Player Comments:

  • "Lovely to play Steve on such a beautiful afternoon. I started well to go up 5-0 early - I think Steve was distracted by the epic match on the court next to us between Craig and Jake! Steve fought well to win 3 games on the spin, before I stopped the slide and went on to take the win. Thanks Steve, see you in the next round."  -- Sandy
Reveal CommentJake Clark bt Craig Taylor (May 21) 6-4, 7-6 (7-3)

Player Comments:

  • "Fantastic match with Craig on a scorching morning at Beverley park. The match was as close as the score line suggests with a particular few games going to many deuces. In the end I clinched it winning more crucial points but it could have very easily gone the other way. I think we were both glad it didn’t go into a third set though! Cheers Craig and look forward to a rematch soon. "  -- Jake

  • "Always good to play Steve. The first set was a good battle with some great rallies but I managed to take the advantage and close out the set. The second set Stephen upped his level and went 1-4 up before I regained composure and rallied back to take the second 6-4, our first match yet that didn’t go to three sets but I think i speak for both of us when I say we were both relieved to finish as the heat was immense! • "Good to play Peter again. He started well to go up 4-2, but I managed to come back and take the first set 6-4, then keep my nose in front in the second set. There was actually only 1 hold of serve between that 4-2 scoreline and the end of the entire match. Thanks Peter, hope to play you again soon."  -- Sandy

Player Comments:

  • "Great game could’ve gone either way - some of the longest deuces I’ve ever played. Peter raced into a 5-1 lead, I was able to peg it back to lead 6-5 and eventually take the first set in the tiebreak. Second set I had led 4-0 before Peter brought it back to 5-3, I was just able to win the important points at the end after long service games again. Cheers and good luck for your remaining games. "  -- Dan

In the second set, no one wanted to win on their serve until Steve took the lead at 5-4. In the third set I just had a bit more energy and was able to be a bit more consistent. Great match!"  -- Simon

These 2 sets were so close it took 2 hours so the match had to be finished off on a different day. We both found it difficult to get back into it when we resumed but I just managed to edge it. Reveal CommentVishwa Kumba bt Craig Taylor (Apr 10) 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4)

Player Comments:

  • "I won the first set easily. I was leading 3-0 in the second set but Craig came back strongly, winning 6 games in a row and clinching the second set. We reached 6-6 games and tiredness took over for both the players in the final set. A couple of close line calls which Craig kindly agreed to replay won me the necessary points and also 2 double faults in the final set tie break pushed the match in my favour. I did struggle with some of Craig's tricky low topspin/backspin slices but it was an enjoyable match for both of us in the end."  -- Vishwa

In the second set I broke Jake in the first game and was able to serve well enough to not let my early lead slip to take the set 6-2. Good luck with the rest of your matches. "  -- Simon

The match was closer than the score suggests with plenty of deuce games mixed in amongst some good rallies and tight points. Player Comments:

  • "Despite a cold Good Friday morning we managed to play some great competitive points. Alan took an early lead in the first set, quickly managing to race to 4 -0 through some steady play and a few close unforced errors . Mick came back to win his serve to make it 4-1. Alan closed out the set by winning the next two games. Mick looked like he had warmed up , starting the second set by again winning his service game. It looked like he was going to kick on but couldn't convert some game points into wins. Alan took the next 6 games, closing out the win with the only ace of the match. It was a pleasure to meet Mick for the first time and play enjoyable tennis in a friendly spirit." -- Alan
