Reveal CommentNimesh Purshottam bt Owain Ford (Sep 26) 7-5, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Great match and equally great opponent. I raced off to 4-1 lead than Owain pin me back got to 5-5 then tight couple of games I manage to secure the first set. The theme carried on in the second where I raced off to 3-0 and Owain again pegged me to back 4-3 but I kept one game distance to see the set off after a long and hard fight. well played Owain and best of luck in the remaining fixtures."  -- Nimesh

Reveal CommentMatthew Blaney bt Aaron Darby (Sep 20) 4-6, 6-3, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Well, that was a great match of tennis on a beautiful evening at LFE Tennis Club on the clay. It was by far the closest of any of my 5 matches so far in this round, with lots of great rallies. From good defensive moments from both myself and Aaron to drop shots from both of us. Every rally was hard fought. My first singles match on clay, it took a while to get used to the movement, this went to Aaron's advantage in the first set, in the 2nd set I started to get used to the style of play, although I tried my best to give Aaron the set which I eventually served out before winning the third in more comfortable fashion. Great game Overall Aaron, looking forward to our next meeting. "  -- Matthew
Reveal CommentOwain Ford bt Jay Radia (Sep 20) 6-3, 4-6, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Well I do like a 3 setter, and this match was no different. I’m absolutely exhausted now after a titanic battle with Jay. What a great entry to the draw, a fair and friendly player who never gave up on anything. We both have similar styles which is why this one went the distance. I managed to take the first set with my short balls coming off very well. Then I managed to take a 4-1 lead in the second set which Jay clawed back by playing more consistently with a change of tactics. I just couldn’t find a way to win it. Luckily in the third set I started to go for my shots more and was relieved to get over the line at 6-3 as I don’t think I had another game in me. Great match. Thanks Jay. "  -- Owain
Reveal CommentAaron Darby bt Owain Ford (Sep 16) 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Another 3 setter against Owain but some really good shots today from both of us. Should of finished it in 2 as I lead the tie break but then again Owain lead the second set all the way so deserved a point today. Well played matey good luck in your other matches"  -- Aaron

Player Comments:

  • "An early morning match between me and Ed. An enjoyable game of tennis, well done Ed to bring back the first set score of 5-0 to 5-4 before unluckily losing 6-4. Good luck on the rest of your matches. "  -- Matthew
Reveal CommentMatthew Blaney bt Shuaib Variava (Sep 9) 6-2, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "A very well contested match, first set 1-1 there was a 15/20 minute game with 10+ deuces. Started at just after 6pm at Carrisbrooke and had to switch to Victoria to have floodlights. Look forward to playing again soon Shuaib. "  -- Matthew
Reveal CommentNimesh Purshottam bt EDWARD MORGAN (Sep 8) 6-4, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Ed is a top man and great sportsman and excellent match etiquette. Very contrasting style of play with good defence by Ed. Lots of long rallies and enjoyed the match very much. Played at Oadby Tennis great courts. All the best Ed for the rest of the fixtures."  -- Nimesh
Reveal CommentAaron Darby bt Jay Radia (Sep 7) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Great to get the first game completed! Well played today jay it was super hot so didn’t want to be playing too long lol think we were both sweating after the warm up. Think it was a bit closer than the scoreline suggested."  -- Aaron
Reveal CommentMatthew Blaney bt Darryl Clarke (Sep 6) 6-4, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "A very good match, lots of good rallies. Daryl played well to bring the first set deficit of 5-1D.B. back to 5-4 before I won the First Set. The 2nd set was still well contested with lots of 10+ shot rallies. Overall an enjoyable match. "  -- Matthew
Reveal CommentNimesh Purshottam bt Darryl Clarke (Sep 5) 6-2, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Both sets were very tight and hold serves. I manage to get a breakthrough in 6th game and again on the last game of first set to close out. Second set I had a break of serve but Daz broke back straight away and stayed on service and until I got the break at 6-5. Daz played some amazing back hand and forehand shots. I enjoyed the shot exchanges and very high quality tennis. Nice sunny evening and courts are nice to play on. Thank you Daz all the best for the rest of the matches."  -- Nimesh

Match Results:

Reveal CommentJoseph Stack bt Paul Morris (Sep 27) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "An enjoyable game from two retired Rugby stars! There were some hard fought deuces, with Paul taking the first on my serve, it set the scene for a good match - fortunately the last deuce of the game that went on for what seemed like hours, went my way for the victory - but only after Paul had peppered the lines a few times! Look forward to next time! "  -- Joseph
Reveal CommentTim Ettrick bt Lin Chen (Sep 25) 2-6, 6-3, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Lin getting an early break in the first set, after some crucial deuces meant that he had the upper hand in the first set . The second set was a real dog fight (if that's the right term) with both of us playing cautiously but consistently, with long rallies. It was a relief to snatch the set. The third set was even more of an epic battle, but having got a break early on , I did have a 3-1 lead at one time which , as with the first set when Lin had a 3-1 lead , it meant a big phychological advantage. So on a perfect, albeit muggy day our epic 2 and a half hour match ended , how it always does between us , with a three set result. Look forward to the next one Lin."  -- Tim
Reveal CommentJoseph Stack bt Tim Ettrick (Sep 22) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Really enjoyable game and great to get back up to Victoria Park. Tim was a great host and made sure the impromptu roller skating lesson adjacent to us didn’t encroach! The score didn’t do the match justice with plenty of deuce games, but somehow my shots stayed the right side of the line for a change. Tim battled for every point and came to the net particularly well - looking forward to the next one Tim!"  -- Joseph
Reveal CommentSimon May bt Mayur Vadher (Sep 19) 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "We played on a wet day at Victoria Park. I got off to a good start in the first set, though the scoreline flattered me. Mayur grew into the match and started the second set well by going 2-0 up. I leveled it to 2-2 and then it was on serve up to 4-4. Two more close games with long deuces and I managed to get the set and match over the line. Nice to meet you Mayur and good luck with your remaining matches. "  -- Simon
Reveal CommentPaul Morris bt Mayur Vadher (Sep 18) 7-5, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Good to play Mayur over at Abbey Park today. Fun match as both of us always try to outdo the other. In the first set I jumped out to a 5-2 lead with set point only for Mayur to begin the comeback getting back to 5-5 before I managed to close it out at 7-5. As it got warmer I had to knuckle down to take the second set despite Mayur's hitting lines and playing some great forehands. Good luck in the rest of your matches!"  -- Paul
Reveal CommentLin Chen bt Chris Glover (Sep 18) 3-6, 6-2, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Fantastic match against a really good player, Chris got off to a flying start, quickly raced to a 4-1 lead by hitting some lovely cross court forehands and backhand slices. I managed to regroup in the 2nd set and slowly got used to the clay court and Chris' shots, the final game of the set was a real dog fight, lasted well over 20 min and had 10+ deuces. Winning that tough game spurred me on in the 3rd set, I got the break early on and held my nerve to serve out the match. What a game! Look forward to the next one soon mate. "  -- Lin
Reveal CommentTim Ettrick bt Paul Morris (Sep 15) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "The match followed similar patterns in both sets with Paul taking a 2-0 lead, but in both sets the tide then turned. Not sure what the key factor was, but nevertheless Pauk played a great game and we are probably more evenly matched than the score suggests."  -- Tim
Reveal CommentChris Glover bt Simon May (Sep 15) 7-5, 6-4

Reveal CommentLin Chen bt Mayur Vadher (Sep 10) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Good game against Mayur, lots of long rallies. "  -- Lin
Reveal CommentTim Ettrick bt Mayur Vadher (Sep 8) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "The score suggests a comfortable win, but this was anything but that. Clearly there were deciding points- like one of my shots hitting the net and creeping over to win a game that gave me a crucial lead in the first set. Other deciding factors were the sun and wind- the former affecting our serves early in the match and allowing me to benefit from extra double faults-always an easy way to win a point !. Fortunately in the second set the sun had moved around more. There were also some epic rallies- the longest one which I managed to win and maybe gave me an important advantage. In spite of the very hot day it was a great match . played against a very sporting opponent. Well played Mayur. I look forward to the next one."  -- Tim
