Reveal CommentNav Aulkh bt Harpal Singh (Nov 30) 6-0, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Played Harpal in difficult windy conditions. I managed to acclimatise better in the 1st by slicing through the windy conditions. I knew Harpal would step up afew gears in the 2nd set and he didn't disappoint with many cross court whipping backhand winners and numerous volleys at the net. I managed to hold on and cross the line. Well played Harpal. Hopefully next time the conditions will be better. "  -- Nav
Reveal CommentTom Courtenay-Evans bt Helen Southall (Nov 28) 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Really enjoyable match with Helen on a very cold Sunday afternoon which we finished in the snow! Helen is a terrific tennis player and puts away any half court balls with great style. The score line certainly flatters me and I look forward to playing again."  -- Tom
Reveal CommentBen Bradshaw bt Tom Courtenay-Evans (Nov 25) 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (5-7), 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Second time playing Tom, and I knew it was going to be another serious battle. We were only able to complete 2 sets during our first session due to both sets going to a tie-break. There was very little between us and we both took a set each. A fair outcome I think on the day. Where the game was close, I didn't feel like the quality of when we met in season 22 was there. We finished the game 1 week later and 30 minutes in I thought I was down and out at 4-0 down. I took the 5th game and was happy with what felt like a consolation game at the time. This game spurred me on and I was finally able to cancel out Tom's amazing forehand passing hots with a couple of drop shots of my own, which helped me see the match out Thanks Tom "  -- Ben
Reveal CommentBen Bradshaw bt Harpal Singh (Nov 23) 6-0, 3-6, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Second time playing Harpal so I was expecting a close run thing. The first set went well for me, Harpal didnt seem to find his rhythm, but I knew he would come back fighting in the second set. I think a touch of complacency and Harpal finding his form made for a completely different second set, in honesty I didn't know how deal with some of the angles that Harpal was producing and he took the set. I desperately needed the second set to go and the third to come, and I found some better shots and was able to see the game out. Harpal is a great player and I know anyone facing him in this league will have a tough match. "  -- Ben
Reveal CommentNav Aulkh bt Justin Kenny (Nov 22) 6-4, 7-6 (7-2)

Player Comments:

  • "First time playing Justin and the toughest of the campaign so far. Justin is a really good tennis player who is comfortable in all areas of the court. His backhand down the line shot is a match winner. 1st set I just managed to stay ahead by coming into the net to shorten the points. 2nd set Justin started the stronger and was quickly 5-0 up. My form picked up towards the end and I managed to win the 2nd set on a tie break. Well played Justin looking forward to our next match"  -- Nav
Reveal CommentNav Aulkh bt Luca Martinengo (Nov 21) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Second time playing Luca and he has clearly improved. The score line doesn't reflect the number of deuce games that could have gone Luca's way. Good hitting from both sides with both topspin and slices from Luca. I managed to stay in the rallies longer and see the sets out"  -- Nav
Reveal CommentTom Courtenay-Evans bt Jaffar Djabbarov (Nov 20) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Jaffar is obviously a good tennis player but rusty. I hope he doesn't get dispirited by his scores in this round and sticks with it as I'm sure his results will improve quickly with a few more matches under his belt."  -- Tom
Harpal Singh bt Jaffar Djabbarov (Nov 19) 6-1, 6-1
Reveal CommentNav Aulkh bt Jaffar Djabbarov (Nov 13) 6-3, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "First time playing Jaffar and it was an entertaining game of tennis. Jaffar is just getting back to tennis after a long absence. He clearly has great technique and passion and with more matches under his belt he'll become more consistent and starting winning matches. Looking forward to our next match Jaffar"  -- Nav
Reveal CommentBen Bradshaw bt Jaffar Djabbarov (Nov 6) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "A pleasure to meet, and play with Jaffar today for the first time. Jaffar had both a nice backhand and forehand, and got around the court well. With some more match practice Jaffars confidence will grow and he will win some games in this league. Thanks for the game!"  -- Ben

Match Results:

Reveal CommentAlastair Wood bt Andy Silver (Nov 27) 6-0, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Well done Andy for braving the chilly conditions, after seeing rain snow and sleet this morning we were lucky to see it stop just as we begun. Nevertheless very chilly and quite windy, and the slippy court left the door open for drop shots. Andy knows his way around the court and I think today’s result was reflective of current practice levels more than anything. A good few deuce games and Andy had me rattled winning the first two games of the second set, but I was lucky to find serve form to close it out. Thanks for a fun match Andy."  -- Alastair
Reveal CommentMartin Gray bt Kundan Kumar (Nov 21) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "A lovely (although chilly) morning for tennis. It was great to meet Kundan. We had some nice rallies although the score doesn't reflect that. Good luck with your remaining matches, Kundan!"  -- Martin
Darin Crosby bt Kundan Kumar (Nov 20) 6-1, 6-0
Reveal CommentAlastair Wood bt Kundan Kumar (Nov 17) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "A real pleasure to meet Kundan today and introduce him to local league tennis. Kudos to him for moving to the area and signing up straight away! I was lucky to be in form today and it was a quick match. Kundan has some impressive topspin shots and found some great angles. I reckon he’ll have developed these further next time we get to play."  -- Alastair
Darin Crosby bt Martin Gray (Nov 16) 6-2, 6-0
Reveal CommentAlastair Wood bt Martin Gray (Nov 13) 7-5, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Quite the drama today. I struggled to contain nerves as I had not played competitive tennis before. First game was a shock, as Martin seemingly effortlessly zipped serve returns past me low to corners. Compounded by a slip and fall trying to reach an extreme back spin drop, and realising to my horror my shoes had no tread. Broken first game. First set was neck and neck until I failed to claw back to 4-4. Very tricky adapting my game to hitting such hard shots away from an excellent ball striker. I was fortunate to escape two set points at 5-3 and nab the set without a tiebreak. After an exhausting 1st set the 2nd took less time. I commend Martin’s sportsmanship and attitude, and I’m honoured he was my first opponent."  -- Alastair
