  • "First time opponent and last match of the round. Close battle with Ionut who has a decent topsin forehand and two handed backhand. I was on the back foot in the first set going 2-0 down. It was a good job i was hitting my first serve consistently as I pulled myself back into things at 3-3. I was then able to maintain the momentum to take the first set. The second started of similar finding myself 3-1 down before responding . At a crucial time of 4-4 and 15-40 down on my serve i managed to still win this game and go 5-4 up and then see the set out. Enjoyable match. "  -- Dean

  • "Decent battle with Kolio. The first set was of a high standard with some great winning shots. Both players also serving well. The second set was a tight affair and we both could not hold our service games for eight straight games. At a key time I managed to hold my serve and go 5-4 up. I was then able to see the finish line and take the next game/set Enjoyable match . See you next time."  -- Dean

The second set there was more straight forward with some more unforced errors. Thanks for the game. "  -- Dean

  • "Another tough game between me and Janis. Janis took the first set with the only one brake, when I was serving after the 7th game to stay in the set. In the second was no time for mistake and I took an early lead with 3/0 and kept the momentum to bring it to decider. Despite the fact I took an early brake for 2/0, somehow Janis manage to stabilise his game and in the same time I started to make constant unforced errors. Congratulations for the win. In this group everyone plays with consistency. Probably that is why is so interesting, because we all know each other and we recognising opponents game. See you soon Janis "  -- Koliochanev@yahoo.com

Player Comments:

  • "Another great tennis performance between me and Ionut. I would say really enjoyable match to be watched, because the level, the speed and the quality of shots was from both sides of the court. The match could go either way, because everyone was trying to stay close in the games, despite brakes we had in both sets. First set was really close and winning at the end was turning point, because that gave me confidence in the second set and I've managed to go up with the score with 5/2 and serving for the win, but even I was 40/0 after a great serving and wanted to finish in attractive way cost me the game, then at 5/3 Ionut saved a brilliant match point with a backhand winner and at 5/4 I have manage to close in straight sets. What a game today!"  -- Koliochanev@yahoo.com

Player Comments:

  • "Very competitive match vs Arnoldas with plenty of deuce games, long rallies and leader changes. I have been starting each of the sets with at least a break up however Arnoldas was able to turn the game into his side most of the times. In decider set I was leading 5-2 but couldn’t hold the serve and match went into tie break well deserved by both of us where I managed to convert my chances into the points to seal the victory. Thanks for a great game, Arnoldas and can’t wait for next battle in future rounds."  -- Stanislav

However from here the rallies remained short and Janis probably gave away to many points to make it more competitive. The momentum stayed with me and i went on a 12 game run. Cheers for the game."  -- Dean

  • "What a game between me and Stas. I won the toss in the beginning and I choose to receive, which was the turning point in the first set, because I manage to brake Stas serve. That was the only brake in the that set until the 3-2 in the second when Stas manage to brake my serve to achieve 4-2 but again I somehow hold my ground and broke back for 4-3. Then it was drama. I servived from 0-40 wining 6 points in a row. Then Stas manage to hold from 15-40 and again every service game up till the tie brake had brake points, but we both stayed strong. In the tie brake I took an early lead 3-0 and hold it all the way to finish with 7-3. Great stuff Stas. Looking forward for rematch. Good luck with the rest! "  -- Koliochanev@yahoo.com

Player Comments:

  • "Tough match coming back into the league. In summary. I thought my home clay court might suit my game however its slower nature helped Arnoldas keeping the ball in play. That being said i was also not serving well whereas his first serve percentage was high so the games remained close. The first set was tight up to 4-4 before i took the set. I could not get away in the second and it could have gone either way. I went 5-4 up with a match point that came and went. The next thing i was facing set points at 6-4 down in a tie break before i turned it around and took the match. Well played back to the hard courts maybe!! "  -- Dean

Player Comments:

  • "Another classic game between me and Arnoldas. We both started nervous and the result was 6 brakes in a row up until the 7th, when Arnoldas manage to take 4-3 lead. Set went into a deserved tie brake, when I had an early 3-0 lead and with the consistency of my first serve closed the first set with 7-3. In the second set I manage to transfer the momentum from the tie brake and broke Arnoldas service game even though we had to stop during the rally, because of the heavy rain. We swapped the courts after a short rain, because sun came back and one of the courts dried out quicker. Then like I said momentum was on my side and continued to win every game all the way until 5-0 when Arnoldas manage to brake one of my service games. Great match man"  -- Koliochanev@yahoo.com

  • "Congrats for the first win against me in the league, but that score wasn't surprise. Lately we had couple of friendly games and Erlens definitely raised his level. In the first set after an early brake I was 4-2 up, but that was my last game until the second set Erlens find himself with 3-0 up. This the moment i woke up and tried to come back with next 3 games. In the 7th game I couldn't use my 4 brake points and Erlens manage to hold his service game This was the turning point, where I lost my confidence again and lost in straight sets. Really deserved win. Looking forward to play again ;) "  -- Koliochanev@yahoo.com

Luckily for me I could use my advantage over Stas gained day earlier playing on the same court on very similar weather when Stas on the other side struggled to find his game and adapt to wind till 3/4 of the match was done. He managed to make some sort of the comeback at the end but unfortunately that was not enough. Unlucky Stas and good luck for you further on. "  -- Erlens

However I fell off once. :) On a first set, John put me off the balance by combo drop shots and lobs, also serve and volleys. Luckily, the momentum switched on my side playing decent shots from a baseline. John has couple of chances to break my serve later on but I was able to hold. John is a good bloke to chat with and I am looking forward to play matches with him in a future."  -- Alexander

  • "Slow conditions and a windy evening made this game a bit of a slog for both players though we did have lots of long and competitive rallies. First set I went 3-1 behind before reeling off 4 games in a row. A game later I found myself serving at 5-4. I then missed a set point and inevitably got broken back. I then broke again and served for the set again. This time at 40-15 2 more set points came and went. Thankfully I played a solid tie break and took the opening set. 2nd set was similar to the 1st where I was behind again, this time 4-1. Again I went on a run of 4 games won in a row to take a 5-4 lead. After missing 4 match points I had a feeling this may get away from me but thankfully I managed to get a 5th chance and managed to take it!"  -- Matthew

  • "Really fun game with John with lots of ebb and flow through the match. I was in control of the first set and hit a number of winners taking me to a 5-2 lead and then serving at 40-15, John dug in and forced the break and then held serve meaning I needed to serve out again at 5-4. At 40 love I hit a cross court winner to take the set at the 2nd time of asking. Johns level improved in the 2nd set and deservedly took it 6-2 with some consistent hitting. So into a decider and it pretty much was identical to the first set where I again built a 5-2 lead. Again I did not serve out at the first time of asking and then was a bit nervy trying to serve it out at the 2nd time of asking but I managed to do this and with it take the game and the match! In first set we has some good service games, then when was 3:2 , I was able to break Lee serve and win two more games in a row. Second set momentum switched but every time opponent rose his game, I caught up. The set end up with a tie break. Luckily I consolidated and finish the match in two sets. Lee is type of the players, with fast legs and ability to go for every shot. I worked so hard to succeed. Well played."  -- Alexander

  • "Nice evening for a game despite the odd gusts of wind which made for some interesting rallies! The first set score was certainly not a reflection of the set. There were countless long and exhausting rallies with most games going to deuce. The key in the set was I took my chances where Joe didn’t and that saw me over the line. Set 2 started in similar fashion where the opening game was very long with lots of fun rallies. I lost that game but then rallied to win the next 5 and lead 5-1. Joe made a slight comeback to 5-3 but I was able to serve it out at the 2nd time of asking. Thanks for the game Joe! "  -- Matthew

  • "Nice evening for a game of tennis! 1st set was about both of us adapting to the very fast conditions and I managed to settle the better. I hit quite a few winners during the set and held all my services games to take the set 6-2. 2nd set started the same and I raced into a 3-0 lead, again hitting several winners including a cross court back hand winner! The next game I had a couple of chances to make it 4-0 and didn’t take them which seemed to switch the momentum away from me as Lee then put together several good games and got himself back into contention in the set by then leading 4-3. The set then stayed with serve and looked like it was heading for a tie break before Lee played a loose game at 6-5 which gave me the set and match! "  -- Matthew
