Player Comments:
- "Annoying on numerous levels: it rained and then cleared up on the way back, I didn't take some match points in the second set, Hugh didn't get a chance to take the second set and was serving at 6-5. My strings broke on my favorite racquet. it wasn't supposed to rain after 4pm! no chance to complete the match. Apart from that it was a good match played in the best spirit! " -- Julian

Player Comments:
- "Despite the strong wind and grey skies we had a terrific match, very tight all the way through with neither player ever having the ascendancy. It should probably of gone to 3 sets as Julian was clear in the 2nd set tie break but I was let back in it managed to finish it off. Anyway, having a pint in the club house was definitely nicer than a 3rd set on a cold windy day." -- Robert
Player Comments:
- "Joe started slow but he then took the second set easily through huge serves and big f hands. third set was epic. I broke early and saved over 10 break points to get to 30-30 5-3 up. I had an easy volley for a match point but missed it as I must have been thinking about a pint in the club house. Before you know if i'm serving to stay in the match at 5-6. Breaker Gods were shining on me as I had a net chord go my way and Joe just missed a slice that would have been a clean winner, so instead of being 4-2 down at changeover I was up by this score. Just about managed to creep over the line here but Joe played the more aggressive and positive tennis and deserved to have the win not me " -- Julian

Group Summary:
Congratulations to Carsten for following up promotion by topping Group 2, his 6 wins taking him a single point clear of runner up Thomas. Thomas put up a good fight in his first ever league match against Carsten and demonstrated his "strong forehand" while David impressed with 6 wins too but missed out on midway bonus points by being slower to get started.

- "My tennis has improved for every match in this league and today I played my best yet. In the first set I barely made an unforced error and somehow hit tons of winners off both wings. A rare but great feeling :) Second set was very close and Stephen hit some powerful forehands and served well. I was pleased to keep calm and get over the line. Thanks Stephen for a fun match !" -- Paul

Player Comments:
- "Tom has got a great game with a speedy flattish forehand and a tricky low backhand slice. I had to play my best to win and luckily I did. The third set was quite tight with less winners than in the opening two sets and from 4-2 down I decided to really focus on staying relaxed and loose and played pretty well in the final stretch. Thanks Tom for a really fun, competitive match! " -- Paul
Player Comments:
- "Could easily have gone either way. Raf was unlucky not to come out on top of a number of long exchanges which could have swung the match" -- Thomas
Player Comments:
- "First time playing against Joe and this was a very enjoyable match with lots of close games and good tension throughout. Joe has deep groundstrokes with topspin off both wings and a lovely low crosscourt backhand slice that took some time getting used to. I am pleased I managed to keep my focus throughout, which was needed, especially after being pulled back from 5-2 up in the 2nd set. Even managed a few forehand down the line winners, which is a rarity :) Thanks Joe for the match!" -- Paul
Player Comments:
- "was toms first local league match, needed a few games to get into it but almost got back to 5-5 from 0-5 down. second set was a long game at 5-4 needed a match points to get over the line and tom unlucky not to take the break points, strong forehand, good game thanks" -- Carsten
Player Comments:
- "We managed to play our game an hour earlier than planned to avoid the coming rain, which worked out pretty well. Joe and I have played at least a couple of times before, with honours roughly even I think. Today there were probably a couple of pivotal moments in each set that could have led to a closer score, but overall, I guess I won this one due to a greater level of consistency and too many unforced errors from Joe. As always though, this was a fun match, featuring some great topspin forehands from Joe and some brilliant topsy-turvy rallies. " -- Raf
Player Comments:
- "think we both struggled to get going and started with 4 breaks in a row with a lot of unforced errors. second set i feel we both started hitting the ball better and there were quite a few winners and good points. thanks for the game" -- Carsten
Player Comments:
- "Always good fun against Carsten -had to work hard (and hit some good returns) to narrowly edge him out" -- David
Player Comments:
- "This was our second meeting, and it certainly wasn't as convincing as it appeared. At times I had to hang on for dear life as Tom upped his power and aggression. Thankfully, I got very lucky with balls hitting the line and Tom missed a fair few shots that I am sure he would normally put away easily. A fun match and I look forward to our next meeting." -- Raf
Player Comments:
- "First time playing Stephen. We played at his club under floodlights, which was fun. When Stephen sped off to a 2-0 lead, playing excellently I might add, I feared the worst. I fought for everything, and thankfully for me some unforced errors crept into his game. I still have no idea how I won the first set 6-2, when so many of the points were so close and hotly contested. Stephen again raced to a 2-0 lead in set 2. I fought back hard taking it to 4-2 to me, with a great chance for 5-2. However, Stephen fought back brilliantly to take it to 5-4 to him, and then 6-5, before I brought it to a TB. He started well but I managed to recover to 5-5, before I limped over the line. This was an extremely tough and physical contest." -- Raf
Player Comments:
- "took more than 2 hours for 2 sets, good fight in the end was up 5-2 and failed to serve for the match 3 times before just getting over the line in the tiebreak, fun matchup with Paul good on the baseline and me trying to get to the net a lot" -- Carsten
Player Comments:
- "This was our third meeting, with it 1-1 up to today. That said, Paul had almost total control of our last match, and on the back of a difficult match against Carsten yesterday, I must admit that I was fearing the worst to some extent. Thankfully, I was much more prepared for today's match than yesterday's, and I had a clear gameplan based on my shortcomings in our last match. Overall, I guess I won because I was more consistent and Paul seemed to hold back on his shots a little. That said, it was tighter than the score suggests, in the second set at least, and when Paul came back from 4-1 down to 4-3, there were a couple of points that could really have changed the course of the match. This was a fun match in the very hot sun (on one side)." -- Raf
Player Comments:
- "enjoyed the game, good fight for every point" -- Carsten

Tom took the first set playing very controlled tennis hitting some great shots, I managed to take the second managing to up my game, but from 5-2 down Tom pushed me right to the end. In the third set I got off to a good start again going 5-2 up, but Tom's resilience and great play especially on the backhand side helped him to come back and go 6-5 in front. - "Andrew to serve on resumption. Curtailed due to low light at Ladywell, but so far an exciting match. " -- Eoin
- "A great match played over two days that was a fitting end to both of our league matches. Eoin took the early impetus and dominated the first set and I was lucky to get 3 games. Second set nerves I managed to find a way back into the match and the score flattered. Bad light stopped the 3rd early before we finished at Ladywell on another day. Was tense to the end with myself only sneaking over the line. Thanks again Eoin" -- Andrew

- "A very enjoyable match with Gabby. We were both delighted the rain eased long enough for the court to dry off a bit and for us to have an uninterrupted match. Lots of good solid rallies and Gabby took angled winners off any short balls I hit. Enjoyable math. Thanks Gabby. " -- Eoin

Player Comments:
- "Early start on a humid and misty morning in Ladywell fields. Court a bit slippy which hampered our mobility a bit, but got into a good match that was closer than the score line suggests, esp in the second set. Thanks. Tim. " -- Eoin
Player Comments:
- "Really good match. Incredibly close first set where we traded a lot of breaks. We both had set points, James at 5-3 in the first, but he didn't miss his chance when he had one again in the tie break having already saved a set point from Eoin. The second and third sets scoreline don't reflect that there were quite a few deuce games. Overall, a really enjoyable match in blustery conditions at Mayow park. Thanks James. " -- Eoin

Amy Parker bt David Pottinton (Sep 27) 5-7, 6-3, 6-4Player Comments:
- "I really enjoyed playing Amy. It was obvious that she is a much more natural player than me so she can’t have enjoyed having to return my unpredictable slice and unintentional spin (though she was too polite to say so). About half of the games went to deuce and could have gone the other way but for a lucky bounce or net cord. " -- Alastair
Player Comments:
- "Initially Imogen and I intended to play at 6am, however it was far too dark to play once we arrived. We eventually started at 6.30 and had some really good rallies. We had a really enjoyable game.. Thanks Imogen " -- Doris
