Reveal CommentMatthew Davis bt Simon Reeves (Sep 27) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Nice hit with Simon on what was a greasy but quick court. Not many rallies in set 1, I managed to break early and carried that advantage until 5-2 where I broke again to take the opening set. Into set 2 and much more competitive with some good rallies and shots by both. Again I took and early lead breaking for 2-0 but Simon came back strongly and broke me back for 2-2. A couple of tight games followed which I managed to sneak before serving to love to make it 5-2, another break then followed which gave me the set 6-2 and with it the match too! Thanks for the game Simon! "  -- Matthew
Reveal CommentMatthew Davis bt Arnoldas Miliskevicius (Sep 25) 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "What a game! The first set was my best set of tennis in recent memory and the most attacking I have been in some time! An early break was enough to take me to the point where I served for the opener but Arnoldas came up with a good game and broke me for 5-5. Into a tie break it went where I found a couple of forehand winners and then managed to come up with a drop shot to take the tie break 7-5! Arnoldas came back strongly in the second and took it 6-2 with some strong play! He then carried that momentum into the decider and raced out to a 5-1 lead. A couple of loose games from Arnoldas brought me back into it at 4-5 down where he served for the match, I managed to break him and carried that momentum into the next two games to seal victory!"  -- Matthew
Reveal CommentGregory Heath bt Lee Wadhams (Sep 24) 6-2, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Nice match this morning with Lee. Weather was pleasant. Lee has some very good shots and technique and has definitely improved since our last match. I also feel better with playing singles and I think my fitness level has increased. I'm thinking about the points a bit more and concentrating on my serve which is very important in singles because there is a lot of court to cover. Thanks Lee for coming all the way to Thrapston. Good luck in your remaining matches."  -- Gregory
Reveal CommentArnoldas Miliskevicius bt Gregory Heath (Sep 16) 7-5, 4-6, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "A very close match with some good rallies. Very tiring and with the light fading by 7pm it could have gone either way. I should have closed it out leading 5-2 in the 3rd set, but a change to defensive play from Arnoldas, and too many unforced errors from myself looking for winners, meant I lost this one. Good luck Arnoldas in your next matches."  -- Gregory
Gregory Heath bt Antony Clegg Lafuente (Sep 13) 6-2, 6-0
Reveal CommentMatthew Davis bt Antony Parselle (Sep 11) 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Nice morning for a game however the court, due to the previous nights rain, made the conditions super fast and this certainly gave advantage to the server. Lucky for me I produced one of my best service performances and managed to zip through my service games at a quick pace. Just the one break was the difference, breaking Ant in his opening game, to take the first set 6-3. Second set and again I got off to a quick start, moving into a 3-0 lead. Ant then play a couple of good games to bring it back to 3-2 before we played a fairly lengthy game which could have fully swung the momentum in Ants favour, however I managed to hold for 4-2 and then carried that momentum to take the next 2 games and with it the match. Look forward to the next One!"  -- Matthew
Reveal CommentGregory Heath bt Matthew Davis (Sep 9) 6-7 (6-8), 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Great match with Matty. The first set was a tight affair and could have gone either way but Matty just nicked at 8-6 in the tie break. The first game of the 2nd set was extremely long but I managed to win it which spurred me on to make a big lead. The 3rd set could have been closer but I dug in and pulled away again. Thanks Matty for a very competitive game and I look forward to playing you again. Good luck with the rest of your matches."  -- Gregory
Reveal CommentJanis Trofimovs bt Jackie Callow (Sep 7) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Was nice to meet with Jackie and play one more game before my holiday. Really enjoyable match of tennis. We got some nice and long rallies and I very like Jackie was very competitive even the score line it's not showing that but she was try her best for evry point. Well done Jackie and Good luck to you on your next games. "  -- Janis

Reveal CommentMatthew Davis bt Lee Wadhams (Sep 3) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Nice morning for a game though it was fair to say Lee was still suffering from his match the previous evening. I managed to play consistently throughout and keep the games short. After moving to a 4-0 lead Lee managed to pull a couple back before I closed out the set by taking the following two games. The second set was more straightforward and I managed to wrap up the victory in under an hour. Look forward to our next game Lee! "  -- Matthew

Player Comments:

  • "Another tough match, but enjoyable, match against Janis. Some awesome and exhausting rallies."  -- Lee
John Tiernan bt Darren Rideout (Sep 2) 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1
Reveal CommentArnoldas Miliskevicius bt Kieran Taylor (Sep 1) 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "A good match just as it was in the last round, however this time Arnoldas had more energy and found a way to return whatever I threw at him. First set was a little strange with only one hold by Arnoldas and none by myself which is what ultimately decided the set. Second set was the opposite where we both held serves other than one where he broke my serve and again it decided the set. Thanks Arnoldas!"  -- Kieran
Reveal CommentLee Wadhams bt Jackie Callow (Sep 1) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Lovely meeting Jackie. We had some nice rallies and and some close games. "  -- Lee
Reveal CommentArnoldas Miliskevicius bt Antony Parselle (Aug 31) 3-6, 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Another good game with Arnoldas. We both started a little edgy but I managed to settle quicker and from 3-3 managed to play well to take the set. The other two were a different story. Although I was playing well my fitness let me down little. I was still battling but Arnoldas found some consistency and the long rallies and Arnoldas points building were difficult to keep up with he deservedly took both sets 6-1. I did manage to save 9 match points at the end but the final point did come inevitably in the end. Well played Arnoldas. Looking forward to the next battle! "  -- Antony
Reveal CommentJanis Trofimovs bt Antony Parselle (Aug 30) 6-3, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "First time i've played Janis and first game for a while so it was tough! It was a really good game with lots of winning shots and some good rallies and points battles but Janis was too good for me this time. Both sets got too 3-3. And both times Janis stronger tennis meant despite my best efforts he could then pull away and finish off the set. Looking forward to the next one. Well played Janis."  -- Antony
Reveal CommentSimon Reeves bt John Tiernan (Aug 30) 6-3, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Really enjoyable and competitive match of tennis. Many long rallies and close games. It was good that many points were won with winners rather than unforced errors. John and I were very evenly matched and a couple of net cords and fortuitous mishits helped me prevail on this occasion!"  -- Simon
Simon Reeves bt Darren Rideout (Aug 29) 6-0, 6-0
Reveal CommentMatthew Davis bt Kieran Taylor (Aug 28) 6-2, 4-6, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Great game on a sunny morning! Fir to say Kieran did not start too well, certainly compared to last time we played! After racing out to a 4-0 lead Kieran began to find some range and pulled a couple of games back before I dug in to secure the next 2 games and take the set 6-2. Into the second and this was much more competitive with Kieran saving a couple of break points when serving at 4-4 which ultimately would have left me serving for the match. Typically after missing those chances I played a sloppy service game and in turn lost the set 6-4. Into the decider and in this was two 15 minute games which were exhausting to say the least, both went my way and in the end was the deciding factor and with that I took the final set 6-3. Great game"  -- Matthew

Player Comments:

  • "In third set i lead 3:0 and on my serve 30:15 next point janis returned near to the line but it was out , and he decided stop playing because i didn’t give him a point. After 10 minutes discuss i say ok replay point or my point because i was closer and saw better. He went home. Very ‘dirty ‘ player and always if he is losing start lying, screaming and try to lose opponents control. I wait him 30 minutes but he didn’t come back. Very interesting what he will tell to the league. Never enjoy tennis when i play with him. Waiting league decision! -- Sally"  -- Janis
Reveal CommentGregory Heath bt John Tiernan (Aug 26) 4-6, 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Great match with John, very muggy conditions and I struggled to compete in the first set which was very close. A lot of games going to multiple deuces but the second set I felt more comfortable but still not finding a decent serve. John was pretty consistent and found some great shots from nowhere, nice touch with his dropshots, his energy levels were much better than mine but I dug in and was playing better towards the end of the match. Thanks John, looking forward to playing you again another time."  -- Gregory

Player Comments:

  • "Nice to get the first match of the league under my belt, good weather for it too! I started strongly in the first set and raced out to a 4-1 lead. The final few games of the set were much closer with me needing to save a couple of break points and missing a few break points of my own on Johns serve. Eventually I closed the set out 6-2. Into the next set and again I broke early to take a 3-1 lead however this included a mammoth game at 1-1 that had 11 deuces in! John started to play more consistent and began playing some good points. John managed to break back to make it 3-3 and then it remained on serve until it was 5-4 in favour of me. Whilst serving to stay in the match I managed to hit some good winners to close the game and match out!"  -- Matthew

Player Comments:

  • "Nice to get out early on a Saturday morning to play this match. Really enjoyable match playing John in his first outing in the league. We had some good rally’s and a few nice winners from both players. I certainly got the luck with a couple of shots hitting the net cord and dropping in. There were also a few drop shots hit by John that just fell short but had me scrambling and certainly would have made things closer had they dropped in. Enjoyable match and look forward to playing John again. "  -- Lee
