Collapse AllKilburn Grange Park Singles - Round 17 | Thursday 9 July 2020 to Wednesday 2 September 2020 (Midpoint: Wednesday 5 August 2020)

We had 4 groups this round and lots of close and entertaining matches announcing the return of friendly, competitive tennis to the courts of Kilburn Grange Park Tennis League! Overall nearly two thirds of all possible matches were played and this would have been higher were it not for a quiet Group 4. Thanks for dusting off your rackets and supporting your local league though and we hope to see you back in the next round!

Group Summary:

Congratulations to Kaladerhan for finishing as Group 1 champ through a combination of tennis and scheduling skills, with 4 wins and midway bonus points helping him to a one point lead over runner up Tom. Tom won their head to head despite "some superb drop shots" from Kaladerhan on his way to 5 match wins, including 3 setters against Krzysiek and Sean, the latter being an endurance test in the heat! Meanwhile Kaladerhan also had to dig deep to overcome Krzysiek in 3 tough sets.

Player Comments:

  • "This was a great match and Emmet put in a total effort that made it difficult the difference was consistency, but once he gets that sorted, he'll pose a whole lot more problems especially his blistering serves and big forehand which is very deceiving as he hits it so late.. As for me this is my first ever win in group 1 as I normally lose all my matches and get relegated back into group 2 which feels like an eternity after coming so close in my previous two games and a whole big monkey off my back, I'm now going out to drink a few celebratory cold beers and probably a few more Slàinte Mhath!"  -- Finlay

Group Summary:

It was close at the top of Group 2 as well with Jack finishing a single point clear of runner up Ed by winning one more match. Ed was the only player to earn scheduling bonus points though and it was otherwise a fairly quiet group unfortunately with a number of matches left unplayed. Despite this there were 2 entertaining 3 setters won by Andy and Ed respectively, with Andy's win over group champ Jack receiving "commendations from bystanders" as they walked off... nice one!

Group Summary:

This was a low scoring group unfortunately with only 2 matches completed and 3 players not getting out of the starting blocks! Neil and Lionel made the most of their match though playing a cracking 3 setter which Neil finally won in a third set tiebreak, however the point Lionel earned from taking a set off Neil helped him secure the group title by a single point. Fingers crossed for more matches completed in the next round!
