Reveal CommentOwain Ford bt Ismail Bham (May 4) 3-6, 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "That was a titanic battle. We always seem to play these long 3 setters and this one was no different. I thought the writing was on the wall when Ish raced to a 4-0 lead. It was all I could do to claw back a few games in that first set as he was returning me off the court. The second and third set couldn’t have been closer with each game pretty much going loooong into deuces. I was lucky that from somewhere I found the energy to stay with Ishmail and mix up my shots a bit so as not to be predictable. I am absolutely shattered now and that is definitely the best tennis I’ve played in this league. I needed it too, to win against a top player and top bloke. Cheers mate. Ice bath needed now. "  -- Owain

Match Results:

Reveal CommentEamonn Canavan bt Lin Chen (May 6) 6-3, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "We were lucky to get the last court of the six available, nice to see so many people playing tennis. The conditions were challenging with a swirling, blustery wind which made it difficult for both of us to play our normal game. Lin played with his normal positive strokes and pulled off some great winners but the unpredictability of the wind meant it was difficult for him to get into his stride. We both saw shots that would normally land well in sail wide but in the end I managed to win through. Thanks for the match Lin, and good luck in your new job."  -- Eamonn
Reveal CommentEamonn Canavan bt Simon May (May 2) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Another wonderful day for tennis. We had plenty of long rallies and Simon played a tactical game, getting in at the net and finishing off points really well. I made the breakthrough in the sixth game and managed to hold on after that. Look forward to playing again."  -- Eamonn
Reveal CommentDarryl Clarke bt Lin Chen (Apr 28) 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "It was an enjoyable match today and enjoyed the long rallies. The first set I got going fairly quick and the first serves were flying in regularly. There's no doubt lin has a powerful forehand and a great game but wasn't working for him today. Its always a pleasure playing lin we have great matches. Good luck for your next matches mate "  -- Darryl
Reveal CommentDarryl Clarke bt Simon May (Apr 27) 4-6, 6-4, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "A really enjoyable friendly but competitive match with Darryl. The first two sets were extremely close with lots of long rallies. Darryl played superb in the 3rd set making few errors. Well played Darryl."  -- Simon
Reveal CommentEamonn Canavan bt Tim Ettrick (Apr 26) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "It was a pleasure to play Tim again, this time in Victoria Park. The courts are great and the surroundings were an interesting combination of skate park and walk in Covid test centre. We had an absorbing match, with plenty of long rallies. Our style of play is similar so it was a case of who blinked first and plenty of running to keep the rallies going. An enjoyable match on a warm and sunny day."  -- Eamonn
Reveal CommentLin Chen bt Tim Ettrick (Apr 24) 6-3, 5-7, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "First match against Tim in nearly 2 years and it was an epic 3 hours battle. The 1st set was cagey as we both struggled to find our rhythm and we were content to just play it safe and pepper each other's backhand, the set all the sudden exploded into life in the last game, trailing 3-5 Tim played more aggressively and it almost paid off, the highlight of that game and the set was a crazy 20 backhand shots rally. Tim carried on attacking through out the 2nd set, hitting a lot low slices and volleys to take the set. The 3rd set was a real dogfight, every point was hard fought. The pivotal moment was when I saved 3 breakpoints at 3-4 to level the score, that deflated Tim's spirit a bit and gave me the push to go on and take the match.
Reveal CommentSimon May bt David Stark (Apr 22) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Great to play David again. Both sets were level at 3-3 and I managed to find the extra push to take them 6-3. A bit of rustiness from us both but still thoroughly enjoyed David's company. Another cracking sunny day for tennis too. Good luck in the remaining games "  -- Simon
Reveal CommentLin Chen bt Simon May (Apr 20) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Enjoyable match played on a sunny afternoon, we were both a bit rusty so this wasn't quite the 3 hours 3 sets classic of our last match but we still had plenty of good games today with lots of long rallies, it was great to be able to play tennis again! Cheers Simon for coming down, all the best on your next match. "  -- Lin
Reveal CommentDarryl Clarke bt Tim Ettrick (Apr 20) 6-2, 7-6 (7-3)

Player Comments:

  • "Great to play Daryll again. Match followed strings of each player taking games. Daryll the first three, me the next two, Daryll the next three , me the next three, but then we started to alternate winning games and were evenly matched for a while , till we reached the tie break in the second set. We had some amazing rallies on a good Summers day. Looking forward to our future contests , Daryll. Well played"  -- Tim
Reveal CommentDarryl Clarke bt Eamonn Canavan (Apr 18) 4-6, 7-5, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "A warm, still day for our first match. We had plenty of long rallies and in the end it was Darryl's better finishing and shot placement that won the day. We left the court weary but happy to be playing tennis singles again. "  -- Eamonn

Player Comments:

  • "It was an absolute pleasure to meet Andrei and to play Tennis yesterday evening. Andrei's serve is unplayable for me when he gets it right - I found myself watching him rather than the ball as he tosses the ball so high in comparison to my serve. Really impressive! We had a good battle in the second set and could easily have gone to a third. Hopefully we can play again soon :) Many thanks"  -- EDWARD
