FREE TENNIS BALLS
Every player who completes three matches by the midway point of any round is sent a FREE can of tennis balls! Plus there are great offers all the time in our shop.
This is how it works:
- Players are organised into groups of between 5 to 9 people of a similar standard
- It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
- Groups are put together by standard and there can be any combination of men and women in a group (we do not guarantee a balance of men and women and you could be the only man in a group of women or vice versa!)
- Contact details are emailed and posted to each player's account page
- Players arrange their own matches
- You can play on any court that suits both players
The league is:
- For everyone over the age of 18
- We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
- Don't worry that you won't be good enough - playing matches is the best way to improve, and we use an online questionnaire to assess people's ability so you play only people of a roughly similar level
- Affiliated to the LTA For adults aged 18 years and above
Key points
- Matches are best of three sets; if a set reaches 6 games all it is decided by a tiebreak
- The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group. Contact details are also posted to your Account Page
- Players are placed in groups according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
- Each player attempts to play each of the other player on their group once during the round
- A point is awarded for each set won
- If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls)
- The winner of the group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
- The winner of the group wins a voucher for £20 to be spent in the Local Tennis League online shop. A winner's certificate is also posted to the winner's Account Page as a PDF file.
- Where possible, winners of groups are promoted to the group above for the next round.

- "Mo, thanks for a great match...or shell I say almost 3h absolute battle. The first 2 sets were extremally close with some long and exhausting rallies with both of us playing very consistent tennis. I managed to pick up myself in the 3rd and eventually won this event. Yet again you have improved your tennis a bit further. Good luck with your next match and hopefully we can play soon again. " -- Adam
Player Comments:
- "Another tight match today in the Carisbrooke Dome not played Ismail for a couple of years now so was nice to play again, Ismail raced ahead with early break of my serve to go 2 -0 and went on to win first set 6-4 hitting loads of winners off his forehand. Into the second set Ismail raced ahead again to lead 4-1 but I fought back to level it going on to win that set 6-4 and then win third set 6-0, looking forward to having another match soon! - "Good battle today Eamonn. Luck was definately on my side with me winning all the net cords, sorry about that. Think Eamonn’s serve was a bit off today but enjoyed the match where I won a fair bit at the net which is not normal for me lol. Well played" -- Aaron
Player Comments:
- "A final match before lockdown 2.0. Playing Aaron was always going to be my toughest match in the group. I started very well and Aaron failed to serve as well as he normally does. The score line flattered me in the end and the match was thoroughly enjoyed. We even played a bonus set at the end which went to a tie break before the flood lights turned off to signal the end of the match as well as the end of this round in LTL. " -- Rehaan
Player Comments:
- "What a topsy turvy match, it went this way and that. I started the quicker after 2 breaks of serve each, and everything seemed to come off as I took the first set 6-2. In the second Joe started to get his consistency back and was coming up with some great shots and tactics, as I stuttered. The third set looked like being a tense affair and it was, I just edged ahead 4-2 and kept my nose in front with my serve becoming more precise and returns bringing a return. Well played mate. A great battle. This is me bowing out from this round, it’s been great to get a few wins under my belt after the previous rounds loses. Stay safe everyone, and stay sane in Lockdown 2.0" -- Owain
Player Comments:
- "We started at 7am, the earliest either of us have ever played a Local League match. After some problems with the lights in the LFE bubble we got into the match and I played on of my best ever sets winning 6-2. The second set was a marathon, lots of long rallies and when I eventually managed to break and was serving for the match Joe broke back. We then had to vacate the bubble and continue outside on clay courts with really blustery wind. The change of scenery did neither of us any favours and having to cope with real weather after the perfect conditions in the bubble was a big challenge. Another two long games followed and I managed to close out the second set. Shortly after the heavens opened so we were lucky in the end. Great game Joe." -- Eamonn
Player Comments:
- "Great topsy turvy match today Shuaib took the lead in both sets for me to pull it back. There were some flashes of greatness and some great cross court winners. Serve was a bit ropey from both sides. Well played and we’ll get a friendly sorted soon" -- Aaron
Player Comments:
- "Great evening for a tennis even if it was a tad cold and windy when we first got on court. Ammaar was impressive in the warm up with his serving and when he took the very first game by breaking my serve, I’m not going to lie I got a bit nervous. Ammaar struggles to hold serve in the first set but that was definately rectified in the second set. Ammaar took the first game of the second set again and went 3-1 up I managed to pull it back and went 5-4 up for Ammaar to start serving how he did in the warm up lol, just a little unlucky in the tie break but I was set for a decider. Great match with a great guy well played and good luck in your remaining matches" -- Aaron
Player Comments:
- "This was exactly like a Chen Vs Owain encounter. Loads of great hitting, defence, and short ball tennis. He had me stuck in the mud at 1-4 in the first and I really had to dig deep to bring it back level. I suddenly found my stride and took the first set, only for Chen to bring it back to 5-5 (as I’d done in the first set) when I was 4-1 up in the second. This one went to a tiebreak and luckily I took an early lead and manage to hold on to it to see the match out as the heavens open and soaked us both. Always a pleasure playing you mate, we have some great battles and I look forward to the next one. " -- Owain
Player Comments:
- "Unfortunately Leicester City Council have decided to make these courts membership only, £42 for the year and £6 per hourly booking. This is such a shame. Anyway, to the tennis. Amaar is a lovely bloke, another fair player, a credit to the league. We spoke of all things Covid during change overs and discussed how our lives have changed in these weird times. Amaar has a lot of power and when he gets his match play more regular will be a force in this league. It was a great tussle and the score doesn’t reflect how close the games were, lots of deuce games. Thanks for the match mate and good luck with your next ones. " -- Owain
Player Comments:
- "My back is screaming at me after this marathon of a match. Loads of rallies and great attacking tennis, along with great defensive work from both players. A high quality match which made the unforced errors even more frustrating. Each set was a similar story really. I was 4-2, 5-1, and 5-2 up in each, respectively, close games all, only for the momentum to swing towards Shuaib who came back in the first to win it and scared the hell out of me that he was going to do the same in the others. I managed to slightly change tactics in the second set by forcing my way in when the opportunity came. Shuaib’s forehand had me pegged back all the time. Great match mate. Good luck for your next one. I’ll sleep well tonight. " -- Owain
Player Comments:
- "Always a great game against Lin and for the first time I managed to get the upper hand - some really good tennis all round with much more consistent hitting than our previous encounters - Lin hit some outstanding lobs to go a break up, serving at 5-4 for the set - I somehow managed to break back and take the set - I think every game in the second set then felt like it went to Deuce with some high quality hitting - great game thoroughly enjoyable as always!" -- Joseph
Player Comments:
- "In the first set I played some of the best tennis I've played in a long time. In the second set my level dropped and his increased. He started playing really consistent tennis coupled with a wonderful serve. In the end - I was a tad fortunate to come through with the win in the second set. Really nice guy and I wish you the best in the rest of your matches." -- Rehaan
Player Comments:
- "Thanks for the match, looking forward to playing again." -- Simon
Player Comments:
- "Really good game with Ammaar who is a great opponent - a game where Ammaar was growing into it - and the rally we had afterwards suggested I was lucky to get it wrapped up - when your forehand is firing as it was in the second set and rally after it’s a real weapon - look forward to next time!" -- Joseph
Player Comments:
- "As expected, a very difficult match. The first set I went 4-0 down and struggled to recover. Owain was kind enough at the end of the set to let me into the clubhouse to get some water as I had foolishly forgotten mine! The next 2 sets were extremely hard fought with extremely long rallies. It was exhausting! Really enjoyed the match and I wish you the best with the rest of your games. " -- Rehaan

- "This was a marathon battle lasting over 3 hours. I got off to a good start in the first set , although the scoreline flattered me. I got ahead 4-2 in the second before Chen fought back and comfortably won the tie break. I managed to get 5-2 ahead in the third before another super comeback. I somehow managed to get the tie break over the line. A superb match with a top bloke." -- Simon
Player Comments:
- "Nice early start in the cold but lovely conditions. Was nice to try the tennis courts at Victoria Park. Was an enjoyable match and I wish you the very best in your next few matches." -- Rehaan
Player Comments:
- "Ok another 3 setter where we both started a bit rusty to be fair but joe clearly made less mistakes than me going up 5-1, i clawed it back to 5-4 for joe to just seal the set. Set 2 was a replica of the first but vice verse I took a 5-1 lead. All to play for in the decider I broke straight away but then joe broke back I was all set for a tie break to be honest and joe managed to save about 16 match points but a backhand down the line clinched it. Cheers for a great match joe friendly already being scheduled, think he wants his revenge" -- Aaron
Player Comments:
- "The first set was a frustrating set for me, close, tense and full of mistakes. It was a great battle though and Simon played really well and took his chances to put me away. That spurred me on in the second and third set and with a change of racquet I managed to hit the court more and find my rhythm a little better. It was a mighty game of chess but I dug my heels in and managed to take it in 3. Well played Simon and good luck for the next one. " -- Owain
Player Comments:
- "Another epic match with Lin the opening set was so tight and Lin had a chance to serve it out at 5-4 and then again at 6-5 but failed he also took the lead in the tie break it was anyone’s set luckily I took it. Second set Lin changed it up a bit and I was making more mistakes so he took it easily then at one set all he had a toilet break which seemed to be his downfall as he lost the first 12 points of the decider with a 3-0 lead I felt good and took it after Lin double faulted on match point. Well played as ever and we’ll arrange a rematch soon, loved playing at Loughborough university those courts are ACE!!!" -- Aaron
- "Worst timing for a toilet break!" -- Lin
Player Comments:
- "Tough match, lots of long gruelling 15+ shots rallies, Eamonn was very consistent as usual and really made me work hard for each and every point. Look forward to playing again soon. " -- Lin
Player Comments:
- "It was a pleasure meeting and playing against Ammaar, top bloke! Some of the groundstrokes winners and serves he put past me were awesome and left me standing in admiration. All the best in the rest of your matches." -- Shuaib
Player Comments:
- "This was a great match against a player I always have a tough battle with. I started off well and I think that both my forehand and backhand were performing well. Owain managed to break me twice in the opener. Second set was tight at 2-2 then I took the next 3 games to lead 5-2 for Owain to make a bit of a come back and he definately had his chances to level it at 5-5 but luckily I kept my calm and held serve to take the second set and the match. Well played Owain good luck in you remaining matches it’s going to be another tough league" -- Aaron
Player Comments:
- "This was a good match in great conditions under the floodlights. Very enjoyable and look forward to playing again. " -- Rehaan
Player Comments:
- "A tough match in very windy conditions. Eamonn served very well in the first set and I was really finding the conditions difficult, with the wind either taking my backhand slice long or far too short. In the next 2 sets I adjusted slightly better to the conditions and was able to come through with the win. As always a pleasure Eamonn and best of luck for your next matches. " -- Rehaan
Player Comments:
- "An enjoyable game played in very blustery conditions. Gruelling second set that could have gone either way in which Eamon played much better and more tactically. It was a pleasure meeting you. Good luck in the rest of your matches." -- Shuaib
Player Comments:
- "A really tight first set, which I just managed to edge in the early morning heat of these strange playing times. In the second set I started to find my range more and my short ball was working a lot better. Lots of long rallies towards the end of the match as I was looking for the win. Most games going to deuce as well, so the second set was probably as close as the first, If not in games. Good luck for your next match Eamonn, well played, always a pleasure. " -- Owain
Player Comments:
- "Shuaib hosted us at Manor Road on a clear evening. We had some really good exchanges with Shuaib finding the line with some great ground stroke winners - unfortunately Shuaib’s serve never quite got going which was a shame as when it did fire, it was brill and had me worried - an enjoyable game and workout - look forward to meeting again soon!" -- Joseph
Player Comments:
- "This was a really enjoyable match on a very warm late September weekend. I got off to a good start in the first set before Ammaar fought back. I managed to get it over the line. It was a similar story in the second set. Some really good rallies and at times unplayable shots from Ammaar." -- Simon

- "Another great 2.5 hours battle with Joe, very competitive and lots of fun. Joe had won our match in summer league but i was lucky enough to win this match. We played after work at night under floodlights at Joe home Melton courts- Joe busy with new job. Joe much the best player in 1st set- playing shots i only dream of !! eg down the line backhands and great net volley returns. 2nd set a dog fight ending in tiebreak. During 2nd set Joe had nasty fall on slippy leaves and really appreciate him continuing match. 3rd set we had run out of booked court time so moved to a court that was slippy with leaves and uneven surface- this poor surface court suited my game better. Thanks for a fun and competitive evening Joe." -- David
