Player Comments:
- "The first Manchester Tennis league match for both players and potentially the season, Antonio and Owen started group 9 off with a fun, competitive match. In the first set, after falling 2-0 behind, Antonio mounted a comeback following a short rain delay. From 2-2 however, Owen managed to regain momentum and win the set 6-2 with many close games going to deuce. In the second set Owen, for the most part dominated proceedings as unforced errors began to creep into Antonio's play. Although rallies and games remained interesting, in the points that mattered Owen consistently had the edge winning the set and thus closing out the match 6-2, 6-0. Overall a great match in sunny Fletcher Moss leaving both players looking forward to the rematch!" -- Owen

Collapse AllManchester Parks Doubles - Round 5 | Thursday 22 August 2019 to Wednesday 30 October 2019 (Midpoint: Wednesday 25 September 2019)
To get more than three quarters of matches set up and played in doubles (with four diaries to juggle ... never easy) is quite an achievement. And these were impressive, action packed matches. Thanks so much for making it such a good round. Let's do it all again in the New Year!
Group Summary:
All but two matches played in Group One which is a brilliant achievement! Just as pleasing are the generous and supportive commentaries which really bring it all to life. The stand out team was Faiz & Callum who played and won all their matches but there were some tough encounters along the way, not least of which was the dramatic three-setter with Daniel and Tom. In the end Daniel and Tom have to settle for third place with Andrew and Martin avenging their defeat to the pair (another great match) by adding bonus points to earn the silver.
Final Rankings:
- Faiz Almansour & Callum Rothwell [W6] 14 includes 2 bonus points WINNER
- Andrew Barnes & Martin Medina [W3, L3] 10 includes 2 bonus points RUNNER UP
- Daniel Tierney & Tom Gathercole [W3, L1, UF1] 8
- Daniel Mohsin & Yusuf Yaqub [W3, L1] 8 includes 2 bonus points
- Stephen Warne & Stephen Purver [W2, L3, UF1] 7 includes 2 bonus points

Player Comments:
- "A really enjoyable, well-contested match which lasted three hours and was played over two evenings. Almost every point had to be ground out with long, long rallies and deuce after deuce - and some very impressive returns of service! Daniel & Tom – thanks for a great game that was friendly and fun and sporting throughout . Good luck with your remaining fixtures," -- Martin
Player Comments:
- "One of the most enjoyable doubles games in a long time. Lots of long rallies with great shots from all players. Second set virtually every game went to deuce, meaning the floodlights went off in the 3rd set with the score appropriately even at 4-4. Well played guys." -- Stephen
Player Comments:
- "Mark and David made us run a lot. Some very close games and fun rallies! It was really enjoyable and we continued playing afterwards. Thanks guys! " -- Tiago
Player Comments:
- "On paper a straight forward win - far from it and I knew this would be the case as I’ve played against Billy before. 2 very close sets that could have gone either way. I think if they were to do doubles again they would win a few games for sure. We even did a 3rd set that was tied at 5-5 when the lights went out. Well played, guys " -- Callum
Player Comments:
- "Good game, cheers lads." -- Tom
Player Comments:
- "The game was much closer than the scoreline suggests and included some of the best serves and ground strokes we’ve encountered. The court we had booked was closed due to a problem with the security door so we had to book another court a few miles away. Tiago & Billy - thanks for an enjoyable and friendly game – and good luck with your remaining matches." -- Martin
Player Comments:
- "Plenty of close games and long rallies. Well played Martin and Andrew" -- Callum
Player Comments:
- "You made a real fight for it in the second set recovering from 0-4. We even did an extra couple of sets and mixed up the doubles partners to get our moneys worth! Good fun - cheers for the game lads " -- Callum
Player Comments:
- "Good competitive match. Second set could have gone either way - only one break of serve. We played at David Lloyd in Cheadle, courts are quality!" -- Callum
Player Comments:
- "We last met in the doubles tournament when we were both in Group 2. This was a thoroughly enjoyable match against two good players. We’ll definitely play again outside the tournament. The match had many deuces, some very long, hard-fought rallies with a good many recovery shots that no-one had the right to get back over the net. And Andrew and I had a couple of lucky net calls at critical points in each set. Thanks Mark and David for a super-friendly and super-competitive match – and good luck with your remaining games in the doubles and singles." -- Martin
Player Comments:
- "Thought me and Faiz played well and Stephen didn’t play how they know they can. Thanks for the game lads. Good luck to both of youse in your singles clash!" -- Callum
Player Comments:
- "A friendly and enjoyable opening match played in the dark and the rain. I can barely remember a game that didn’t go to deuce and the rallies seemed to go on and on and on - and I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many shots land on the line. Stephen and Stephen – thanks for a sporting and challenging game and good luck with your remaining matches." -- Martin

- "Great game, thanks lads." -- Tom

Group Summary:
This really close group was decided by a single point, a point earned in an unfinished match between Victoria & Thomas and Francesco & Anuraag. It looked like that was shaping up to be a classic so if a single-set shoot-out has to decide the group winner this was a pretty good one! Well played to both teams on your excellent rounds.
