most of the match. A very close one with some good, varied play on either side. Both teams won points off solid serves, strong grounstrokes and (often short) slice balls. Except for 3 or 4 quick service holds and a couple of brisk breaks, most games were tight. The same was true of the match tiebreaker - played due to time limitations - in which Adrian and I took an early lead 4-1, but Oliver and Simeon fought back. At 7-7, the match was anyone's for the taking, but we eventually came through 12-10."  -- Ynda
Reveal CommentYnda Jas & Adrian Yip bt Andrew Mackenzie & Rachel Mackenzie (Feb 25) 3-6, 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "While at times we were all competing against the wind and damp balls more than the team on the other side, we battled through it with some good rallies, serves and varied shotmaking. The conditions made it difficult to build and maintain a rhythm, but we crafted a close, competitive contest nonetheless!"  -- Ynda
Oliver Husbands & Simeon Johnson bt Andrew Mackenzie & Rachel Mackenzie (Feb 20) 6-4, 6-2
Oliver Husbands & Simeon Johnson bt Callum Hudson & Sally O’Brien (Feb 8) 6-4, 6-4
