Reveal CommentOwain Ford bt Lin Chen (Feb 20) 6-4, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Chen and I battled it out in a slight drizzle chasing not only a win but our bonus points as well. A great match full of good shots and very clever tactical play from both of us. I managed to nick a very close first set and then raced into a 5-1 lead in the second. I thought I had and then Chen pulled it back to 5-4 with some great slice backhands and his brilliant topspin forehand. I had to summon all of my strength and focus to win that one more elusive game to pinch the set and the match. Chen's a great guy and I look forward to our next match up, it's 1-1 in our alltime head to head now. Good luck for the rest of the round. "  -- Owain
Reveal CommentEamonn Canavan bt Lin Chen (Feb 19) 6-4, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "My third and last game of the weekend and another brilliant day for tennis. I won the toss and went into a three game lead only for Chen to peg me back and win the next three. We were playing plenty of long rallies and built up a good sweat. The first set finally went my way and we continued to our rallies into the second set which finsihed well for me but left us both exhausted. All the best Chen for you next matches."  -- Eamonn
Reveal CommentOwain Ford bt Callum Mclennan (Feb 19) 4-6, 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Great match this morning, quite mild out there. Really close between Callum and I, as it was in the last round. This time however I managed to pull ahead in both the 2nd and 3rd sets and see them out. Thanks for the game and good luck in your next one. "  -- Owain
Reveal CommentEamonn Canavan bt Owain Ford (Feb 18) 4-6, 6-3, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Owain got off to a great start winning two marathon games to go into a 2 -0 lead and despite my best attempts (and more long duece games) I could not catch him and Owain won the first set. It was an exhausting first set and I was tired but managed to find some reserves of stamina to win the second set. By now I was finding it hard to keep focused and was wishing I had eaten more for breakfast as my energy levels were well depleted. Plenty more rallies but in the end I won - the first time I have played a three set match in Local Tennis League. Well played Owain and all the best for future matches."  -- Eamonn
Reveal CommentEamonn Canavan bt Callum Mclennan (Feb 17) 6-2, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Super evening for a match, much better than last weeks snow and rain. Callum got off to a quick start, producing some great forehand and backhand top spin shots and pushing me all around the court. I managed to hang in and gradually put together some games to close out the first set. We both struggled with our serves, but Callum started to find his range in the second set and was producing aces with alarming regularity. It was very close in the second set but it eventually went my way, just in time as the lights went out 2 minutes later."  -- Eamonn
Reveal CommentInderjit Bedi bt Eamonn Canavan (Feb 11) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Eamonn played very well, conditions not ideal, (it was snowing!) and the bounce of the balls was definitely affected by the moisture in the court. Some fantastic rallies, enjoyable match but glad to be back indoors in the warmth! "  -- Inderjit
Reveal CommentDaniel Sieczko bt Eamonn Canavan (Feb 10) 6-3, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Bit cold morning for tennis but after few minutes none of us thought about weather as we had lots of long rallies with dropshots and corner to corner hits. Really enjoyed it, Eamonn was running to everything and all balls were coming back so i had to attack to win anything. Closer match than result shows just bit of luck decided about many many points. Thanks Eamonn and good luck in rest of round."  -- Daniel
Reveal CommentDaniel Sieczko bt Lin Chen (Feb 7) 6-1, 6-1

  • "Great to finally start the league and meet Lin again. Took us a while to get back into tennis after month off and we had really enjoyable match. I'm glad it finished early as Lin looked better and better every minute we played. Thanks mate and good luck in your next games!"  -- Daniel

Reveal CommentDan Warren bt Shuaib Variava (Feb 21) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "A very tense first four games in the first set all going against serve to make it 2-2, I somehow then managed to get the crucial hold after a break to go 4-2 and found that I relaxed more and kept the ball in play to win the crucial points but it must be said that Shuaib kept me on my toes with his fantastic array of ground strokes, one forehand volley winner being the best shot I've seen. The second set again was very tight to being with and again Shuaib had his chances to make the score more reflective of his play, but by his own admission made quite a few un forced errors allowing me the advantage. First time I've met Shuaib a I must say what a top bloke and very good tennis player. Hope to meet again soon, and good luck in your matchs "  -- Dan
Reveal CommentDan Warren bt Liam Mullis (Feb 18) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Very pleased with my performance in this one, Liam is a tricky opponent with a horrible awkward second service that gave me some trouble at times. First set went well with some good rallies and at five two up I felt Liam played better from this point, I managed to win the set with some good winners . Liam carried momentum into second which was tied at three breaks each until I managed to get the crucial break and then service hold too see match out. Thanks for the match Liam. "  -- Dan
Reveal CommentShuaib Variava bt Thomas Baines (Feb 18) 6-3, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Great match against Tom who is very difficult to beat. Tom has a quick first serve with the accuracy to pick his spot and a tricky backhand slice both of which gave me a hard time. Tom was more relaxed in the second set and played better which meant I had to be on top of my game. I'm sure Tom will go on to pick up a lot more points in his remaining games. It was a pleasure meeting Tom at his club (Carisbrooke) and I look forward to playing with you again soon."  -- Shuaib
Reveal CommentDan Warren bt Gary Phillpott (Feb 17) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "First time I've played Gary and I'd like to say what a pleasure it was to meet you, thoroughly enjoyed the match. The first set score flattered me I believe with Gary serving quite a few double faults that helped me along. The second set I relaxed more and played some good lobs and got my first serve in more consistently but again Gary had his chances in the set. Top guy and I hope we can play again soon. "  -- Dan
Reveal CommentShuaib Variava bt Aaron Darby (Feb 16) 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Aaron started off superbly in the first set breaking my serve twice to take a 3-0 lead. He played some great forehand shots and returns on serve. The next two games were shared between us. Despite being 4-1 down and thinking I had already lost the first set, I managed to find some consistency and form and went on to win the next 6 or 7 games in a row. Aaron made a good comeback in the second set and made it very difficult for me. This has been the toughest match for me so far. Well played Aaron - a very enjoyable match. Look forward to playing again soon."  -- Shuaib
Reveal CommentTim Ettrick bt Dan Warren (Feb 9) 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "This was a bruising and tough hard fought out match in the snow under the lights at LFE. After getting to 5-2 in the first set it's safe to say I had enough chances to see it off but with Tim you have a player who always makes you play that one extra shot and after plugging away he made it 6-6 and ultimately had the momentum for the tie break taking it comfortably, the second set I got into a much better rhythm and this time managed to capitalise on my adavantage. The final set was a tough topsy turvy affair with both of us having chances to swing it either way but as stated above Tim gives up on nothing and ultimately used this to his advantage and took the set. Tim is a top bloke and I wish him all the best for his remaining games. "  -- Dan
Reveal CommentShuaib Variava bt Gary Phillpott (Feb 8) 6-1, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Fortunate to have good winter weather for an evening game of tennis, not too cold and no wind or rain. Gary got better and grew in confidence as the game progressed. He played quite well in the second set with lots of good winners, quick first serves and tricky second spin serves. At one stage I was thinking this could go to three sets! A great guy and a pleasure to play with. Best of luck in your future matches."  -- Shuaib
Reveal CommentLiam Mullis bt Aaron Darby (Feb 7) 7-5, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "A horrible, mentally draining game against a horrible, awkward and tricky opponent, first set nobody held serve in the first 8 games, and I managed to see it out 7-5, second set was much better from me initially, taking a 5-2 lead and hitting the best ace I've ever hit, in my head I'd won, big mistake, before I knew it the score was 5-5 but managed to see it out 7-5 again, Aaron played well and could have taken both sets, if either player clamped down on the unforced errors it would have been a comfortable win for them, it was a tough game but still throughly enjoyed it, Aaron was a very awkward opponent for me, the kind of opponent I hate to play against, so I was glad of the win, looking forward to playing again."  -- Liam
Reveal CommentLiam Mullis bt Gary Phillpott (Feb 6) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Good to play Gary again, definite improvement in his game, we had a couple of brilliant rallies, enjoyed it overall and was good to get the first game in."  -- Liam
Reveal CommentAaron Darby bt Greg Moore (Feb 6) 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1)

Player Comments:

  • "What a match which could of gone either way once Greg had found his range. We played some great tennis but I think we buckled under the pressure in the third set. Greg lead 5-3 and was serving for the match at 5-4 he had a match point at 40-30 but I broke serve to make it 5-5 he then broke me again I thought it was all over at 6-5 ( 30-0 ) but then I came back to force the tie break and clinch the match. Great game Greg and I definately look forward to playing you in the future. All the best with your remaining matches ."  -- Aaron
Reveal CommentTim Ettrick bt Aaron Darby (Feb 5) 6-2, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Great Game with some close games . Aaron did a great come back in the second set. Clay courts were fatastic. Thanks for an exciting match Aaron. Well played !"  -- Tim
Reveal CommentThomas Baines bt Aaron Darby (Feb 5) 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Had a cracking match with Aaron, much closer than scoreline suggests.Lots of deuce games with some great points.Good luck Aaron and thanks for the match.Tom"  -- Thomas
Reveal CommentDan Warren bt Greg Moore (Feb 4) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "The score doesn't really reflect the fact that Greg played some good shots that just narrowly missed. There was also several deuce games that were close and could of gone either way. Great to meet you Greg and good luck with the rest of your matches. "  -- Dan
Reveal CommentGreg Moore bt Gary Phillpott (Feb 3) 6-4, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Nice to meet and play Gary again! We had a fantastic match on the clay, which was much, much closer than the score would suggest. Gary's improved loads since we last played and he definitely could have taken this one! Well played mate, best of luck in your upcoming matches!"  -- Greg
Reveal CommentDan Warren bt Thomas Baines (Feb 3) 7-6 (7-3), 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Very nip and tuck first set where after taking a two set lead Tom kept pegging me back with some lovely chip shots in and around the service box, neither of us seemed ready to relinquish the set and so a tie break ensued, Tom missed his chances to take a 3-0 lead in the tie break and I was fortunate to take advantage and see it through. Found my range a bit more in the second set but again was pegged back to 3 all but then managed to find some consistency and see the match off. Tom played some cracking tennis and I'm sure he will definitely get more points on the board this round. Well played tom and thanks for a great match. "  -- Dan
Reveal CommentAaron Darby bt Gary Phillpott (Jan 31) 7-6 (7-4), 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "this was a great match where momentum swung both ways in both sets. it was a tight match with lots of long games. great energy throughout and I must admit im happy to get a win under my belt. Gary did most of the running and lead 4-0 in the first set but then I took a 2-0 lead in the second for Gary to then win 3 games in a row. Good luck for your future matches Gary and we'll definitely hit again soon Aaron"  -- Aaron
Reveal CommentDan Warren bt Aaron Darby (Jan 31) 7-5, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Great to get first game on the board. Played in the wet at lfe. First set was a close affair with both of us having chances to jump ahead, Aaron's forehand was on fire. Second set was closer than score suggests as at 3-1 Aaron had break points which could of made things very different indeed. Aaron is a fellow member at lfe and a good player and top bloke who I wish the best for in his next matches. "  -- Dan
Reveal CommentShuaib Variava bt Tim Ettrick (Jan 31) 6-2, 7-5
