Player Comments:

  • "Good match, lots of long rallies, and good tennis and football talk in the excellent Sefton Park cafe after. Today’s tennis match was a Blackburn v Burnley match! "  -- Rob
Reveal CommentDanny Gallagher bt Michael Petalas (Apr 10) 7-6 (7-3), 0-6, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "A fun match with a few momentum changes."  -- Danny
Reveal CommentEdward Mills bt Bernhard Leube (Apr 5) 6-3, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "It's been a while since I've played on the free courts in Sefton Park and I found it difficult to get used to the slant, and they seemed a little short. We played a tight 1st set which swung my way towards the end with a bit of fortune on some key points. I managed to carry that momentum into the 2nd set although the games remained close. Bernhard has a good 1st serve and attacked at the net well, playing some very good drop volleys. Thanks for the game!"  -- Edward
Reveal CommentRob Slade bt Bernhard Leube (Apr 3) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Excellent long tough match with lots of rallies and deuces. Sefton Park cloudy but very spring like - lots of birds nesting on the trees by the courts including an affectionate pair of green parrots (this is true!) "  -- Rob
Branislav Prievoznik bt Danny Gallagher (Apr 2) 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, 6-1
Danny Gallagher bt Rob Slade (Apr 1) 6-4, 6-3
Reveal CommentMichael Petalas bt Edward Mills (Mar 30) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Really enjoyed meeting and hitting with Ed. You know you’re playing a true sportsman when you have to argue that your shot was out! Great guy, excellent tennis player, and a thoroughly enjoyed match. "  -- Michael
Reveal CommentEdward Mills bt Peter Baxter (Mar 28) 6-3, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "This was an enjoyable match played over two sessions. In the first session I managed to edge a close 1st set and we started the 2nd set in a similar manner. In the 2nd session the intensity wasn't the same and I managed to run away with the set by being more consistent. We played another set after which was much more even so I was glad to win the match when I did. Peter is a similar player to me, with good ground shots hit with lots of top spin, although his serve is much better!"  --Edward
Reveal CommentMichael Petalas bt Peter Baxter (Mar 27) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Despite coming back from a serious illness, Michael proved too strong for me. There were some close games and enjoyable rallies, but the result never in doubt. Great to play with such a competent player, and hope to take a few more games off him next time! "  -- Peter
Reveal CommentDanny Gallagher bt Bernhard Leube (Mar 19) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Match played in a friendly atmosphere against a happy Bernhard."  -- Danny
Reveal CommentDanny Gallagher bt Edward Mills (Mar 13) 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6)

Player Comments:

  • "Where do I start about this titanic tussle. Match time 2h 1/2 hours. Played indoor and outdoor because we ran out of our allocated time indoor. Eddie had 4 match points, 3 of them at 40-0 on his serve at 5-4 final set. The 4th match point at 6-5 in the final set tiebreak. We had to switch to playing outdoor at 6-6 and play the tiebreaker outdoor. Not before 2 geezers strolled on our court mid rally 5 minutes before they were due to come on and just make themselves at home. I in Lehman’s terms told them that’s not the Tennis code of conduct and they should wait on the platform, because that’s what it’s for. Which they did. Eddie is very tenacious and good at defending. I got away with one there."  -- Danny
Reveal CommentRob Slade bt Peter Baxter (Mar 11) 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Liverpool Tennis Centre Outdoor painted tarmac courts - good condition but high bounce & slow. A sunny Spring day, warm, 10degC, and wind ok - 10mph with 21mph gusts (just about ok for Tennis). A while since I’ve played on tarmac so I struggled with the high bounce and I played mainly a defensive game. Peter played the better tennis, hitting a lot of good attacking ground shots, forehand and backhand, and a lot of good serves. 2nd set could have gone either way. "  -- Rob
Reveal CommentBranislav Prievoznik bt Rob Slade (Mar 9) 6-1, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Branislav Prievoznik, Bran to his friends is a good player, likely to win this league. He has one of the best forehands I’ve played against, so I’m dumb not to realise that he was left handed until I was 4-0 down and that being a leftie myself I had been feeding his forehand for four games. After that the games were much more even, most going to deuce, by my playing on his much weaker backhand and attacking his weak second serve. He’s also bit podgy so making him run is a good tactic. If you are winning a match as comfortably as Bran was, why the need to celebrate winning shots, i.e. self praise? Isn’t winning easily enough of a buzz? Is the object to make your opponent feel extra bad? "  -- Rob
Reveal CommentDanny Gallagher bt Peter Baxter (Mar 6) 6-3, 4-6, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "A very good display from Peter. He showed how much he has improved his Tennis. His technique, speed around the court and recovery shots were impressive. He deserved to win, I didn’t deserve to win playing like that. My game was ragged. A competitive 2nd and 3rd set, especially the 3rd. Thanks for the game, Peter"  -- Danny

Reveal CommentAtsushi Uchida bt Peter Hardy (Apr 17) 7-6 (7-5), 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Thanks for the match, Peter. Last time when we played, it was very windy and I lost the match. This time was slippery at Princes Park but slippery might have helped me, as I had to be careful for each shot and that could let me concentrate more than usual, although I've got my hand scratched and bleed by falling down 2 times. I look forward to playing with Peter in the next round."  -- Atsushi
Reveal CommentPeter Hardy bt Steven Segerberg (Apr 14) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Very enjoyable match with Ste, the scoreline, particularly in the second set makes the match look a lot more one-sided than it actually was. Lots of deuces and long games in the second set once the court had dried and we had lots of good rally exchanges. Look to forward to playing again in the future!"  -- Peter
Viktor Marinov bt Atsushi Uchida (Mar 30) 6-2, 6-4
Atsushi Uchida bt Ernie Traynor (Mar 28) 6-3, 6-0
Reveal CommentViktor Marinov bt Steven Segerberg (Mar 25) 5-7, 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Great match ! In the first set I was not concentrated enough and allowed 3 breaks. I tried to bring back two of them, but Steven was more focused and managed to close the set for 7-5. in the second set, I managed to focus and found the right kick. After two breaks I managed to close the set for 6-2. The third set was identical to the second one and that was enough. A great match Steven, hope to see you on the court again. "  -- Viktor
Reveal CommentViktor Marinov bt Ernie Traynor (Mar 22) 7-5, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "A well contested game. Evenly matched. "  -- Viktor
Reveal CommentSteven Segerberg bt Atsushi Uchida (Mar 13) 6-4, 0-6, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Fantastic match with Atsushi in Princes. After a close first set that I just edged Atsushi won 7 straight games. I managed to get back on track and eventually got in front in the final set. 5-3 up in the final set serving for the match Atsushi saves at least 5 match points before he broke serve. I managed to then break his serve. Atsushi is one tough opponent and I can't wait for our next match. Cheers"  -- Steven
Reveal CommentSteven Segerberg bt Ernie Traynor (Mar 11) 7-5, 3-6, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "A great way to open the group and play outdoors for the first time in 2018 at Liverpool Cricket Club in Aigburth. The first set was extremely close with me just edging it. Ernie then bounced back and took the second set. 2-0 down in the final set I fought back to go 5-2 up. Ernie then got back to 5-4 before I just about got over the line. We both played with a smile on our face with great passion. Cannot wait to play Ernie again. An absolute pleasure. Spring is finally upon us and hopefully more great matches. This will take some topping."  -- Steven
