This was a great group's tennis with matches played in good spirits and lots of interesting match commentaries. Congratulations to Branislav for a successful return to league action topping the group with 5 wins and finishing one point clear of Danny. Danny had a strong round too with 4 wins including a hard fought first set against Ioannis before easing clear in the second, a pattern that was repeated in his match against James. Rob and Ioannis battled it out for 3 hours, although some of that was the change of ends chats(!), while Michael managed to sneak a win against George in 2 close sets.

Group Summary:

Congratulations to Atsushi for winning the group on his return to league action, notching up 4 wins to finish 2 points clear of runner up Steven. This was a jump of 2 places for Steven from last time, a well earned position after displaying fighting qualities in a very close second set against Danny. This match was played in the autumn sunshine in contrast to Steven's match against Atsushi which must have followed a downpour as the courts were slippery and hampered movement. Atsushi and Carl's match spanned 2 instalments as it was dark by the time the first 2 hard fought sets were complete!

Reveal CommentSteven Segerberg bt Danny Woodworth (Oct 27) 6-2, 7-6 (9-7)

Player Comments:

  • "Another tight match with Danny at Mossley Hill in glorious autumn sunshine. I always feel with these league matches the first set is always a crucial one and I was lucky to enough to get off to a good start. The second set was a fantastic battle that could have gone either way. 2-1 up and 40-0 up I let it slip and Danny broke me to go back level. I then found myself 5-3 up but Danny then fought back again to go 6-5 up. I couldn’t face a third set. I managed to take it to a tiebreak. 4-0 up I then let it slip again as Danny got level again. I eventually crawled over the line 9-7 with an awful lot of relief. Cheers for the match Danny. Great courts in Mossley Hill."  -- Steven

  • "Don’t be fooled by the score. James is a great addition to the league who will no doubt shock a lot of players with his strengths which will only improve with time and matches. His cross court shot is a serious weapon. Every game of the second set was a deuce game which just shows how close it really was. Good luck James in the rest of your matches and I look forward to playing again soon. "  -- Steven
