125 matches were played and more than two thirds of bonus prizes earned in an excellent Autumn round in Norwich. The numerous lovely comments highlight not only the competitiveness of the league but also it's fantastic friendly nature. Thanks for taking part everyone and we look forward to seeing you next time for more tennis throughout the winter.

Group Summary:

Tomi showed all the experience of a former champ, playing more matches than anyone else and scheduling well to leave his quest to retain the group one crown all in his own hands. This proved to be a winning formula as he added five victories to his total to pull clear in top spot. Luke came through "some really good rallies" and "lots of deuce games" to defeat Tomi in straight sets, and with wins in his other three matches too he puts himself in the mix for second. Sam finished level with Luke, but when bonus points are removed it is Luke who takes the runner up spot.

Player Comments:

  • "This was a marathon match played over 2.5 hours and could not have been closer. Every tactic that could be played was attempted, making it very much a cat and mouse affair. It came down to who would blink first! Many games went to deuce. The 3rd game in the last set went to around 15 of the buggars! and ended up being a 15 minute game all on its own. We certainly managed to get our 10,000 steps in as well. In the end it could have gone either way. Thanks fot the match Paul."  -- Andy

Group Summary:

John and Robert matched each other stride for stride to finish level at the top of group seven. Fortunately we did see the two battle it out on court and John made the most of Rob's rustiness at the start of the round to emerge victorious and become the new champ - well played both. Kudos to Jack and Cathy too for playing all seven matches and bagging a bonus prize.

  • "Beautiful sunny autumn day, though the sun was low and was causing problems at one end of the court. It was a tight match with a couple of long deuces. In the second set, Mary went 4-2 up and serving. Luckily I started to find my rhythm and break Mary's serve to break back and again to go a break up and win the second set. It was great to play you again Mary and I wish you all the best with your remaining matches."  -- Jack

Reveal CommentVictoria Chubb bt Cathy Geary (Oct 13) 7-5, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "The most challenging conditions I have ever played in! Perfect temperature and a beautiful autumnal day but, by God, the match was played in almost farcical condtions due to a wild wind swirling everywhere and persistently throughout the entire match. Victoria led the first set 5-1 with her patience dwindling allowing Claire to claw the first set back to 5-5. To her credit claire handled the very very challenging conditions far better than me. I broke again to lead 6-5 and literally, while bouncing the ball to serve for the first set, found myself thinking what would Nadal do right now!? I held serve to win 7-5. After a scrappy 2nd set I won 6-3. Lovely to meet Claire whose dedication to the game means she travels in from Dereham! "  -- Victoria
