What a fantastic round! 81% of matches played which for a big league is fantastic - nearly 150 matches! Thank you all for your commitment and hard work. Judging by the commentaries, it was a lot of fun! Here's to next round of one of the top performing leagues in the country.
Group Summary:
All but four or the matches were played in this excellent top group, a group which had so many highlights. One of them was definitely the match between this round Group One champ, Tomi and winner last time, Daniel. "High level hitting, small margins," said Tomi about this three-set thriller and we can well believe him. Truth be told though, Tomi made an good job of making sure the points margin between him and second placed Luke was as wide as possible - 16 plays 9. Bonus points helped of course but this is spectacular league play. Well done to the whole group.

Group Summary:
A very efficient round from front-runner Joseph who played all his matches save one and won them all in straight sets. With a "nothing to see here" nonchalance, Joseph didn't leave us commentaries but we bet these were fun encounters. Robert also had a great run, losing only to Joseph, to nick the silver from Alan who had drawn level on points. Again a huge proportion of matches played and that always make for a great contest.

Kevin Robinson bt Patrick Crotty (May 16) 3-6, 6-4, 6-1Group Summary:
Lots of players returning to the league after a break in this group, and another group with a strong front runner. Though if you look at the matches, Mark had a real fight on his hands for at least some of the wins; the matches with Ian and Edgardo for example went the distance! But Mark was not on any serious danger of losing his grip on the group and in the end won it undefeated. It was the Richard and Richard show for silver when both ended up on eleven points. It's decided by there head-to-head which means Richard Taylor just edges it. Excellent tennis everyone and thanks for all the commentaries.

If at all possible, players should be careful about conceding walkovers - we really do want the tennis to do the talking! (Walkovers are only granted where a match has been firmly set up but cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.) But even though there was a run of them toward the end of the round it probbaly didn't overly affect who won the group. With a win against runner-up Steven already in the bag, Chis was well on course for the group win. Well done Chris and runner up Steven and thanks to everyone who got on court.

Newcomer to the league, Nicholas, has a name (Goodwin) that does what it says on the tin! This round he notched up five "good wins" his only problem was that so did Ryan! Importantly too, Ryan actually beat Nicholas in their head-to-head. So how did Nicholas edge ahead in the points race to claim the group win? Crucially, by taking a set off Ryan, Nicholas added one extra point to his total! Adding to the fun of this excellent group Mark took the bronze with three nice wins of his own. Once again some lovely commentaries brought the matches to life.

Player Comments:
- "A closely-fought tie and very enjoyable between two players each with a well-established losing habit recently. The initiative switched several times during the game and the final result could easily have gone either way. Tom says he has been 'choking' when he's had the chance to close out a set - and, sure enough, he lost the first set having led 4-3. He hammered me to take the second set to break that particular hoodoo. Tom had kept his mate waiting in the pub for ages, which I'm sure affected his concentration in the final games; I got lucky there. Plenty of errors - Tom over-hit several forehands and I nearly wore out the net-tape with multiple shots aimed 'just too low' - but some terrific rallies too. " -- Harry

Player Comments:
- "An enjoyable game with Martin on a long summer evening with a good number of entertaining rallies interspersed amongst the usual errors on both sides. Early on we kept things even by taking it in turns to surrender the initiative until, courtesy of some fortuitous lobs, I managed to edge the first set 6-3 The second set was also close right through until the tie-break, the only one-sided period of the match. After four straight defeats it felt good to get 'the albatross from round my neck'! Thanks Martin, for another good match." -- Harry

Group Summary:
This group was so tight that it all came down to a point won in match lost for Terry. Runner-up Jack beat Terry in their head-to-head, but that three set loss and the point that came with it was just enough to edge ahead of his rival. Both ended up with four wins and both go their bonus points so it really couldn't have been much tighter! The race for third place was also hotly disputed but by beating Andrew, Julie just nabs it. Lovely group as evidenced once again by the write ups.

Despite the score, 5 deuce games in the first set means it was tighter than it looks. - "It was a lovely morning for a tennis match, a bit windy but nothing major. The first set I started well and hit some good shots. I carried that for the rest of the set to win it 6-3. The second set was a different story as Terry started to find these forehand winners and I couldn’t reply to them as I wasn’t hitting the shots that I was in the first set. Final set was tight and got to 4-4 then I held on to my serve to make it 4-5 and it got to deuce in the next game which was the norm in this match and I broke Terry’s serve to win the match. Thanks for a good competitive match Terry." -- Jack
Player Comments:
- "That was tough! We played on a very warm afternoon and Jack is over half my age, covers all the court quickly and plays the angles well. First set was very close. Jack opened up a 5-3 lead which I clawed back to 6-6 before finding my serve to take the tie break 7-2. Second set went with serve to 2-2 but finally finding my first serve helped me take the set. Jack deserved at least a set for a fighting performance, great baseline play and some good close rallies. " -- Andrew

- "Gorgeous sunny evening at Eaton Park was perfect for tennis and so great to see all courts full. The first set was a see-saw match played in great spirit with both of us scrapping to win every point and both breaking and retaining serves. At 4-5 I started to edge enough points to take the set 7-5. The second set was far more one sided at 6-0 although there were close games and Liz made me fight as the 8 match points confirm. Tennis is supposed to be fun and Liz helps that! Thanks for the match. " -- Andrew
