Player Comments:

  • "This was, as always, a fiercely competitive match. Jon’s forehand was devastating and I had to work very hard and play strategically to get this win. I think I was probably helped by Jonathan not having played that much this time around. I am certainly looking forward to the next time we meet on court but I am also prepared for a very tough match."  -- Michael

Player Comments:

  • "Pleasure to share the court with Michael again. Really enjoyable match with some great rallies! Always made me play that extra shot which puts the pressure on. Thanks again for the match mate. Hope to play again soon."  -- Brandon
Reveal CommentLiam Keelan bt Jonathan Scally (Sep 11) 7-5, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Close first set with Jonathan, despite being 5-2 up let Jonathan back in. Second set was able to find a consistency that Jonathan was unable to match. Cheers for the game and best of luck in your other matches"  -- Liam
Reveal CommentDanny Elder bt Michael Petalas (Sep 9) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Always great to share a court with Mike. I know when i play Mike, i have to be on it from the start. A switch goes on when i play him. My forehand was on fire today, i didn't want to miss. I felt unstoppable. I was playing like Tarquin. Lol. "  -- Danny

Reveal CommentBrandon Goudie bt Jonathan Scally (Sep 4) 6-3, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Good to play Jonathan again at Mossley Hill. Fortunately the rain held off for us so we were able to play first thing! Jonathan has a great forehand, just a few too many errors than he would of liked today unfortunately, but an enjoyable match nonetheless. Thanks again and good luck in your other matches."  -- Brandon
Reveal CommentMichael Petalas bt Graham Hughes (Sep 2) 6-2, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Graham played excellent tennis and the score of the second set is much more reflective of the close games played throughout our match. It’s a real pleasure to hit with Graham, he’s a great guy and an impressive athlete. Looking forward to our next encounter."  -- Michael
Reveal CommentDanny Elder bt Brandon Goudie (Aug 29) 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "All the plaudits to Brandon. I like watching the way he hits his shots, even though i'm on the wrong end of them. Lol. His game is faultless from the back of the court and the forecourt. I told him he's like Spiderman, because of his agility, reflexes and speed. Some balls he was getting to was just insane. I was up in the lead in all of the sets, but the first set and the second set Brandon played exemplary and i didn't seize my chances. He was leading 6-4, 6-5, 0-30 up, so getting defeated was about to be a reality. From the 3rd set, I think i got stronger and Brandon got a little weaker and that's how it ended. Great to play a great player. Cheers for that match, Bran. Lol"  -- Danny
Reveal CommentBrandon Goudie bt Graham Hughes (Aug 28) 6-3, 6-4

  • "A great game Brandon, thank you." -- Graham
Reveal CommentDanny Elder bt Graham Hughes (Aug 28) 6-2, 4-6, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Played in clear blue skies on a sunlit day. Graham defied his age and displayed a lot of stamina and stickability. His physical fitness is seemingly stronger and his running side to side scrapping balls back is to be applauded. He was hard to shrug off. His 1st serve was not easy to return. It goes to show you can better with age, not go downhill. Cheers Graham, and it was one of best matches i've played in."  -- Danny
  • "A great game against a great player, thanks, Danny." -- Graham
Reveal CommentLiam Keelan bt Brandon Goudie (Aug 21) 6-2, 6-4

Reveal CommentMarian Cerina bt Tomos Rhys Owens (Sep 11) 3-6, 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "The match with Rhys today was really very difficult for me... I had many problems with his very good backhand... in the remaining sets I had to tighten up my game and spin a bit, which helped me because he made a lot of mistakes from his forehand... I see great prospects for him, especially if he improves service and forehand in the future... his defensive was also impressive... thank you Rhys and I look forward to the next time" -- Marian
Reveal CommentRob Slade bt Tomos Rhys Owens (Sep 5) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Tomos looked really rusty in the warm up so a surprise when he took the first game of the match, served an ace in the first point of the second game and had me on the ropes, on the defensive, for most of the first set. He had a good backhand which always nullifies our lefty game plan. Lots of long hard fought rallies so the match a lot closer than the score suggests. "  -- Rob
Reveal CommentAleksandras Kadilinas bt James Matheson (Sep 5) 6-0, 6-4

  • "This was my third time playing James, and the second time I won. He took a little while to warm into the game, which made for a very competitive 2nd set. I look forward to playing again soon!"  -- Aleksandras
Reveal CommentAlistair Corbelli bt Aleksandras Kadilinas (Sep 3) 6-2, 2-6, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "This is the third time we’ve played in the tennis leagues and once again was a great match of tennis, the first set Alek was struggling with his serve which meant I had a few more free points and took pressure off my own service game. The second set Alek served ridiculously good I couldn’t even get him to deuce which is very rare as return is my best attribute and he broke me twice solid set of tennis. It could have gone either way in the third but I managed to get that break of serve in the 7th game which was enough in the end to take the deciding set. "  -- Alistair

Reveal CommentAlistair Corbelli bt Tomos Rhys Owens (Aug 21) 6-4, 5-7, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Tomos came into the match losing the first 4 matches he had played so I did underestimate him and in the first set it was all going my way with Tomos making a few unforced errors and not being confident with his hitting. But totally different story in the second set he played great in all aspects of his game and was much more confident with his shots which made him really difficult to hit through and throughly deserved to win the set. The third set I think I was down 15-40 but managed to save a couple of break points and won the game where I then broken Tomos a couple of times and ran into an early lead in the final set which ultimately was enough to take the match. With a few more matches he will be a lethal opponent for anyone in the leag"  -- Alistair
Reveal CommentMarian Cerina bt Aleksandras Kadilinas (Aug 20) 6-4, 2-6, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "It was my second time playing Marian. Although this game was a lot closer than the one we played around 18 months ago, I was still unable to beat him. Thanks for the match and hopefully we'll play again soon!"  -- Aleksandras

Ed started like a house on fire in the second taking a deserved 5-0 and holding out for the set. At the end of the match Ben reflected that he just run out of energy to a degree after those games and never got back into his stride fully again. Having said that he played some beautiful long forehand shots to my backhand which I rarely reached throughout the match. Unfortunately, Ben put a lot of other shots out with unforced errors as well which is reflected in the final score. • "My first time playing at LCC Tennis Courts and I had a great game with Wulf. Wulf has a really great serve but, as he admitted, doesn't manage to get it in on the 1st serve often enough. Wolf's best shot, at least in my opinion, are his drop shots with a lot of spin on which just died on the courts at LCC. I had to work hard to win this match and, as is often the case, the score doesn't fully reflect how the games went to and fro. We were lucky with the weather but it was very hot and humid but not too sunny fortunately. I suspect some of my arranged matches may well be cancelled due to the coming storms over the next week so it was good to get this match completed."  -- Tony
